This and that...and Happy 4th!

We celebrate the birthday of the United States of America on July 4th.  Flags will be flying, towns will have parades, barbeques and fireworks.   We usually end the day by watching the fireworks display put on at the park in our town.  It's pretty good for a small town.  I love watching the displays, but have never liked the sound of firecrackers.  Must have something to do with my brothers loving to shoot them off, when we were kids, underneath my bedroom window at night scaring me half to death.  LOL   However you celebrate, hope your weekend is a fun-filled and safe one!

The sofa...
Here is the long-awaited sofa.  They told me it would be here in 4 or 5 weeks, it took 2 months and 4 days!  I really like it, but it will take some getting used to as it seems so big in comparison to my old sofa.  It is the same length as my other sofa, but the cushions are definitely thicker and that makes it seem so much taller.  Even the coffee table looks small now.  I need to put something different on the wall behind it, what I have there now definitely doesn't go with the sofa.  That's why this photo has been cropped!   Other purchases need to be made, such as some colorful throw pillows and maybe an area rug in front is in order.  I'll have to live with it awhile and take my time finding just the right accessories.  The carpet is going to be replaced eventually, too.   And the window treatment.  And the....  Is there an end to all this?  Help!

The daylilies are nearly through blooming.  We have quite a few growing out in the pasture, but they got mowed down this week.  The grass was raked and is being baled as I type this.  I see the tractor has a nice cab which I hope is air conditioned.  It is so very HOT today as it was yesterday.   Hubby will be home soon and we are heading to Columbia for a bit of shopping.  He'll be my chauffeur and drive me up to the door and I'll run in and make my purchases and he can pick me up all the while keeping the car running with the a/c on!  Stay cool wherever you are and enjoy your weekend.  HAPPY 4TH ~ I'll see you next week!

Until next time...

  1. Love having hubby drop me off and pick me up when I'm shopping. And keeping the a/c running in the car is a bonus!

  2. Hi There, So glad to get home and back to blogging. We did have a fabulous trip--but home is pretty nice also!!!!!

We enjoyed your state ---and thought about you when we drove through there. Wish we could have met you.

I do have a question... I'm not sure but Missouri is the only state we have ever seen which uses LETTERS for their county roads... How does that work --if there are a bunch of "A" roads throughout the state???

    Love the new sofa.. Congrats.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. A lovely chatty post... Wonderful new sofa! That's what we're looking for...something taller so we don't sink sooooo looooowwww. It looks like a nice, neutral one that will be fun to decorate around.

Have a lovely 4th of July!

  6. I am laughing about your new sofa. Strange how one new piece of furniture can suddenly make everything else in the room seem
---wrong. Smart furniture stores should give you the first piece for then you would be back for all the other things.
    Stay cool as possible.

  7. "Been there & done that"...with the sofa. When we bought a new piano, it lead to new carpet, sofa, tables, paint, etc. I've learned when you get a new piece of furniture, there will be more things to change! -- I love your daylilies! We call them "ditch lilies" here & I don't have any. They are blooming along the roadways & I am tempted to get my shovel & take a little ride! ; ) And to Betsy in TN.-- I'm an old Missourian & don't know for sure about the naming of the road system. But I have always assumed that the letters change in each county. I know Hallsville was on Route B!

  10. I really like the style of sofa you have chosen. Now you can use any colors you like in re-decorating.

The ditches around us are filled with those daylilies. I love how they look.

    Happy 4th.

  11. Cheryl, NO there is no end to it once you have bought one new piece of furniture. Stormy will become a lovely new pillow kind of decoration. She even coordinates beautifully! Hope you are enjoying your 4th and HEY! guess what? I have a chauffeur too. Are we not just the lucky ones?

Isn't it funny how one thing always leads to another and another when you start making changes? LOL! It never stops!

  16. Dianna: yes it was a great way to shop!

Betsy: glad you and George are home safe and sound. Lettered roads in MO are considered secondary roads and another county may have the same letter near your county. It's confusing if you don't know what county you are in.

Jill: thanks, our Fourth was quiet this year. Well, except for the fireworks going off all around us! Hope you had a nice weekend.

Debbie: yeah, they always say one thing and do another! The boom booms (cute!) scared my kitty. I remember our dog was really afraid of fireworks.

Vee: I chose this sofa deliberately for the ability to get up from it easily! Something one needs to be able to do when they reach an...ahem...older age.

AR Patti: I'd forgotten what problems getting a new piece of furniture would create or I might not have gotten it!

Sheila: I never heard of daylilies being called "ditch" lilies! I'll be sorry when they quit blooming.

Carolyn: Hope your 4th was a good one!

Bev J: thanks! Glad you stopped by.

gld: The color will be easy to work with. I love daylilies too and will be sad when they quit blooming.

Pix: Aren't chauffeurs the best? And best of all is when they don't complain about the waiting!

Tanna: hope you had a wonderful 4th! You're so right about decorating, there's no end to it!

Shug: thanks for your visit, I know how busy you've been! I love my sofa, just hope I make the right decisions on area rugs and pillows.

Kim: A/C...I don't think I'd survive a Missouri summer without it! Hope your 4th was great.

Leontien: what is behind the sofa is a large picture with lots of blue in it. My previous sofa was a pale blue stripe with off white and some flowers. This large picture doesn't go with the sofa at all.
