What do you think about....

Selfies.  Love 'em or hate 'em?  Or maybe somewhere in between?

It seems like many are taking photos of themselves, including celebrities and even the president.

I have taken one or two, but that's it and that was for the blog and the other time was just for fun.  Here is a link to the post where I included a selfie that I took while I was shopping and it was at the end of a very long day.  (Not the best time to take a selfie, by the way.)

Now here's what the world has been waiting for....The Farmer's Daughter's advice for selfie takers:

-Please don't take photos of yourself at a funeral.  Not cool.

-If you snap a shot of yourself in a bathroom mirror, please crop out the unpleasant accessories.  (I have to say it's rather hard to crop out the dark circles under ones eyes.)

-No duck faces please.

-Watch the nostrils.  We don't need to see your boogers.

-Ask yourself how many selfies have you shared this week?  You don't want people to think you are a narcissist.

-Make sure you haven't just eaten broccoli before cheesing for your selfie.

-And last but not least (see photo above):  don't leave your camera unattended.  You never know what will turn up when you transfer your photos to a computer.

Until next time...

  1. I've been taking pictures of myself in scenes for years, before the world declared them selfies because I was always alone. NEEDLESS to say I LOVE 'em. Also LOVE your advice on them. I'll be sure to listen. Absolutely adore the kitty selfie.

  3. Like Taryterre above, I LOVE selfies, take many of them and don't mind at all when others post selfies on their blogs or facebook. Life is and should be about fun and selfies are just that... FUN. xox

  4. Not a problem for me --- I haven't liked pictures of myself for around 50 years (I'm almost 69 now.) Nice little list of handy-dandy hints, though. Have a blessed day, and tell kitty that the picture is cute!

  5. Not crazy about selfies but I think they are fine with your list of suggestions! I wouldn't object to any of your selfies Cheryl.. :) Maybe it is about who is doing the selfie and how many selfies they do. And Callie's selfie is so dang cute I want to give her a gentle nose boop and a snuggle-huggle!

  6. Cheryl, Be glad your cat doesn't have thumbs. :):) My g.daughter is taking selfies all the time...I do not want her being so vain. As far as posting and texting go...I tell my grandkids do not put anything out there, that you would not want me to see or read. LOL. Hope your day is fun, xoxo,Susie

  9. I love the kitty selfie. LOVE it.

I don't like the puckered look selfie. I know the kids think it looks cool, but it doesn't.

  10. wow, that is a close-up. such a cutie!! ( :

i think it depends on what kind of time it is for "selfies" time ... if you are close enough for a bogger check (always blow nose before "selfies" time - you are way too close!! back it on up. i was watching a tv news program saying that "selfies" are causing a lot of people to want plastic surgery. not sure why? but whatever.

should we be worried that your kats or kitty kats got the cell from you & have taken over the house? ha. ha!!

  11. Great list there....especially the nostril one!! Oh geez, I need to be as far away from the camera as I can be, when a picture of myself is taken....so no selfies here!! Fun post!!

  13. I have used my web cam for a few only for humor on my blog. i will be glad when selfies are no longer IN... i am tired of seeing them on TV, even American Idol and other shows they are all doing it as part of the show. it is a fad that will move on when they find something else. my husbands granddaughters seflies on FB are disturbing to both of us...

  16. Isn't it funny how fads take off? I remember taking pics of myself even back when I was a teenager...of course I had to wait 'til the film got developed to see if my face even got in it...lol!

  17. I actually have never taken a selfie but given your suggestions now I just may have to just to say I have. That bathroom mirror thing, should it be clothed or naked or...???? TMI right? Maybe you should had another rule! Seriously that kitty has a future in photo journalism. Thanks for making me smile on a gloomy Wednesday.

  18. Cheryl, I haven't taken but one selfie and it was to capture the results of a nasty fall I had. Loved your post. It was cheerful and fun and we all need some of that these days.

  24. CUTE kittie! I'm not much on selfies...mostly because I like to hide behind someone else when I'm forced to have my picture taken...(kinda hard to do that when it's just you and the camera) LOL

  25. Now that is a cute selfie. I have found at my age that selfies really emphasis facial flaws like sun spots and wrinkles. Distance is an old person's friend.

  26. Heheh those are great tips for taking selfies. I have been taking 'test' selfies trying to get a decent one and not succeeding. They get deleted pretty quickly too. I really need to get a new profile pic done. I may have to get hubby to help or use the camera timer.

  27. Hi Cheryl!

Hee Hee! I couldn't agree more! Another thing I hate, is the pictures with those big black frame glasses - what's up with that?! And when they are taking the pictures with their arms in the air . . . shave first! That's my rant!

These are just too funny, but all of them are so true! I don't do selfies, I think they make my nose look too large... ;0)

    Hugs,
    Barb

  30. I didn't know what a "selfie" was until late last year! My grands have introduced me to the world of selfies via all the social media sites!

You will not be seeing one of me, I assure you!!! I thought yours was quite good, BTW.
