I snapped a few of my flowers while watering yesterday. The flowers above are one of 4 pots of the bargain table flowers that I bought for only 9 dollars. I had planted them hoping some might survive, but they have all done quite well.
I'm excited to see my hydrangea blooming this year. I haven't had much luck with them, but I planted this one on the north side of the house and I'm hoping it will be happy there.
The Stella's have done well and are bright and cheery in the gardens.
This rose is what is left of several that were here when we moved to this house 28 years ago. I don't know what kind it is except it's not a tea rose. Maybe a shrub type? You can't see them, but on either side are my hostas along with the hydrangea.
This is one of two boxes of vincas that are on either side of the door to the storage building that sits on one end of our patio in back. They always do well for me and they are also some of my bargain flowers. I have so many pots to fill that I watch for those good deals!
The heat continues for my area. It's so hot that I don't stay outside long. The watering of flowers will have to be done this evening. I cleaned out my refrigerator this morning and did a few chores. After I hit the publish button on this post, the vacuum will come out and I will give the house a quick cleaning. Then a run to the store for a few items.
Our son is coming home for the weekend. He will be helping BG do a few things downstairs. I don't really like to heat up the house by turning on the oven, but I think I'll make some lasagna for our supper. That sounds good to me. Tomorrow, we can keep the heat outside where it belongs and grill. I am hungry for a pasta salad so that will also be on the menu for tomorrow, too. I have a few zucchini and I can't decide whether to put some in the salad or cut lengthwise and put on the grill. Do you have a favorite pasta salad?
Many thanks to each of you who left such sweet comments about the passing of the little kitten. I know many of you are animal lovers, too, and share my sorrow.
Happy Friday to you!
xo Cheryl
they are wonderful. I love stunning Stella and the mixed group is gorgeous. the Hydrangea looks healthy to me. the only pasta salad I make is bob's favorite, tuna/macaroni/onions/mayo.... i take mine out because i don't eat onions. i do love bowties but have never made one. i cook the bowties with small chunks of chicken, dump in frozen peas and drain and add mayo...
ReplyDeleteCheryl, your flowers are doing beautifully in the heat there this summer. I love all the colours. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello Cheryl, your flowers are all looking lovely. The hydrangea is beautiful. And I love the Vincas. I would like to find a good pasta salad too, maybe with shrimp? Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteConsidering the heat you have had, all your flowers are doing beautifully. So pretty, each and every one. Enjoy your son's visit. Lasagna for supper sounds yummy. I love pasta salad too. Particularly one with spaghetti, cucumbers, tomatoes, pepper and scallions, mixed with some Italian dressing. Just shouts summer to me. I bet yours is good too. Have a wonderful weekend. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteYou have such beautiful flowers! Sorry for the unbearable heat that you've had.... even though it seems that the flowers are loving it :)
I too planted a hydrangea on the N. side of our house. So far, it's doing ok. It's my first hydrangea, and it looks like it just might blossom this summer.....**fingers crossed**!
Enjoy your time with you son, and keep cool if you can :)

p.s Oh, my favorite pasta salad is one that I got out of an old ward cookbook. It has dried cranberries in, chicken, cashews, grapes, pasta, etc.. and the dressing is a green goddess dressing. Sounds strange, but believe me.. everyone always polishes it off :) I think it is originally a Pampered Chef recipe.
I have been enjoying way too much pasta salad since trying the one from Estelle's. The I tried PW's. Yup way too much pasta salad. Both of these are in my Pinterest salad folder. I will be firing up the furnace tonight for the first time in several weeks...it is in the 70s and will feel good. Wish that it were going to be lasagna! Your flowers are very pretty and very happy! Have a wonderful weekend with your son at home.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers all look beautiful. They seem to be thriving despite your heat. We have had so much rain here, but it has now decided to heat up. Have a wonderful weekend, sweet friend. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are pretty. I sprinkle in some McCormick Salad Supreme Seasoning in my pasta salad. Here is a link to it...http://www.amazon.com/McCormick-Salad-Supreme-Seasoning-2-62/dp/B000V8DHGA
ReplyDeleteWhen I make it people ask what do I put in my pasta salad to make it taste so good and I tell them about McCormick Salad Supreme.
