Peanut's Great Adventure

As you can see, it's a rainy day.  Looking out my dirty kitchen window is my little, always-into-something-except-when-she's sleeping, Peanut.  Yesterday, she nearly caused me heart failure.  I may have mentioned a few weeks ago that she had caused me to hurt my right hand and it's still not back to normal.

My windows are casements, the screens are on the inside.  I often take a screen off and roll out the window for taking pics of the birds.  Peanut is very fast and had hopped onto the sill and was past me and out on the brick ledge before I could catch her.  The problem is not that I feared for her going outside, but falling two stories (walkout basement here) onto a concrete patio.  I tried coaxing her in to no avail, I couldn't reach her and if I could have I was afraid she would squirm out of my hands and still fall.  Then I thought "treats" and grabbed the sack and called to her.  She did turn around, almost falling in the process (another heart failure moment), and came right on inside.  Funny thing about the treats trick is that she is the only one of the now 4 kitties we have that doesn't really like them.

All's well that ended well....but as you might imagine, it was quite a moment.  Have you had any trying moments with your pets lately?

Until next time...

  1. actually, yes. thelma's head is under wraps after a squabble w/ a coyote and an ear that kept busting open and bleeding everywhere. *sigh* one harrowing trip to the vet later and we'll see...

  4. Cats can be QUICK, can't they? Glad she came back inside... I'm sure that was scary, Cheryl...

Not pets right now --but I've had scary moments with all of my pets through the years.

  6. glad she came back and is safe. when Jake was maybe 5 months old, we had only had him for a month, he found a hole in the privacy fence and went through it, the hole was not big enough so could not figure how he did it. he was in a 2 foot space between two privacy fences, ours and the neighbors. i ran in the house and got a dog cookies, gave him one, then held another just inside so he could not reach it, he finally squeezed himself back through the hole. pets are soooo fun

  8. Well, Peanut is one seriously adorable kitty.

My Abby slipped out once when I was taking a picture and I was so afraid of scaring her because in back of me it is thick with brush and trees in the summer. She is NOT equipped for outdoor adventures. She is cross-eyed and clumsy.Plus we have coyotes. My heart was beating so fast until I finally caught her.

  10. I was just telling my Daughter last night that cats have a mind of their own and only do what they want when they want.

Very happy you got her in safe and sound. Hope your hand is feeling better.

  12. I bet she just wanted to go out and explore that great big world out there. I'm glad she responded to the treats! We don't have any pets but our son has a 5 month old Lab/Shepherd pup who loves to chew the furniture as in the sofa! Ruined it!!

  13. Great job of talking down the jumper. Wonder if the police have ever thought of treats when trying to talk someone down off a ledge??

  14. I'm so glad Peanut is fine. :) I just read Pamela's comment and my Lab/Shepherd also ate our couch as a pup! A huge leather couch! Here lately we've had to keep an eye on our kitty and pups just because Our 100 lb pup could accidently hurt Foxy. We put her in our bedroom when we leave home. :)

  15. I'm glad you were able to coax her in with the treats!
I don't have any pets so no drama there.
I's raining here in Minnesota too. I hope it just turns over to snow and not ice.

  18. Happy you coaxed back in with treats. Sometimes I think they just like the sound of the treat bag shaking!

  21. See, it's like this, God allow us to have upstart pets to upstart our hearts. That's what I think anyway.

Oh if you could have seen me earlier trying to get this comment to post. The iPad! But all's well that ends well.

  22. My Sweetie Dog is so lazy, and tends to follow Dan around like she is afraid he is going to disappear...so she is not adventurous at all. Glad your Peanut is ok...hope your hand heals well!

  23. We have no pets at this stage in life. Quick thinking on the treats.

  24. So glad everything turned out well, and I love that picture of Peanut with the raindrops on the window in the background.
Sundae's pretty well behaved - I used to get nervous when she walked along the outer edge of the railing to the balcony/loft in our bedroom. But she's done it so much, I'm not really concerned any more. (Now that I say that, she'll probably fall...!)

  25. I have removed all of the screens on my kitchen windows so I can open them and get pictures of my birdies and deer. Since we no longer have any inside cats, my heart failure moment have been reduced considerably! I'm just glad Peanut isn't a squashed Peanut!

We hardly got any rain at all. Just a drizzle :(

  26. Whoa- that was a scare! Glad she came back in without too much trouble.

  27. So scary; I am happy she is OK. We do love our pets and at times they do things that cause concern. They do become part of our family and I think they think they are one of us. At least that is the way our dog, Sammy acts.
    Blessings!
