We're back...

Have you ever driven into a town/city and felt like you were coming home?  On our trip, we stopped in at Ste. Genevieve, Mo, a historic French Colonial village about an hour south of St. Louis.  This charming little town is known as one of America's oldest European settlements west of the Mississippi River.  I just fell in love with this old town and I could easily live here.  I love old things and always have.  The old buildings and just the quietness and slower pace of living here greatly appeal to me.
This house was constructed by Louis Bolduc in 1792 and is the first authentically restored historic structure in Ste. Genevieve.

The Felix Valle house was constructed in 1818 in the Federal style.
The beautiful Crepe Myrtle is frequently seen around town and the photo above really belongs to the house pictured below.
This quaint, quiet, laid-back little village is just chock full of interesting old homes, a mix of early nineteenth-century architecture.   There are
also unique little gift and antique shops galore to explore.

I wish I could say that I have many more photos to share, but I really didn't take many photos on this trip.  There are times when lugging around a camera and holding it up to your face and getting the right settings for the best shot, etc., are just not that important to me.  And this vacation was one of those times.  We had a relaxing, fun trip and we will be heading down to Branson soon for the second leg of our vacation.  For now, I'm off to do some blog reading and catch up on what you have been doing!

Until next time...

  2. Your photos are lovely, and just make me want to visit there all the more. St. G has been on our list for a long time. Seems like there's always something getting in the way of going somewhere, darn it. Guess sometimes ya just gotta GO! :) Glad you had a nice time, and I have to say I'm a little jealous *in a good way* about your Branson trip. I am pining away for Silver Dollar City.. it's been too long!! Enjoy!! -Tammy

  3. I enjoy those type towns, too, and why I love our little town. We just bought & planted 8 deep cranberry colored Crape Myrtle bushes. We had one already and I just love it.

  6. What neat old homes. Bet they would cost an arm and leg today.
Glad you had such a nice time. When you go to Branson, pick up some shoes for me. That is what I always get when we go.

  7. I have always wanted to visit that town.

Living in Missouri and having a son in St.Louis, you would have thought I would have by now.

Enjoy Branson. That is about one hour south of me.

  12. Welcome home. You have been missed out here in blogland.
It looks like you had a nice getaway and I completely understand your feelings about not wanting to always lug the camera around. I feel the same way at times.
The village you visited looks so quaint and interesting. I've never been to Missouri, but after reading your blog I would love to get there one of these days.