Your flowers are all so beautiful, Cheryl. Today started the first really hot day we've had here all summer, so far. Today and tomorrow, the heat index could reach 109. I ran to the grocery store this morning while the heat wasn't too bad and now I'm staying in and doing some housework, doing some laundry, and making a cucumber salad and brownies to take to my cousin's house tomorrow. Yes, unfortunately I had to turn on the oven for those brownies. But while the oven was on, I went into another room. Good thing for AC! I was a little behind on reading your blog, so I didn't know about the kitten. Just saw the post. How heartbreaking - I am so sorry. She was beautiful. Blessings to you and your husband for trying to save her. You did all you could. {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful!!!! Love your flowers Cheryl, Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl~
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful pots, and your flower's around your house, they are just gorgeous! I'm so sorry you are getting so much heat and humidity, I hope you get some reprieve soon. We are having a cold spell, we have had cool, or should I just say that the temps have been in the low 80's and upper 70's for the last week, with rain showers and wind. It has been kind of nice, but I can feel summer slipping away . . . :0(
I cried reading your post on the sweet little kitten. I am a softie too, and unfortunately, I have had to deal with so many little friends being sick and have had to put them to sleep. My daughter's son had a little dachshund that hurt his back and he lost the use of his hind legs. They tried so hard to help him, but it was an impossible task. They eventually, for his benefit, had to put him to sleep, and it was very traumatic for everyone, but it was also a blessing in teaching everyone compassion, and about doing the best thing, even though it was hard. Thank goodness your husband found Little One, and you could give her the love that she needed.
Have a good week-end!
Hugs,
Barb
Cheryl, Your flowers are beautiful. Love the bargain group. Hope you enjoy your son being home with all of you. Get hugs. I love when we grill out when it's too hot to cook inside. But this weekend is to be 100 heat index. Too hot to cook anything. LOL Stay hydrated. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers! Love that pink rose. I don't have a hydrangea but should get one. I do love them. Mom's was on the northeast end of the house and it was always pretty.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so colorful and pretty. Vinca always do well for me too. The rose is gorgeous. Have a nice time with your son tomorrow. Grilling out sounds like a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are gorgeous. Yes,try to keep the house as cool as possible.
ReplyDeleteI love to see your beautiful flowers, Cheryl!! They are always so lovely and your photos are so good! Yep... it has hit the "keep it cool" time of cooking! Have a wonderful weekend. Ha! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeletebeautiful colors. sorry about the sweet little one.
ReplyDeleteWow...sounds like your bargain flowers paid off for you!! Lovely photos! I especially love the hydrangea. They just say "summer" to me.
ReplyDeleteStay cool...
Oh Cheryl your flowers are amazingly beautiful! I love those bargain ones too. I'll have to try and check out the ones we bought a couple weeks ago! Hopefully with all this rain and heat they are doing well too. The lasagna sounds so yummy. I want to come and visit today!! I do have several favorite salads, I can't remember the name of my favorite...but it has shredded cabbage, ramaen noodles in it, I will look it up and share it on my blog.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your son..try to stay cool.
Gert
Really pretty and full of summer color. Are Stellas the same as daylilies? I practically live on a cold pasta salad in the summertime!
ReplyDeleteLove that first arrangement. Vinca is my go to plant. Like you, I have great success with them. Glad your hubby will have some help with those chores. It is just too hot these days even with A/C to do any cooking.
ReplyDeletei love it when you share your blooms. so pretty. it has turned real hot & humid in time for the weekend. i was so spoiled with the less humidity it was a real blast. still hot but the humidity is the terrible part. i think i am part Italian because i love anything pasta ... i love it when my mom makes pasta salad with burgers or anything really. it is usually peppers of many colors, tomatoes, onions, i know she puts some mayo, mustard, i think some lemon juice to keep it from browning ... & i wonder what else? i would have to ask. you stay cool. i hope to see this blooms or even others again real soon. have a nice weekend. take care. lots of hugs!!! ReplyDeleteThey are all just beautiful. it's been so hot here, our flowers in containers are struggling, even with daily watering.
ReplyDeleteI used to make a pasta salad that our girls loved. Shell pasta cooked then sliced eggs, green onion and shrimp. Miracle Whip, a little mustard, thinned with half and half and some hickory salt. I also like one with cooked pasta, frozen peas, green onion and tuna...dressed with Miracle Whip and a bit of fresh ground pepper. I have a request this week for Potato Salad for fifty...so that takes the better part of one of my days:)
ReplyDeleteWow, I loved the shots of your flowers; just beautiful. I hope you have great time with our son. Your menu sounds so yummy. We did get one zucchini from our small garden and tomatoes. I am looking forward to more Zucchini, squash and peppers; then I will do some pasta dishes. At least your post made me think about doing fresh veggies with pasta.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Your flowers look beautiful! We are fighting spider mites and Japanese beetles. I think the spider mites have killed our beautiful junipers in front of the front porch. Enjoy your visit with your son!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers wish I had a green thumb.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are all very beautiful, Cheryl! I have flower envy! We can't grow much here as the critters eat everything. I had to chase awaya deer out of my yard today that was chowing down on a wild rose bush, thorns and all. I have in my yard. There are plenty of wildflowers in the meadows but the deer still like to munch in my backyard...sigh!
ReplyDeleteAll your blooms are so beautiful and colorful, Cheryl, which shows you have a talent for making them grow. I just read the previous post about the kitten and wanted to say that you and BG did your best to comfort and help, but sometimes things don't turn out as we hope they will. That kitten surely knew it was cared for in its time of need.
