Saturday's sightings

I haven't snapped many birds this winter and one of the reasons is that we have had 2 uninvited cats hanging around our house.  One of them, I'm afraid, has taken up permanent residence and the other is a frequent visitor.

Don't get me wrong, I'm quite fond of cats but I love my birds, too.  The cats have been keeping my birds away from the feeders in the back yard.  Well, at least during the times that the light is good and I want to shoot photos out my window!

This Tufted Titmouse was kind enough to sit still for a few shots today.  He was a little nervous while watching one of the cats watching him.

Here she is looking up in the tree just behind her.  She is almost grown and a sweet little kitty.  We've been feeding her.  After all, how can you turn away a hungry little beggar all alone in the world?  Of course, the other cat that is a frequent visitor is a male.  You know what that means.  I hope we can find a good home for her.

I've been seeing Robins this week.  This shot was taken just before I snapped the photos of the Titmouse and I have no idea why it turned out blurry.   I love the first sighting of robins each year, that definitely tells me that spring is on the way!

Until next time...

  2. I can't wait for the robins! None here so far, but they seem to come earlier each year, when it's still SO cold! Gosh, that cat is laying right under the bird giving it the evil eye! I hope it doesn't kill the babies in the spring! But we also love both cats and birds. Guess you just gotta feed both!

  3. That titmouse is so cute...love his haircut.....

My Simon looks kinda like the gray kitty but instead of laying out in the open, Simon hides behind a bush and then tries to ambush them....But he never gets close. I think the birds are taunting him to tell you the truth....

  7. Great shots of your birds. We've been watching blue birds around our blue bird box. My husband loves the birds and is the one who feed them.

  8. Very beautiful!

Me too on a stray cat. I tried not feeding him. Then I tried to stop feeding him. Then I gave up and now I feed him. You know what that means right? I have a new cat.

  9. Cheryl,

What a beautiful bird! I love to watch them especially in the wintertime. We have some beautiful cardinals that visit us.

  10. Sweet bird photos. I saw a flock of robins the other day which is way too early for our region but many are reporting seeing them lately. We had 8 inches of snow last night so I hope they can find some food. I hope you find a home for the cat(s). :)

  12. It's not blurry, it's artsy! The little titmouse is so cute. Oh you are a soft touch. Feeding the stray cats. She is a pretty little thing, though, isn't she? Such a soft gray coat.

  13. Love your bird pics! We haven't had many birds this winter, maybe because it has been so mild.

I always love to see your bird shots! I don't feed anymore, so....
My problem wasn't cat, it was the squirels eating all my bird feed.
That titmouse shot makes me think I can reach out and feel the birds tuft.

  15. We've had a lot of Robins in the past week. They're so pretty! Your little birds are so cute! Hope kitty don't get them. :) Very kind of you to help kitty, but I would take her down to ASPCA and have her spayed, so you don't end up with kittens. :) She is a pretty kitty cat.

  18. Now that is lazy bird stalking:)) I agree on getting her spayed at a spay/neuter clinic. She looks ripe for being a momma.

  22. Beautiful photos, Cheryl, and kitty cat is beautiful too! I always hate it when our barn cat catches a bird, I would much rather see him with a mouse. ~smile~
    Enjoy your day.

  23. The first Robin of the new year is always exciting. We heard peepers this week too!

Tell your strays to be good kitties and go after the moles and mice and leave your birdies alone!!!

  26. Hi Cheryl, I'm glad we don't have any cats around here. Our birds are pretty protected... I'm like you---I love cats, but I also love my birdies...

    Have a great week.
