The Missouri River and a sunset


Yesterday, my daughter and I took an evening drive to the nearest town that has a WalMart.  For us that is a river town called Boonville.  We decided to walk on the walkway by the side of the bridge that crosses the Missouri River.  I, of course, took my camera along to get a shot of the sun going down in a pretty orange sky. 


After a short walk, we turned around and went back to the car and drove to the Lookout Point at the City Park.  It was about time to say goodbye to the sun.  The sky had changed from the fiery orange into a soft pink and blue. 
  
The river is still very high.  You can see water standing in the fields on the other side of the tree-lined bank of the river.   We had a good rain in this area yesterday.  I just hope the river doesn't get any higher. 

We enjoyed the quiet setting for a few minutes until a motorcycle zoomed in and we decided it was time to leave and get our shopping done.  We just wanted to stop and enjoy a Missouri river sunset.

    Hey, I've been to Boonville! In the '70's, but I was there! hehehe Great photo of the sunset, and great quote.

    so very beautiful. in the first photo, the sun looks like it might be saying to something in the trees, beam me up scotty. that ray dipping into the trees is gorgeous

    Love that golden river shot. Strange to think you all are still with the high waters. There are so many states in drought conditons. Nobody said Nature was fair.

    What gorgeous photos of the River, especially the first sunset one! I have been wondering how about the flooding as it isn't in our news as much now. I have family in & around Omaha & know they were having flooding their earlier. I also have family in Boonville! In fact, one of my cousins owns & operates the A & W there. Small world, huh?

    I remember traveling I70 during the flood of 1993 & seeing the waters lap around the sandbags near the Missouri River bridge. And I think it was from that flood that some of my family lost a business & a home.

    Hmmm....thinking I may need a Central Missouri trip!

    Beautiful walk you two took. The bridge over the Missouri River at Jefferson city has a new multi million dollar walkway. We so wanted to do it before the grandsons went to school, but it never did happen, and they started school today!

    It was about a year ago that I took pictures from, I believe, that exact same spot! Our son and his family live in Prairie Home, so Boonville is where they shop too. Small world....

    Amazing shots. I haven't seen a sunset like that in years being down in the hollow as we are.

    Cheryl I am so happy you got that camera! Your photos are beeutiful, beeutiful, BEEutiful!!!! Glad you and your daughter got to take in little Boonville. It is a nice town with great places to EAT all around. Have you checked out Warm Springs close there where the Clydesdales are stabled? It is a great tour and beautiful out there. And you can always enjoy a nice lunch somewhere :)
