Making Friends

Stormy being brave and trying to get her bluff in on Marley.

Our son and his puppy, Marley, were here several days during Christmas.
Our family had a great time.  We played a lot of games, ate, visited, and watched Marley and our kitty, Stormy,
whenever they got close to each other.
We were hoping they would get along and become friends.
Stormy had to stay downstairs the first
two days, mostly because she would hiss and want
to strike at Marley with her claws showing.
Finally, she decided she had enough of being alone
most of the time and ventured upstairs.

Help Mom, lock that dog up!!

The minute Marley made a move to walk closer to Stormy,
she hightailed it down the hall with Marley in hot pursuit.
We then decided it might be wise to put
Marley in the kennel for a while.

That's much better, thanks!

Stormy thought that was an excellent idea, too.  She
was very relaxed by now and started pulling herself along
inch by inch toward the kennel.  They stared at each other
for quite some time and almost touched noses.
After a while, we decided to try again
with Marley out of the kennel.

Let's try getting along again outside the kennel, okay?

Well, peace reigned for all of 5 minutes, then it was a game of
cat and mouse puppy again.  They were back to chasing and
stalking each other.

Don't get too close, Marley!

Watch out!

Friends from a distance is good.
Until next time...

  1. Cheryl,I am sure these two will get along together eventually.I do not have a cat but my son does, the cat hated Archie when he was introduced as a pup,but now they get on well. The cat has not met my Freddie yet,I do foresee the problems you had, when they do meet.!!
Marley is a lovely looking dog and Stormy is so cute.

I would like to wish you and your family a very Happy and Peaceful New year, and I look forward to swapping our stories from across the pond in 2012.

  4. Cheryl such a fun post this morning! I love Stormy's obvious relief and thankfulness for having some time with Marley in crate. They are funny and I think they will become more tolerant of each other. That is a BIG dog for Stormy to process :) Marley is a cutie. AND thank you so much for the Name/URL option in comments, it is a lifesaver for me with the Wordpress blog and a wonky keyboard!

  7. That was so cute! Isn't it amazing how cats know when a dog can't get to them and flaunts its freedom? All things considered, it looks like they did pretty good.

Hope you have a great day!

  8. Cute- they tried anyway- but the pups always seem to get the worst of it when dealing with kitty's sharp claws. I have to put my cat up whenever anyone comes over. She is not visitor-friendly.

  14. Perhaps if they'd had a little longer. Your story is a fun one to read. The captions perfectly tell what's going on.

(I am always surprised to find Molly and Fioré together. They are often together on cold days.)

  19. The will get used to one another soon. My best friend has several dogs and a cat, and with time the cat lets the dogs know she is in charge, and then all is well.
    :-)
Hope you have a very Happy New Year!

  21. These are really cute pics to go along with a cute story.
In that second pic your Stormy looks quite upset no question about it and her tails looks all puffed out in this pic. Even unhappy, she's so cute!
