Since I've been under the weather off and on since last Tuesday and my brain still isn't firing on all cylinders with all the coughing that has shaken things up, I'm going to repeat a post that I used last year in October. I have several new readers who may not have seen that post.
I did take time to play with a different photo of the old vacant (haunted?) house that I took last year and used water painting to give it a bit of a different look. The following is a true story about strange happenings in our home that I posted about last year:
Since Halloween is right around the corner and even tho I'm really not all that into Halloween, I still thought this might be a good time to share the story of some unexplained happenings here in my own house. This may turn out to be rather long. Hope you stick with me and let me know what you think! I saved the strangest story for the end.
In recent years, we've been experiencing some strange sounds and happenings. One night while I was at work and my daughter and husband were downstairs....she was at her computer desk and he was watching television. They both heard what sounded like someone stepping down off of a chair, then scooted the chair across the upstairs bathroom floor. Then after that they heard a door shut. Both of them ran up the stairs to see what was going on, but saw nothing out of place.
Another time, while they were downstairs, they heard what sounded like someone walking down the hall. Thinking I might have gotten home early, they came up the stairs to see me...but it wasn't me! I was still at work.
Yet another time, my daughter was sitting in her computer chair at the desk and a cool breeze went by behind her and she caught a whiff of a floral perfume.
Both my children have heard music in the house, when there wasn't a tv on or music playing. My son even walked around the house trying to determine where it was coming from....didn't find anything. The neighbors were quiet, so it wasn't them...and their houses aren't real close to ours.
I've heard loud sounds in the bedroom. Sometimes it sounds like a chain or something is sliding down the wall. That is about the only way I know to describe it.
One night there was a loud crash, and the cat took off running. Another time, she got spooked and her fur stood on end with her tail getting big. There was nothing to be seen.
I think the strangest happening of all is the day I was getting ready for work. I had showered and had opened my bottle of foundation preparing to put on my makeup. Nature was calling, so I sat down the bottle of foundation and went around the corner...there is a half wall between the vanity and toilet...when I finished and went back to the sink to wash my hands, I noticed that there were drops of makeup on the floor. Looking closer, I noticed that these drops were about the size of a nickel and were almost perfectly spaced in a row leading back to the wall between two closet doors opposite the vanity. I had a plant stand with a plant next to the wall between the two doors...our bathroom is rather large...and there were some drops on the leaves, too. Well, I had to go to work so in my haste I cleaned up the mess and finished getting ready and didn't think to take photos. I was certainly very puzzled as to how that happened. But when I got home and told my family, I showed them the drops still on the plant and a few had ended up veering off in another direction on the floor that I had overlooked while cleaning up the mess, so they did believe me! I am wondering to this day how that happened. My hubby said I must have shaken the bottle. No, I didn't and even if I had I would have had to have thrown the stuff over my shoulder, because the drops were directly behind where I was standing. And how would they have ended up so perfectly matched in size and evenly spaced? I didn't count the drops, but there were quite a few! I can't think of an explanation for this. I didn't shake the bottle, the bottle was unopened and just where I left it. Strange!!!
Okay, you probably think I've really lost it! But all of these things have really happened. I don't really believe in ghosts, but I have no explanation for any of the many strange sounds and happenings we've experienced.
How about you? Have any strange goings on in your house? If so, please share! I wish someone could tell me how my foundation ended up in perfect drops on the floor!! Very, very strange.....
I am feeling better than I did last week, but am having a hard time shaking this cough. I hope you have escaped the various bugs going around and have a good week!
One more thing...the strange happenings have really slacked off since I wrote about them last year!
Until next time...
Wow! This looks like my childhood "haunted house" ... the house that was left after the developer bought the farm and put 150 houses on the land across the street from it, and before the land behind it was sold for an industrial park. The house stood for years and the bravest of us would sneak in ... some wild wallpaper had been used in that place, I'll tell you! Boy this takes me back!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm.... I'm glad they have slacked off!! I might be running for the hills, so to say!! Yikes!!! Glad you are starting to feel better!! Have a wonderful week. blessings ~ Tanna
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I hope that you are feeling a lot better.
