It's so hot that the walking sticks are trying to find their way in where it's cooler.  We had quite a storm blow in Saturday night.  The lightning was wicked and the wind blew strong.  Lightning  caused a fire which destroyed a nice home in a nearby town.

I braved the heat yesterday and borrowed BG's truck...shhh, he still doesn't know...to run to the Big Town to get a tub surround for the bathroom at The Project.  It's exciting to see some progress being made again.  The men got the tub in and some work done on the floor.  The toilet is being moved to the other side of the room.  Some water lines were changed out for new ones.  I think they got a lot done in one day.

Isn't it marvelous the things we can do online to save time?  I have searched all of the big home improvement centers online for many of the things we've needed for that house.  It sure saves a lot of legwork.

Way back when I was a youngster, we were taught that saying bad words were a no no.  But, when I got aggravated or mad I just had to say something.  So my substitute for a bad word back then was peaches.  As in, "Oh, Peaches!"

I'm confessing here and now that I wanted to say lots of bad words when I found out that the blasted deer ate all of the peaches on my tree.  All. Of. Them.  It was loaded with peaches just about ready to pick.  The deer are always a step ahead of me.  Blasted. Deer.  I'm about to give up on vegetable gardens and fruit trees.  They also have snipped off quite a few strawberry plants.

The tree above is the peach tree and you might see the broken branch caused by the many peaches it was trying to support.  It will be pruned and we'll try again next year.  Maybe armed with some deer repellent or a net.

Rainie and Rambo are still here and growing like weeds.  They look so much alike that I now have to lift their tails to, ahem, see which one is the boy or girl.  Rambo is a real momma's boy.  He thinks my job is to hold him when he takes a nap.  Or to share my food when I'm eating or help me on the computer.  He follows me everywhere.  I want to find a home for them, but it will be hard to part with them.

Some sad news.  BG got word last night that an old army buddy of his had passed away.  Vic had been battling a cancerous brain tumor.  They were both in the 101st Airborne Division and served in Vietnam together.  We have been to some of the reunions the 101st has at Fort Campbell, KY.  Vic and his wife would often attend, too.  We've always kept in touch and it breaks our hearts that they had to go through this and Vic lost the battle.  Please say a prayer for Vic's wife and their children as they mourn the loss of their loved one.

Happy Tuesday to you!
xo Cheryl

  1. Yes it isalawaysvery sad when a buddy dies. Love your 2 cats. Ithink they are there to stay!!!.

  2. My sympathy in the loss of a treasured friend. My heart goes out to his family, as well.
The kittens are cute as can be. Really precious.
That is frustrating about the deer and the peaches. We don't have a garden or fruit trees but we have deer and rabbits that visit and nibble on our flowers.
I hope your project goes smoothly. Have a nice day.

  3. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. My thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
The photo of your little kitties is adorable. Easy to see why you have trouble telling them apart.
What a shame about your peaches. We had one peach tree and lost the harvest to squirrels each year. So disappointing to see them disappear overnight. This year we chopped the tree down and have been buying our peaches at the local stands. Makes me wonder how the farmer's get around this problem.

  4. Cheryl, Saying a prayer for Vic's family and BG. So sorry. I know what you are saying about cuss words. .I said plenty when I worked with the men at G.M.....but I have tried to stop..so now I say Hossenpheffers. Like Yosemity Sam. :):) I was saying, "son of a sea sailor" till Emma repeated that at her house. YIKES. Nana was in big trouble. :) My daughter used to look at her cherries ripening getting so ready for pie and the birds where more in tuned to the ripeness and beat her to them most every year. LOL. Deer are beautiful but destructive animals. Wishing you a great day.xoxo, Susie
p.s. hug your husband for all of us.

  5. I'll keep this family in my prayers too. The kittens are just the cutest! I'll show the pic to my hubby....he loves cats! Enjoy your day! Hugs!

  6. Prayers for your husband's friend and military buddy. Your kittens are so cute..they look like two peas in a pod to me.
Glad the reno is going well. Geesh, it is too hot, isn't it!!

  7. Busy times at your place...remodeling progress, kittens who are always busy, the peach-eating deer (blah)! Some busyness better than other. :)

I am sorry for the loss of your husband's friend. So hard. Saying a prayer for you and for the family...

  8. Sending prayers to the Military Family that lost a loved one.
Thank your husband for his service to our country !
Blasted deer anyway...hope you find something that deters them...they are real buggars and remember tasty treats and where they got them for years:(

  9. We have tons of deer here where I live, even some who come to drink out of our pond. I see some almost every single time I travel to town in one certain spot. Most folks around here resort to surrounding their gardens with electric fences to keep them away. That works well for a garden area but probably wouldn't be a good solution for a single tree. Good luck!

