Giant Swallowtail

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
~Irish Blessing

I took several photos of this fluttering-a-mile-a-minute Giant Swallowtail just a few days ago.  I was trying to get a spread wing shot, but he flew off before I could capture a very good one.  This one is the best of the bunch, isn't he handsome?

I don't have much to say other than I've been under the weather since late Sunday night.  Nothing bad, just a virus that makes you think you'll never feel good ever again.  Don't ya hate when that happens?  I certainly do!  But I'm getting better and will try to get a better post up next time.  Hope you all are well and enjoying beautiful fall weather this week.  I don't say this often enough, but Thank You so much for all of your nice comments here at TFD!  See you soon.
Until next time...

  6. your ST is a beautiful specimen. we often talk about how fast they can fly. we have many in our yard and when there are two or 3 together, they can MOVE. they are hard to capture and you did a fantastic job with this one. flying flower... hope you are back to well soon.

  7. Awww, I hate to think of your being under the weather. Stay low, eat well, take care of yourself and get some echinacea. John and I swear by that stuff. That and Thieves.

Oh my goodness! That photo is amazing. You have the patience of Job to capture it.

  11. This is a beautiful post. I know how difficult nature shot can be. I treid all summer to get those dang hummingbirds and never got a good one.

That's good Irish prayer to remember.

  14. I am a butterfly nut & love your picture. Maybe because of the extremely hot, dry summer, but I never did see very many butterflys in my garden this year. I missed them!

Hope you feel better soon. The 'flu bug is going around here & I am trying to keep away from it!

    Happy fall!

  16. You will try to get a better post next time?? But what could be better than this? This is awesome!!! I bet you are down in the dumps because you are sick, I'm sorry you're not feeling well!! The butterfly has the sun shining on his wings and is beautiful, especially with the purple flower. It is hard to snap a fluttering butterfly!