ReplyDeleteSecond of all, that old house looks as if it has possibilities if a multi-millionaire should come along.
Thirdly, I do believe your stories. We had such odd things happening at my former home that we called in our pastor. I do not believe in ghosts; I believe in something more sinister.
i have never had strange things in my own house, but as a child my aunt had the sound of someone clomping up and down the stairs to the bedrooms. not every night just sometimes.
ReplyDeletesorry you are still not up to par. I love the house and the photo and also the edit. now if you were living in this house those things would be normal. is your house old? things that go bump in the nigh are usually in very old homes.
i do believe in ghosts, spirits, souls, whatever you want to call it. i'm glad your lady spirit is friendly and relatively non-intrusive! :) thanks for resharing this!
ReplyDeleteThat would scare me to death! It doesn't sound threatening though...you need Ghostbusters!
ReplyDeleteSo, the house is now vacant & you live somewhere else? But, you still own the house?
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for ghost stories! I believe you & no, I don't think you've lost it at all... a lot of people don't like talking about these things, but one can't ignore the fact that strange things like what you've experienced have happened for years & years... There has to be something to it, simple as that!
Sounds like there's some residual effects going on with the noises you hear around the house, which means if there IS such a thing as ghosts, then they're there, but they don't know it... they're carrying on as if they're still living their lives & would do it whether anyone was in the home or not. But, the make-up deal makes me think there's an intelligent ghost in the house & is trying to get your attention, but hasn't gotten to the point of why, yet. Nobody has been hurt, so keep that in mind when in the house...
I know this all sounds crazy, but I've picked up info over the years on these things & want to help...
I've lived in my house, now, for 3 yrs. A bit after moving in, I was in the bathroom in the middle of the house & heard what sounded like a bowling ball drop on the kitchen floor! =0 I ran into the kitchen & fully expected to see the tiles crumbled & something sitting there like a bowling ball, but nothing was there or out of place... My cats were in the bathroom w/ me, so it wasn't them, either.
I also heard something that sounded like it fell off the shelf in the laundry room one evening, but I found nothing out of place, then, either.
I pray to God that nothing ever materializes in front of me & I know that surely He didn't make it possible for me buy this home only to be scared in it by a ghost...
I may watch 'Ghost Hunters' on TV, but that doesn't mean I want to actually see them w/ my own eyes, esp in my own home! =0
Wow Cheryl...you gave me goosebumps with your story! I do believe in ghosts. From time to time I can smell smoke, like someone is smoking next to me. This only happens in my home and no one else smells it. My grandfather, was a smoker and a farmer, died from Melanoma. He was layed to rest September 29, 1995 and my son was born on June 29, 1996...9 months later. And just before my grandfather passed I flew up to NC to see him. He was teasing me about having children. He told me that hubby and I should have 8 just like he and my grandma did. We laughed and I told him probably not 8 and it would be awhile before I had any. He must have picked up on something about me because my son was born a little over 9 months later. My hubby believes it is my granfather when I smell the smoke. I don't know what to think. Anyway, I hope you get over that bug you have. I'll have to keep checking in today to read everyone else's comments. :) Love that photo!
ReplyDeleteTricia: The vacant house in the photo is not ours. It resides on a country road not too many miles from where we live. I took the picture one day last year when my daughter and I were driving by. I thought it was spooky looking and just fit my story! Sorry, I should have said that at the beginning of this post, I think I did in my post last year but didn't copy that part. Our house we live in now is a ranch-style built around 1960 or so. I'm happy the strangest noises have finally stopped! Oddly enough, I was never really afraid of them and I'm one to hate scary movies!
ReplyDeleteIf the strange things went away after you first posted this, let's hope they don't COME back now! It is strange and I've never experienced anything like this, thankfully!