  10. So sorry to hear about some of these things.Losing a friend is hard, losing some peaches, maybe not quite as bad.It is frustrating to have the animals eat the fruit and veggies we wanted.

  11. I am so sorry about the loss of your husband's army buddy. Those service ties are as close as family. I will pray for his family.
Those kittens seemed joined. That is a cool shot. Hope you can find a home where they can go as a team.

  12. If that had happened to me, I surely would have said, DAYUM !!

  13. So sorry to hear about BG's Army buddy. That is a terrible battle to face. My prayers are with his family.

Those darn deer...they truly can be very destructive and aggravating. Tom did put out a deer repellant a couple years. But they still got to some of his plants..sad.. Can't imagine what it would be like to lose a whole trees worth!

  14. Deer are so destructive to fruit trees, we have too many deer and deer ticks to go along with them.
    Have ya tried deer mesh?
Sorry to hear of your husbands army buddy. My husband retired army and my son in law. Like a previous commenter said " those service ties are as close as family" for sure.

  15. Oh those deer! I've heard that nets work pretty well and tall fences. And yappy dogs. What a bummer, Cheryl. I'd be saying more than "peaches."

Oh those kittens. I have also heard that a brother and a sister make the best pet duos. They get along well together and grow old together, Do you have a sign up at the Vet's office with that picture? They are so adorable.

    Shhhh, yes, mum's the word.

    1. I am sorry for the loss of your husband's friend. Those who have served together have an incredible bond.

  16. Adorable kittens . . .
Sad about the death of your husband friend . .

  17. saying goodbye to a friend is never easy. sad for your husband's loss. Rainie and Rambo are too cute. LOVE them to pieces. That walking stick photo is priceless.

  18. the kittens are adorable! we both have a gorgeous Rambo! sorry to hear that you didn't get a few of the peaches. I'm sure the deer are grateful for you sharing, wildlife need food too. :)
the news of your husband's old friend is so sad. my son just found out that a childhood friend was found dead from overdose in FL.
    hope you enjoy your day!!

  19. Sorry to hear of the loss of that home through lightning, I am always concerned about this when we have an electrical storm.
It has been a long hot summer for us too, with temps breaking records!

So looking forward to the finished bathroom project, I bet you doubled checked this time. I would give it six months before telling him!~smile~

Oh! how I can relate to deer eating fruits and veggies. They have eaten most of my apples this year the only ones left are at the top of the tree, looks like I will be visiting our farmers market. ~smile~ imagine a farmer buying produce. I do believe in supporting local farmers!
Rainie and Rambo are adorable, and the do look identical!

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of the friend!

Thanks for the comment on the vodka, we have to either go to the next county to buy, or find someone else get our alcohol for us, dh doesn't drink alcohol and his friends know this!LOl.
    Have a great day.
    Hugs from me,

  20. Oh man...sorry about those peaches! That had to break your heart. Those black kitties are absolutely beautiful :)

  21. I am so sad about your peaches. What a disappointment. I think the doe and her 2 fawn have left their 'nest' in the woods near the apartment. I haven't seen them in days.

  22. Rainie and Rambo are so cute...and they sure do look a lot alike! Your bathroom reno sounds like it's moving along nicely.

I feel so bad for people who lose their homes because of a natural disaster. And I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband's army friend!

  23. Prayers for your husband's friend. That is just a shame about the peaches! Dang deer!!!!

  24. I hate to hear of BG's friend....I am sure it probably hit BG pretty hard, too.

    Rainie and Rambo are darlings...

I wonder what work to scare the deer away...at the orchard they use to eat so many of the Gala apples...or take a bite out of this one and that one. Then after a time, it just stopped. The last few years I worked there, I never seen a single apple touched by the deer!

  25. all the black kittens have been caught ... that is too priceless!! ( :
i had heard one of the Tuskegee air men had past away in our VA area. it sounds like a lot of good folks are passing. so sad. loss is so tough. lots of prayers.

  26. I am so sorry about your friend. Hug B

  27. I'm sorry to hear of your friend, Vic.
I haven't seen a walking stick in so many years, maybe we don't have them here!
And shame on those deer, what a disappointment.

  28. Oh my I do know how you feel about the deer getting into the garden and fruit trees. When we lived in Spokane, WA we had that problem. We don't have it here; but there are other critters that get to my stuff. Especially my strawberry's get hit by the birds. We do get some out of our patch; but the birds get more. Next year we will get a screen thing to put over it.
The internet is great for searching things. My husband loves to surf while we watch TV. I keep telling him I don't know how he does that and enjoys the movie.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of a good friend. I will send a prayer their way and yours.
The picture of those two kittens is so adorable. It will be hard to give them away.
    Sending hugs your way!
