A nice surprise

I took my aunt to our nearest big city, Columbia, yesterday.  We ate Chinese food for lunch and then did a bit of shopping.  We ended up at a digital photography studio where she wanted to get copies of a charcoal drawing.  To my surprise, one of the 16 X 24 copies was a gift to me!  This beautiful drawing was done around 1900, give or take a few years, by her husband's (my uncle) grandmother.  She was quite an artist in her day.  After she got married, I'm told she just quit drawing and painting.  She left some beautiful pieces behind and many relatives are enjoying her artistic endeavors today.

The white streak you see in the above left corner and other strange markings on the poster are from the plastic sleeve the poster was put in.

I didn't get much commenting done yesterday.  It was a long day and when I got home, I sat down in the recliner with my laptop and started reading blogs and....fell asleep!    I'll try to get caught up on what everyone's been up to soon, I've got to clean house today.   Enjoy your Friday and have a great weekend!

Until next time...

  3. That is a very nice surprise. It seems such a shame when someone with so much talent stops doing their artwork. At the same time, it's nice that all these years later her beautiful work is still being enjoyed by family (and blog friends :).
How well I understand the falling asleep in the recliner scenario. LOL.

  11. Oh what a lovely charcoal drawing. And a lovely story to go with it.

Oh isn't it sad, that she had to quit her artistic endeavors! But life was a lot more tough, at the turn of the century. Much to do, and little free time. -sigh-

Hope all you lucky relatives, who own her work, will cherish it.. You will. Hope they all do. :-)

    Gentle hugs,
    "Auntie"

  14. How wonderful! Love the picture. She really did have a lot of talent. It is a shame she wasn't able to continue after she had a family. But I can only imagine how difficult it would have been to make it through each day in the 1900's.

Hope you got some much needed rest!