ReplyDeleteSorry you're still not feeling good. Hope today brings relief to your cough!
I was kind of worried at first when I saw the house - gosh weird stuff for sure and I have no idea how any of it happened. I just know that I am glad it has lessened for you this year.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping you feel better too!
You have me scared! lol
Sandie
Sorry you have not been well lately Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteI love this intriguing old house and would enjoy exploring the inside.
Spooky story but great for Halloween :D
be Well and Happy,
Pam
Spooky Cheryl! I think I remember this from last year because I remember Stormy's reaction. I hate hearing that you are feeling crummy and hope you shake that cough very soon. We have some rumbly sounds of thunder right now and I am hoping we see some rain, we need it. We were in Jeff today and got poured on the whole time we were there. Still loving your photo editing :)
ReplyDeleteWe have never had any strange things happen in our homes. I think I would scream like a little school girl!
I am so glad you re-posted this, because I am a new follower and have not read it before! So this is your house? It is beautiful, how old is it? I would guess it has a whole lot of history! We have quite a few houses like this in our neighborhood, some of the ones that were here in the Civil War are purported to be haunted.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you re-posted this! Love the picture of the old (haunted) house!
ReplyDeleteMy friend lives in a home they built less than 25 years ago, but they have had some really strange, unexplained things happen there.
I'll be sharing some stories in the next couple of weeks about the OLD house my mom grew up in.
Glad you're feeling better!
Hugs
ReplyDeleteAlways love stopping by your blog :]
Hi Cheryl!
ReplyDeleteLoved that post then, love it now! I'm always up for a good haunted ghost story! We don't have too many old homes that survive our harsh winters here, so it's fun to see yours!
I have had so many strange, maybe even spooky things happen to me in my lifetime - kind of creeps me out sometimes!
Hugs,
Barb
I am a new follower and have not read it before, this is your house, It is really very beautiful, looking very old. I would guess it has a whole lot of history!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI do hope you are feeling better and are on the mend.
I remember this post from last year,it was and still is intriguing.I love the the photo of the old house, what a story it could tell of it's history.
Wishing you well,
Carolyn
I don't know how you do it. The chains on the wall would be a bit much for me. My very first apartment was a basement apartment and I was so tired of how freaked out my cat was all the time that I had to move.
ReplyDeleteWhat an elegant looking old house-too bad no one lives there to keep it up-too expensive maybe.
ReplyDeleteHope you are much better now.
What an amazing old house! Makes me want to save it... right now!
ReplyDeleteSorry about you feeling yucky. Hope you feel much better soon!
Since the strange happenings have eased up, maybe your ghost doesn't like you telling stories about it. Those are amazing stories - especially the last one.
ReplyDeleteI hope you continue getting better. Not feeling well is definitely sucky!
Deanna
I've always wanted my very own ghost - not the scary poltergeist kind but the kind like those found in old England estates. If you find one that isn't demented, hang on to him!
ReplyDeleteWell, if you're going to have a resident ghost, glad it's one that likes pretty makeup! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... goosebumps!! Hope things remain less interesting at your place ;) There are some old tales about our house, but I think they're mostly urban legend. I hope!! -Tammy p.s. I love that picture of the old house!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Really enjoyed this one.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is or was a beautiful old home!
ReplyDeleteNever had any strange things happen to me, but to a friend of my mom's. and she was the most sane person you ever saw.
Me too. I'm glad you posted this. I still missed it and had to go back and find it. What an impressive lady that house is. Do you have any information about it? Like when it was built? It sure fit your stories.
ReplyDeleteI'm a believer too, but I don't know what I would do having these things happen to me that you've encountered. The make up thing is very weird.
Back in the day, when Ouiji Boards were popular, my girlfriends and I would play with them for hours. The dang thing would move with only me touching it. I stopped that scarey stuff and never allowed them in the house when my daughters wanted one.
Keep us informed.
