I snapped this old faded beauty this past weekend.
She's seen better days, as have so many of the old
wooden barns of this style. I really wish they would
try to keep some of these barns in better shape so
they will last for future generations to know
and appreciate and love.
I walked closer to get a shot of the inside. It was a bit
eerie. The wind caused one of the doors to
swing back and forth on rusty hinges. The sound was
one of abandonment.
So many of the barns of this style have the two
small windows where the hay loft is. I
thought the knotty wood siding with the faded
red paint and a tree casting a shadow over all
was interesting.
I snapped a few quick shots and got out of
Dodge before I was caught trespassing.
It really wasn't the eerie sound of the swinging
door that had me hurrying away. It wasn't.
Was it?

Until next time...
Nice photos of this old barn.
ReplyDeleteRegards and best wishes
Lovely shot of this old barn...I liked your description of the sound of the creaking door...abandonment. That was brilliant! I think I would be more freaked out by that sound than the thought of trespassing!
ReplyDeleteThe knots really show up well in the fading red paint.
ReplyDeletehey, that door was opening up for you to come on it. the barn was lonely. poor thing ...a barn with great character. (:
ReplyDeleteyou are a brave girl! i'm too scared to trespass, unless my husband is with me lol.....love the knotty wood and shadows!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got a peek inside. I have always wondered.
ReplyDeleteThat door would have had me skeedadaling.
So beautiful and so sad... Cheryl, you are a brave soul. I'd have been panicked about getting caught trespassing. LOL! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteGreat post Cheryl! I am always afraid someone is going to come after me with a gun on those old two lane roads when I am out there trying to snap a barn. Beautiful old barn and the wood texture is awesome! I agree about saving them. It will be a sad day when all that is left is metal barns.
ReplyDeletethe door could have been the ghost of barns past. THH. this is really a beautiful one and deserves to be preserved. i like the faded boards that used to be red. i bet it was a beauty in its day.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And you were very brave to take a peek inside...you just never know what ghosties lurk within. (I can just hear that squeaky door!)
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great barn - and it is a style I've seen before - always looks like a face to me - so you were alone and went out and took those pictures - you are a brave girl! sandie
ReplyDeleteit is really a beauty. the 4 lower doors are neat. wish she was kept...
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, snapping pictures of barns isn't easy. Especially when you want to get up close and personal. That barn could still be saved if someone had a mind to do so. I'm with you, it is such a shame that so many of these treasures have been allowed to fall into disrepair.
ReplyDeleteI've joined in the barn fun!

Were you alone?! That would have been enough to send me scurrying. What great photos you got, though. I don't think whoever the owner is would mind your capturing such a great barn.
ReplyDeleteI've learned to be very careful about treading on others' property to get that perfect shot! I was afraid one day I was going to be arrested. But with a beauty like this, the temptation is hard to resist!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I wish that people would keep their barns in good repair. It would be so expensive to build one today, so maybe they should think about fixing up these old ones.
ReplyDeleteWonderful old barn, and it was speaking to you of better days. I would not be able to resist a closer look either.
ReplyDeleteI love these old barns, too....glad you ventured closer.
ReplyDeleteI love that barn shape!
ReplyDeleteThe effect of the paint on the knots is rather artistic. But I agree that it is such a shame for these lovely and historic buildings to rot! If the owners don't even care to keep the place up, I would think they wouldn't care if someone walks around and takes pictures, but you just never know...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your barn moments and thanks for the great pictures.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the barn was calling out for someone to save it .
Thanks for sharing.
I know what you mean, but if you're anything like me, it would be the sound of some old man stepping out from behind cocking his shotgun! YiKeS! That's what I'm always scared to death of!!!
ReplyDeleteThe barn is a beauty, indeed, & I 2nd the notion of wishing they'd keep them in better shape & take care of them... they're too beautiful & historic to lose!
I love the shape of this old beauty
Thanks so much for joining =)
What a great old barn. I bet it has a lot of stories to tell.
ReplyDeleteOoh...there's that ugly word: trespassing..... Hmmm. I would NEVER, EVER do such a thing.... ;)
ReplyDeleteAnyway - I love this old barn. Such a beauty. So sad to see them wasting away.
This is a great old faded beauty. I would have been tempted to go inside too and snap a few pictures too. I guess all of us taking pictures of these lovely old barns will have to keep scrapbooks of them for future generations to see.
ReplyDeleteGreat barn Cheryl! Great pics!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of a classic barn! I'm afraid that I'm not as brave as you are... yet.
ReplyDeletePS I nominated you for some blog awards over at my place today! :)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you! Just a little love and care would help these barns stay around for generations! Great pictures as usual!
ReplyDeleteYes. it truly would be wonderful if farmers maintained their barns better... but I fear it may be too expensive for most of them. That's such a shame too!
ReplyDeleteThis really is a CHARM! I love old barns! I'm proud of you, I probably would have never walked close enough to have gotten any good shots...
ReplyDeleteLovely post!

What a great find! Too bad she's no longer in use. It almost looks as if a strong wind could blow her down! Thanks for checking my barn out. Enjoy the weekend.
