Are you ever tempted to chuck your blog during the spring and summer months?
I honestly think about it when I'm really busy. Then a very hot day comes along and I don't want to be outside or even work inside with the a/c on and I'll find myself back in blogland. I just know I might miss something really interesting. Now, I can take short breaks, but for several months? I don't think so. So, I'll keep
a Great Blue Heron, who is a frequent visitor, walking toward the pond. This photo was taken a few days ago. The grass is getting more brown with each passing day without rain. You might see the drier, more brown grass, in the first photo, behind the daylilies where the large hay bale is in our pasture near the pond.
My bluebirds are still around. I had wondered where they were when I didn't see them for a few days. I suspect the increasing kitty population has had something to do with their increasingly infrequent visits.
Speaking of kittens, I was asked yesterday about where they sleep. We have a large patio nearly the length of our house in back and at one end of the patio is a small storage building. We started leaving the door slightly ajar when the mama kitty started hanging around and it was cold outside. She was a feral cat, but quickly became used to us and is now very friendly. Now, we're working on taming the kittens...the black is coming around, the gray is very wild!
Until next time...
i would miss you if you disappeared! one of my blogging pals took the whole dang summer off! i can't imagine going away / shutting off like that! :)
ReplyDeleteYour title today covers 2 of my favorite things. Oh.my.goodness ... that heron photo is amazing and the bluebird is gorgeous. I hope you don't ever chuck your blog as I'd miss you. Bloggy breaks, however, I think are necessary from time to time.
ReplyDeleteHope you get some rain soon.
I definitely sit at the computer more in the winter months! But I love to blog and check my favs when I take a break from the busyness of summer time!
ReplyDeleteI'm guilty of doing just that - I get so busy sometimes that I feel I can't do a blog justice - and I just took an unplanned two-week hiatus. Thanks for the little prod. I'll try to catch up myself, as I wouldn't want you to be gone too long.
ReplyDeleteYes ..
ReplyDeleteDuring the warm months, we soak up the days and work on the projects and the 'summer bucket list'; so usually, I'm not inside the house, or spending time on the computer.
Love the pictures of the birds... quite beautiful.
Have a wonderful, sunny day!
Smiles :)
Kerin
Oh, don't stay away too long! We enjoy your lovely posts. Love that blue heron; one of my favs!
ReplyDeleteOh, Cheryl, do you read Betsy's blog, My Five Men. Her tales of feral cats are humorous and remind me of yours!! hee hee. I do think of chucking my blog some days... it is so hard to keep up sometimes, but I really would miss the people I have come to love through their blogs. So let's keep slogging!! ;) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeletei know what you mean about the rain... and i've been wanting to chuck my blog, lately, too... not sure what i'll do if i have anymore problems w/ it. =0
ReplyDeleteLovely photos- I'm glad you aren't going to take an extended vacation!
ReplyDeleteI took a break when hubby was in Afghanistan I found it difficult to write and then when he came home I had a hard time putting into words how happy I was and was only able to post every now and then. BUT last September the bug hit me again and I've been back ever since. Yes, I would miss your beautiful pictures! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteBlogging is the perfect foul weather activity. This spring it has been hard to come inside to blog. Come summer and 100+temps, I will be computer bound.
ReplyDeleteHowever, keep your toes wet for our sake as well as yours. Scaling back is OK, going away is not.
Gorgeous lilies...
ReplyDeleteI do know what you mean...I remember when I first started my blog...I didn't want to miss a single day...
Either I have really become a BUSY lady, or I'm just not as dedicated as I use to be...
hugs
That blue heron takes my breath away. LOVE it. With all the health issues facing my daughter and I have been cutting my blogging back a little, including commenting. But I can not give it up. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour bird pictures are just awesome!!!! And really, what would we do without our blogging in the winter?
ReplyDeleteYour birds and daylilies are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't want to stop blogging, but I only average a couple of posts each week anyway. Between job and family and real life I don't have time to do one every day like some people do. I try to keep blogging a fun thing, not a required thing.
It really does become difficult to blog in the summertime. I can't decide whether I am in a slump or just too busy! I've made up my mind to at least make the blog rounds this evening. Maybe even a post... who knows!
ReplyDeleteYour birdie pictures are always awesome!
I think you already saw where I have been about blogged out the last few weeks. But I'm not quite ready to give it up either...just not a priority right now.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful. Our "ditch lilies" have been in full bloom around here but I don't have any. I'm tempted to take a shovel & go on a little road trip! ; )
Our weather has cooled down some so I have been weed pulling. But I hear the heat is on it's way!
Hot here, and the grass is already going dormant. The heron's picture is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI have never thought about giving up blogging--but I do feel guilty when I'm so busy this time of year and can't visit others' blogs. There just are not enough hours in the day ---and I truly cannot sit here at the computer all day and all night... Oh Well!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos... Our Bluebird babies are still doing fine. Tonight a Bluejay came around ---and that Bluebird didn't want him anywhere near the nestbox... The Bluebird kept dive-bombing the Jay.... Crazy birds!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
Oh I've thought of it, but I can't seem to stay away from blogging. When my daughter and her two children get here from Virginia for the summer, I may not be on very much, but I won't be able to stay away for very long. The kittens are darling.
ReplyDeleteI love all your wonderful photos and your words - if you do go away for the summer - please let me know. Sandie
ReplyDeleteFeral cats.....just you wait. We were once in that position and couldn't catch them to take them to the vet. I am not sure how many we have at present but it is way too many!
ReplyDeleteThe blue heron picture is spectacular. I love the curly side feathers.
if i stop blogging you will know I am either very ill or deceased. glad to hear the kitties have a home. the blue bird is awesome
ReplyDeleteLOVE your bluebird and heron shot...it is just too bad cats eat birds. But I like my cats, and just have to deal with it. I planted new flowers and though I want the hummingbirds too come, I don't want them at the same time...all because of just one of my cats, plus some others in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteWe have farrels cats around here too and some of them have kittens over and over..all are terribly wild. How they eat is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteHow good of you to provide a place for her to feel safe. I think the tom cats around here kill off some of the kittens.
Your photo's are wonderful! Thank you for your sweet comment on my post! :)
Hahahah.... I just told another blogger that I am going to slow down on my blog so I can enjoy the summer. I ain't getting any youger and blogging takes up a lot of time.
ReplyDeleteLove, love your daylilies and birds.
ReplyDeleteI so understand slowing down to enjoy summer. It seems there is always so much to enjoy outdoors.
I enjoy your blog however, and hope you post at least once in a while!
Carolyn
I sometimes feel as you do in the summer especially when the weather is nice but I would miss too much. You got some great bird photos. I love the bluebird one. They are so pretty. Our grass is very green due to the rainy weather we've been having. It may get a bit brown in August then greens up again after that. Enjoy the weekend.

