Planets and Spring

Have you caught the Venus and Jupiter show this week?  The two planets are said to be the closest today, March 15.  I just stepped outside with my camera and got this quick shot as the clouds were moving in.

* * * * * * * *

In answer to a question about yesterday's photo.  The two little boys with me were neighbors in our farming community where I grew up.  We were at a birthday party at J's house, the boy on the right, who had turned 4 years old.  S, the boy on the left, and I were 3 at the time of the photo.  We all attended the same one room country school.  S and I went through all 12 years of school together and even went on to the same college.  No, we didn't plan it that way.  I actually had a crush on J at one time in my younger days and he gave me my first kiss.  He even told me one time when we were in grade school that if he didn't love Nan so much, he might marry me!  J and Nan were childhood sweethearts who married and had 2 beautiful daughters, one of which was in my daughter's class and they were friends!  S moved away after college and became an airline pilot who flew out of St. Louis and I understand he had a nice family, too.  Both were really nice guys (and handsome, I might add) who did well and had wonderful families, the sad news is that J passed away a few years ago of a brain aneurysm.

As to what I had for dinner yesterday for my birthday.  Mexican food!  I had a Chicken Fajita and couldn't eat it all, so I finished the rest for breakfast this morning.  It was yummy both times!  I'm still coughing a lot and have zero energy, but there's nothing wrong with my appetite.  ;-)

One more thing...I actually got off the property today and went to the chiropractor who is helping my aching back a lot.  More about him another day.  Anyway, after that appt. was over, I headed to Wally World and got a few necessary items and couldn't help noticing how Spring has sprung since I've been in the house for all these many days sick!  The forsythia is blooming beautifully, the Bradford Pears and other spring trees are in full bloom, the daffodils and other spring flowers are blooming!   It was wonderful seeing all these signs of Spring!  How is Spring looking in your neighborhood?  Have you had to mow the lawn yet?  It won't be long here!

Until next time...

  2. Poor thing.. Hope you get to feeling better soon. It's bad enough to have a flu-bug --but to also have back problems just makes it harder...

We are having summer-like weather here this week. The Daffodils, Forsythia, Bradford Pears, and even the Tulips are blooming.

We do need to MOW very very soon...
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  3. Interesting about your friends. I've often wondered about the little boy I grew up with? sounds like your birthday was fun. The clouds cleared so I could see Jupiter and Venus today. but truth be told i've been watching them for a while. take care.

  4. The exact same things are blooming here that are blooming there. What a story about your picture from the other day. Well, they say a picture tells a thousand words, and this one sure does!! I'm so glad you're getting out and feeling better.

  5. Thanks for sharing childhood memories. Those are always fun. Sad for your friend though, he must have been so young.

Glad to hear you had something yummy for your birthday dinner. :)
We just cut our lawn today. First time since last November!

  6. Thanks for the info on the picture from yesterday. It's such a sweet photo!
Glad you're better and able to be out enjoying the first signs of spring. I think the Bradford Pears began blooming overnight!
Hope you continue to feel better, and that cough will soon be gone.

  7. Hooray for getting off the property. I'm interested to hear more about your chiropractor. I'm headed to mine this morning.
I wasn't aware of the Venus and Jupiter show, but that must have been what I saw when I was out walking last night. I saw a lot of stars and one that was bigger and extra bright.
I enjoyed the background story on your sweet photo.
We've been mowing here for a few weeks now.
    Take Care.

  8. That cough that is going around is horrible. I am doing pretty well with mine and I finally started Hubs on something that is helping his.

I think my Hubs had his cough for about a month and still coughs once in awhile.

  10. Thanks for the details of the picture.

I had chicken and steak fajitas night before last...YUMMY!

I think if it is not raining by the time we get home from an eye appointment, Roger might mow. It is definitely looking a bit raggedy in spots.

  13. It looks like mud, dirty snow, and brown grass. Pretty ugly really. You paint a lovely picture.

Thanks for sharing the rest of the story. Very interesting how your lives were intertwined.

  17. Happy birthday again. I liked your story and your picture too. Interesting story about your friend. When we are young those kids are so important to us - and little do we realize that we grow up and won't be with them anymore. sandie

  18. I hope you will be feeling really good soon. I am praying for you. I have had pneumonia twice in the last 3 years and it does take a while to get your energy back. Spring hasn't arrived here quite yet but I am looking forward to it.
I loved the sweet picture below. I am sorry at the lose of a friend.
Blessings to you and hugs too!

  20. Hi Cheryl!

So sorry you have been sick! I've been out of blogging commission for a week or so, and it's amazing what you miss. Hope you start feeling like yourself very soon... :0)

Happy late birthday! Mexican food is good no matter what time you eat it, and I'm so glad you enjoyed yours for breakfast! I love that picture of you when you were little - fun stories about the two boys. You are a cutie!

Spring is trying to get here. We have had rain for the past week, and it is warming up into the 50's most days. We really had no winter this year, so it's throwing us all off just a tad! Fun post!

    Hugs,
    Barb

P.S. My husband got so bored a few weeks ago that he went out and mowed the lawn . . . that is not even growing! But it sure did look good!

  21. I have been noticing Venus and Jupiter. They look so close to us, it's kind of unnerving. I really hope the chiropractor helps you! Nothing worse than a aching back! I hope you feel better soon!

  25. It's very unusual that you knew the boys all during your growing up year and afterward too. I moved a couple of times in my youth. My daughters did go to the same h.s. I did, so they were friends with children of people I had known too.

I love the blossoms and the buds that are coming out now too. Love the fresh air before the heat sets in.
