I forgot to get a new seed block for this feeder when I was at the store that carries such.  This Red-bellied Woodpecker is one of many who have been dining here regularly.  I think I mentioned already the pesky Grackles that swoop in and devour the seed in no time.

 Mr. Cardinal awaiting his turn.

I think he's wondering "where's the seed?"

There's not much left!

He's looking a little bummed out or maybe he's just trying to tell me to go shopping.

I've said this before, but I just adore redbud trees.  Here are a few that are behind our pond.  You can see the water going out of the spillway.  We've had more rain and our pond is full.  We have many redbuds on our Back 40 6 and about 6 in our yard.  I think the birds must have planted 2 of them as they came up volunteer.

The sun is out now and it's time for me to get busy.  Hope you are enjoying this Thursday!

Until next time...

  3. Love the birdies. So sweet. Our redbud bit the dust a few years back. But they are beautiful. Take care.

  5. I, too, love redbuds-a really welcome sight in the spring. Way to early, as are the dogwoods, but gorgeous! Really enjoy all your many photos.

We don't get cardinals up our way much. It was a real treat to see them and the redbud trees while I was in Iowa!
I guess that's one of the reasons I enjoy your blog so much; you have pictures of the things that remind me of my roots!!

  8. Lucky you!
You certainly have some beautiful wildlife where you live, and the redbuds are gorgeous!!

We have a certain kind of woodpecker here.. I've heard of them referred to as 'flickers'.
They are a pain! Always drilling holes in folks' eaves etc.

Wonder if you have flickers there?

  15. I think you need to buy a few blocks and feed that hungry bird. I was thinking even in the birds world there is a pecking order. Love your pond with the beauty of the rosebuds. sandie

  24. Love the pictures, Cheryl! The redbud trees are gorgeous here, too. All the blooms, on everything, seem so much brighter than usual. Maybe it's because we've had such an early spring/summer! And also the cardinals....your photo really captures the colors I've seen on ours....kind of an orange/red this year. Very pretty!
