News From The Week

I'm trying not to say anything about how fast the weeks are flying by, but it's hard.  Oops.  I think I did say it after all.  Well, they are!  Anyone feeling the swift passage of time besides me?

Good news...we have a carpenter beginning the first of the week on The Project.  He will do most of the bathroom upstairs.  He's putting in the tub and has to take out part of a wall to get it in.  It's a very small bathroom.  Then he will skim coat the walls and prepare them for painting.  I am still looking for a tub surround or whatever they are called.  BG still has some wiring to do in there.

And then, Mr. Carpenter, will tackle the upper deck and the leaky roof over the deck.  It was determined that the deck needed some replacement beams and supports and part of the floor needs replacing, too.  The roof will be fixed and once that is done, BG can tackle the room where the leaking was going on inside the closet.

Those are probably the biggest hurdles to jump and then painting can begin.  Then the floors will be refinished and probably some carpeting put down in a couple of rooms.  We still haven't gotten the outside painting done, but it's either raining or too hot!  The basement will be done later.  After MY basement is done!

After too long a break, we are getting back to work on The Project. Getting the help we needed...after I finally got BG to agree to that...took a little time.

For new readers, The Project is the house  we bought that needs repairing.  More repairs were needed than we first thought.  Isn't that always the way?

I'll have to tell on myself.  BG is still in the dark on this one.  When I drove to the lake Tuesday evening to watch the sunset, I took his truck.  It was getting dark when I came home, so I had turned on the lights.  Later that night, my daughter came in and asked why the truck lights were on.  Oh, oh.  She then discovered the truck wouldn't start...the battery had run down.  Well, I sure didn't want to wake BG up to tell him as he goes to work at 6 am during the summer.  So, she called her boyfriend and luckily he could come over with some jumper cables to get the truck started.  Whew!  I still haven't told BG about this.  Not that he would care, but I just didn't want to tell him how stupid forgetful I was.  I might not get to drive the truck after dark again!  lol!  Okay, have you ever done this?  Tell me I'm not the only one.

One more bit of news I'm excited about...I finally have a smart phone.  My old fliptop wouldn't charge, so I had to get something else and decided to upgrade.  It's an iPhone 6.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it, I just hope it doesn't take me too long to learn how to operate the thing.  lol!  I can't wait to take some photos with it.  You think I'll get much work done this weekend?   Maybe I'd better revise my list and add "play with iPhone".  I hope you have a nice weekend and take some time to play, too!

Happy weekend to you!
xo Cheryl

  1. I haven't left the lights on for a while, but only because I'm so OCD. Glad you were able to recharge the battery! I miss my iPhone. We got Windows phones last August because the camera on them was so good, but I'll be going back to an iPhone next summer as soon as I can. Have fun playing with it! They are very user friendly! :)

Happy you found a carpenter to help with some work on The Project . . .
And I think your husband will enjoy a chuckle when he hears your "leaving the lights on" story!

  6. Cheryl, LOL, you sneaky girl. It was a beautiful sunset photo though. I was so glad to read that you are repairing the deck and putting in new supports. You hear of crowds gathering on them and the deck /balcony breaking. Too scary. Water wrecks havoc on homes. So good for you getting that taken care of. I love the pink zinna photo. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  8. Never left the lights on in any vehicle myself, but it happens. We also upgraded to iPhones when our flip phones gave out and have not regretted the choice, and already looking forward to a new model at contract renewal in 2016. Enjoy your weekend, Cheryl.

  9. Oh, I know you'll love the phone. I did the same thing, I finally thought I'd make the leap into the iPhone also, and I'm so glad I did. Glad you found someone to work on your other place. Always makes a person feel good when you can see some improvements!

  13. I once left the lights on when I was parked on a tiny pier pointing out to the water for my friend and myself to see the view. We had a picnic and the weather was not great and we did not get out of the car. They when we finally wanted to leave - the car would not start. there was no one around, this was a very quiet sleepy place! eventually we found a kind man who went back to his house and brought his car and jump leads!! Phew!!! Love your sunsent shot.

  14. House projects seem to drag on FOREVER and a day. The truck thing is no big deal. I've forgotten things like that too. Having someone take care of it before your husband woke up was sweet, though. Have fun getting to know your new phone. Enjoy. You'll be amazed at the things it can do.

  17. Haven't left lights on either of our vehicles because they go off by themselves. You are going to LOVE your iPhone 6. I am on my 4th iPhone and I find them easy to use... I do call it "my smarter than me iPhone"... Ha! But my camera is smarter than me too and bosses me around. I am sorry I didn't get the iPhone Plus because the iPhone 6 was such a great improvement in readability and viewability that I am sure the Plus would have been, well, a PLUS! Enjoy your phone and congratulations finding someone to do work that actually show up to work!

  19. Congrats on the smart phone. Oh yes, I remember one time having to move my hubby's truck and I tapped the garage door!!!!! Wouldn't you know...when we sold that house, the inspector said, "it looks like something" hit the garage door! grrrrrrrr
    Have a wonderful new week.

  20. Luckily, even though my truck is 12 years old, it automatically turns off the lights when the door is opened. Phew.
So you have joined the dark side and gone to the smart phone? Hope you don't become addicted like friends of mine are.
Glad you are making headway on the house. Often those fixer upers are money pits. Looks like you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

  24. Hi Cheryl, that sunset photo is a keeper - you were probably so awed by the beauty you just saw that turning off the truck lights slipped your mind. I am trying to stop time because we often get frosts in mid-August in the mountains of CO. Since my garden is just now beginning to look great, I'd like to enjoy it for longer than that!

  28. My phone is still on the wall:) Just think about all the free time I get!! Good think you got the truck started and the battery charged up...the new fangled lights that turn on and off by themselves have me spoiled:)

  29. Enjoy playing with the phone. It's the thing I allow the charge to die on the most, but I have recently had a dead battery on the car. A door was left ajar. Since I was the passenger and it was the driver's door...I don't think it was my fault, but someone else thinks it was.