Oh, dont chuck it, just take a break. I don't consider chucking it, but I haven't had time lately to keep up with returning comments. I remind myself that no one is making me do it every day. It's a self imposed duty.
ReplyDeleteOh, those kittens are so cute. My daughter has four cats. They all found her, luckily she has a vet friend who treats them for free.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that you have the Great Blue Heron in Missouri. That is wonderful. We have them here as well and the bluebirds. If we visit the lagoons in the early morning or early evening we can see alligators lounging. Bob has been seeing a fox about 6:30 am each morning. He has been around for at least a couple of months. I haven't seen him, cuz I am still sleeping.
Have a great weekend, xo Ginger

ReplyDeleteblogging brings me too much joy, i don't think i will ever stop.
ReplyDeleteyour images are gorgeous today, i especially love the heron shot. those babies are hard to get.
and the second one, the orange daylily, very pretty!!
Cheryl, blogging is a way to connect with folks and while I do know many folks tame time away, I never have felt like doing that. It seems there's always something to post about. My problem sometimes is too much to say and too little time. Enjoyed the kitties in yesterday's post.
ReplyDeleteI often am evaluating if i am on the computer too much. I don't want to quit because I love teadng posts. I consider you a friend and it is fun to get to know you and others. Are you looking at drought conditions. Weather has been very strange here. I will pray for some rain for us all. I love the pictures you post; the birds are so beautiful. Have fun wth he kittens.
ReplyDeleteFirst: thank you so much for visiting and commenting: I appreciate that!
ReplyDeleteWell,...I do understand what you fell: right now I'm so busy....that I am not blogging normally. But I would miss your photos.... please don't stop blogging!Okay?
....
Your photos are brilliant...and...I love cats!
I have 2 dogs...but mom has 5 cats - love them.

Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteDoing some catchup on my visiting as I have been absent this week. I too have thought from time to time about taking a break during the spring and summer, but like you it wouldn't last, ~smile~, so for now I will stroll along as I find the time. Sunday afternoons seem to fit best for me, but I am realizing as the heat and humidity is creeping in here in the south, that I might be a little more present, which works fine for me. ~grin~
Your photography skills always amaze me, and your new kittens are adorable, makes me want to reach out and hug them.
Thanks for sharing, enjoy your day,
Hugs,
Sue

ReplyDeleteI would really miss your photos if you didn't post!
And it's so easy to miss what's happening even after a few days.
I know because I've been so busy lately myself.
Love that blue heron!
Hello Cheryl....I find myself in the same situation. But, I won't give it up. Sometimes I just can't find the time to respond to the comments....I'm thinking my blogging friends understand!
