Winter dreaming
A real friend is someone who takes a winter vacation on a sun-drenched beach and does not send a card. ~Farmer's Almanac
I wish I could say that the view above was taken from my hotel balcony recently, but in fact this photo was taken by my son on a December business trip to Destin, Florida. I love the way the reflection of the morning sun shining through the clouds looks on the water.
We have had some wonderful weather so far this winter. This time last year, we were in the middle of a big blizzard and could only dream of being somewhere warm and beautiful such as in the scene above. Some of you live on or near the water, others live with mountains nearby, maybe you live in the midwest like I do and enjoy the rolling countryside. If you were taking a winter vacation would you head for the beach or enjoy warmer weather in the southwest? Are you California dreaming or would sitting before a roaring fire in a ski lodge be your cup of tea? How about just being content to be at home enjoying nice weather this winter? That's what I'm doing. However, I might have an occasional thought or two about walking along the beach or sitting on a balcony with a view like the one above.
Until next time...

I'm thinking I'm content this winter right here in southeast Missouri... it's just been too nice & mild to hate winter this year! Hate is an awful strong word, so maybe I'll change it to 'strongly dislike.
ReplyDeleteWe had a horrible ice storm in Jan & Feb 09 where people lost electric for weeks at a time, so I welcome warmer weather in the winter!
My uncle was wondering if this means we'll have a terribly hot summer, tho... I sure hope not!
My ideal location would be weather in the 60's & 70's year round! =)
That is one beautiful view! It's been a very mild winter here in Orlando. I would love to visit the mountains in NC and enjoy some snow. :)
ReplyDeleteI would be on my way to Florida, only to visit my lovely girl at her college and not some beach! Well, maybe we could drive to the beach for one day! Beautiful picture! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a beautiful picture; magazine worthy. We just had 2 inches of snow for the first time this winter. I love snow right around Christmas; not so much after. I do like sitting by the fire we my hubby with a cup of Hot Chocolate; that is the best.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you for thoughts to ponder.
If my family were not in Missouri, I'm thinking I'd find a warmer climate. But MO has its wonderful side too.
ReplyDeleteHeadin' to the beach for me. I'll take a break from my Midwest winters along the shore. There is nothing like the sight of the ocean to relax me.
ReplyDeleteHere in Pennsylvania, the winter has been unseasonably mild. But we are still heading to Las Vegas for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture.
You know Cheryl - if money was no object - I think I would rent a villa for a few months in Greece - taking only happy people with me or even go alone. lol

If I wanted to get away from Phoenix in the winter, I should have my head examined. However, if you asked me this question in July or August, I would say an Alaskan vacation would be nice, or even a nice trip to Hawaii.
ReplyDeletei laughed at that opening quote! i like being home more than anywhere else in the world. :)
ReplyDeleteToday it's 63 and beautiful here, a year ago we had two feet of snow on the ground. We're suppose to get some nasty stuff Saturday.
ReplyDeleteYou well know how our Missouri Weather can turn on a dime.
Ahhhhh, I can almost feel the warm sand on my tooties!!! The picture is just dreamy!!!
God bless ya and have a joyful day sweetie!!!
I'm content right here in sunny Arizona planning on planting my garden in the next week or so. I don't like the cold. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteVacations always mean time at the lake, but time at the lake is not an option in February. I'm content to be at home with my books, my tea, and my furnace. Love that cute quote!
ReplyDeleteI'm not minding winter this year. It was 54 degrees here yesterday in Southern Minnesota. But if I could go on vacation I would go to a nice warm beach and lay in the sun.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the sunset on the water. I am a probably the only water person that does not know how to swim. I lived most of my life inland, so I had no water near me. Now I live 7 miles from the east coast ocean and love it. But, when I dream, I dream of the Caribbean turquoise water. Terry and I were discussing that one day and he said, as a youth, had he known then, etc, he would have headed to the Rockies... Me, I would have headed to "The Islands". It's one of those "I wonder..."things.
ReplyDeleteif i were going with hubby it would be a beach since that is the only place he will go, if it were just me or with a friend it would be the mountains of KY. that is on my bucket list, i have not been there since 1959 and i very much would like to go.
ReplyDeleteI love the beach photo your son sent you Cheryl. Now you can enjoy the view when ever you what to.
ReplyDeleteSince I live in south Florida, I guess the next best thing would be the mountains in Georgia or North Carolina.. I love both places.
Hugs,
Pam
I would SO be sitting on the beach right now with the water tickling my toes :)
ReplyDeleteBut, alas... it is not to be.
We just received a good couple of inches of snow.
It is better than last year however. At this time last year.. we had feet of snow, not just inches :)
Personally I am content to be home looking at your son's lovely beach photo. Our temperature today was close to 70 ~ perfect in my opinion. I'm finding the older I get the less I like the heat and humidity.
ReplyDeleteI've already begun planning our annual trek to the mountains. I think it's this spring weather, because it is way too early!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo ,I am an ocean lover,so long as I am looking at it and not on or in it.!!
ReplyDeleteI do not like sun bathing now,it gives me a head ache,so somewhere with a warm but not hot climate, with sea views would suit me fine.
We had - 5 temparitures last night, but the winter in Ireland has been very mild and snow free this year,so far.Last year we were snowed in for weeks.
Beautiful photo, and I am one to be happy staying home enjoying this beautiful weather, though a short trip to the mountains would be nice. ~smile~
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Sue
Hi Cheryl, I'm still dreaming that we will have a little winter (SNOW) before spring gets here... ha
ReplyDeleteWe go to the beach in North Carolina in May---and love it. It's so wonderful to be there at that time of year.
Hugs,
Betsy
Your son is a very good photographer!!! I am glad to stay at home, but wouldn't mind a trip to Philadelphia, Boston, or Ireland!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl
ReplyDeleteMy husband not a beach guy, so I'd have to go with my sis. But I wouldn't mind it for a week!
Love the Farmers Almanac quote!
There is just no way to complain about this winter!!!!! A beach is an attraction, though, no matter what time of the year!
ReplyDeletegorgeous, looks like liquid silver!!
ReplyDeletefor me, there's no place like home!!
That is an awesome picture. Would love to see it in person. Like Betsy, I am still longing for snow but taking advantage of this warm weather. May break out the kayak soon.
ReplyDeleteI wanna go, I wanna go. Beautiful picture!
ReplyDeleteI am always pretty darned content here on the farm in southwest Missouri. If fact, we often talk about where we would rather be and don't come up with anywhere!
ReplyDeleteLucky us.
I'd pick a beach. Nothing more relaxing than reading a book and listening to the pounding surf.
ReplyDeleteWell.....truthfully.....we just got home last night from a week in California!
ReplyDeleteI'm debating on how to blog about it - it was a wonderful trip, but I certainly don't want to brag.
Actually, our temps here at home in Virginia were just about the same as what we experienced there!
Great picture your son took, by the way!
So far this year, our winter has been wonderfully mild (a year ago today it was 12 degrees). I AM dreaming about the beach... though prompted by wedding announcement from my son!! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteThe light on the water is lovely. Now I can go to bed and dream of being in Florida by the ocean. :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure where I would be if I had a choice...maybe home to Tennessee....
