Cat vs Robin...Who Will Win?

On one of our warm afternoons, I went out on the patio and sat awhile
just soaking up the beautiful sunshine.  Of course, I had my camera
with me!  Mr. Robin was the only bird in the backyard at the time.

Sissy, who had come outside with me, also spied Mr. Robin and
proceeded to stalk him.  I wasn't too worried at this point because
they were quite a distance apart.

But, as Sissy started closing the gap, I began to get a little worried.
I thought surely Mr. Robin would see the cat and fly away!

Well, I couldn't sit by and watch one of my feathered friends get brought down by a feline stalker, so I stood up and clapped my hands loudly and scared the robin away.  Poor Sissy.  She sat and stared at the spot where the robin was for ever so long.  She was just certain she would have a nice fat robin for dinner.
But, she had to settle for Meow Mix instead!

Until next time...

  5. These are great captures! I'm glad you were there to supervise Sissy though. Your lawn looks nice and green. Ours is slowly coming. Enjoy the day!

  6. Yay!!!! Good for you Cheryl.....The song bird population is sadly down because of outdoor cats, know that`s what they do but killing just for fun, not good..... Cats do get feed at home....just saying, I am a bird lover and cat but prefer to leave the cats inside for that reason, Blessings Francine.

  7. The kitties are doing what comes natural. However, they're clearly not hungry -- because we feed them so well.

  8. Wheeeeeewwwww... Thank you. I didn't want you to be one of those let-nature-go-on-its-merry-way people!

    Yish...

I'd have scared the bird, tooooo. In fact, I have been known to chase hawks away, back-in-the-day, when I could easily do such a maneuver. ,-)

  10. pretty little robin and i am glad you stopped that stalker. I do this for birds and lizards and frogs in our yard. Jake is a hunter, and will take down whatever he finds in his yard. great shots of the stalker.

  11. Good Morning Cheryl, Sissy makes such a cute stalker, and I am glad you came to Mr. Robin's rescue. I love your pictures. Our yard is starting to green up and I am trying to decide if I am going to try to cut it myself or have it done. Have a wonderful day. Enjoy your sunshine. Hugs and Prayers from Your NW Missouri Friend.

  15. Goodness---that kitty may have captured that Robin.. What was the Robin thinking --or not thinking???? Yipes!!!! Glad you clapped your hands...

My dog captured a Mourning Dove once... I've heard that they are not very smart birds... Didn't know that about Robins though.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. hehe....my robins are like that too. i get oh so close before they fly off!!

poor sissy, i'm sure she thought she had clout!!

  18. That was entirely too close. Nice save. Sissy's body language reeks of disappointment.

  19. Good thing you clapped. Sisssy looks like a successful hunter and as much as I adore cats, they do make a mess with birdie catches.

  20. Whew, that was a close call.
Kitty might not agree, but I'm glad you clapped when you did :).

  23. I was sure worried as to how this story was going to end. Glad the robin was able to escape without being harmed. Poor Kitty...it was probably dreaming of a wonderful meal.

  24. Love the way these photos seem to rise up off the page! How'd you do that??

  25. Somehow I kind of feel sorry for poor kitty. What would we do without our cameras?

  26. Good job! I would have done the same thing. :) Poor Robin better start paying attention to his surroundings, next time you might not be there to bail him out. :)

  27. Hooray! You are a good bird mama! LOL, my kitties aren't very pleased w/ me either as I do the same thing. I'd put collars w/ bells on all the barn kitties, but I'm afraid they'd get caught on something. I hate finding a pile of feathers though :(
This is a really cute post! -Tammy
