Are You A Morning Person?

You've probably heard the saying "I'd like mornings better if they started later".  Or, "I can rise and shine, just not at the same time".  I have to admit that I'm not a morning person.  Of course, I'm grateful that I can crawl out of bed and begin a new day...I just would like it better if that day started later as the saying goes.

First on the agenda is to feed the kitties and make sure they have fresh water, clean the litter boxes and then I make the bed.  Disinfect all the counter tops where the kitties have probably partied the night before, then run the vacuum.  Water the flowers if I didn't get them done the evening before.  Pull some weeds and see what needs gathering out of the garden.  Right now, tomatoes are about the only thing left in ours.  Maybe a few zucchinis.

Then, stop and rest a while on the patio and watch the birds.  I don't shower until I'm finished with any outside chores.  All the while hoping someone doesn't pop by and catch me looking like I just crawled out of bed.  After showering and drying my hair, it is usually close to lunchtime and I often read the news headlines and some blogs while eating lunch.

I usually look at the clock sometime during the mornings that Pioneer Woman's cooking show is on and think, oops, I forgot to DVD her show again.  It is one of the few I watch.  I love seeing what's happening on her beautiful ranch besides finding a new recipe.  Maybe it's because I was raised on a farm where there were wide open spaces and horses and cattle.

Some of those above mentioned chores are a must do and some aren't.  The vacuuming can slide by another day.  The bed will still be there ready for another night's sleep whether it is made up or not.  Although, personally, I can tolerate a little bit of dust before I can look at an unmade bed, but that is just me.

Sometimes the computer begs to be turned on while I'm drinking that cup of coffee and an hour or two goes by before I know it.  And I didn't take into account the phone ringing or any one of a hundred other things that can interrupt a morning.  I also didn't mention a morning walk or stretching exercises, both of which I need to get back into the habit of doing.

Most of us have some sort of morning routine, don't we?  Tell me about yours.  Do you crawl reluctantly out of bed in the morning or do your feet hit the ground practically running?  And I don't mean running to the bathroom!  What's a must-do in your morning routine?  We won't talk about the afternoons yet, I'm already worn out.  :)  And if you've made it this far, I'll send you a slice of zucchini bread to go with your morning coffee!

Happy Monday to you!
xo Cheryl

  2. I'm up and ready for my zucchini bread! lol
I am a morning person. I go to bed early and look so forward to my coffee, that I hop right out of bed (that and the fact that a cat may be standing on my bladder!!!) I enjoy blogs with morning coffee, and like you I have kitty cat chores first thing. I often weed or water the flowers before showering and yes, my neighbors have seen me with bed hair! We often go out for a late lunch and then just eat light at night.

  3. I am a morning person and that is when I get most of my work done. I start by doing my devotions. I will pick up clutter, make the bed (I am not opposed to leaving it unmade), take my shower and get dressed. I try to sit on my balcony most mornings in the sunshine before it gets too hot. Trying to soak up that Vit. D. All of us (except those in the DEEP South) do not get enough Vitamin D so I try. At sometime in the A.M. I get on the computer and check out what's on blogland. Can't miss that.

  4. I enjoy mornings with my blogs and coffee. I too do my chores in my p.j.s or whatever it is I slept in...then take a shower. I love Pioneer Woman too. That is one of the few shows during the day I will try to watch. Have a good day.

  5. I am totally a morning person --even worse -- one of those cheerful ones. Had to laugh at your not wanting to get caught early in the morning. Like you, that is when I do my chores and don't get presentable till after they are done. I dread getting caught looking like that.

    So my day begins . . .

  7. since the day I was born I have been and early bird. it has effected my life when in school.. after 1 pm my mind shuts down. any studying or any work at all needs to be completed by lunch time. my first marriage was miserable because i married a night owl and had two night owl sons.. but the last 30 years i have been married to early bird Bob and all is well... I am with you on the dust and bed... the first thing I do when we get out of bed at 5 am, 365 days a year, is make up the kingsize bed. i can't stand walking in the bedroom and seeing it not made... i think the majority of the world is not early bird material...i much prefer going out to breakfast over going out to dinner. when we eat out we eat lunch out and have not been out to dinner in about 15 years

  8. Sigh. What a beautiful little bluebird. And yes, I am a real 'morning person.' Up at 5 and love the early morning. Only problem with that is that if I try to watch a movie at night, I usually fall asleep within the first half hour. LOL

  9. i thank my animals for giving me a morning routine. i have to get up usually between 4:30 and 5:30 and let a few dogs out. by sun-up, the horses are ready to be fed and the whistling ducks are arriving with their whistles that tell me to get a move-on. so i let out whatever dogs may have stayed sleeping in the house and we all trundle out to the barn, then the bird feeders, then back to the house for berries, water and coffee for me, dog food for the pups. then it is blog-reading time until i've had sufficient coffee, eat something more substantial, then head out onto the driveway for an hour's walk/run. shower, then whatever's next.

  10. Great post! I guess we all have our own little routines, don't we??!!
I am most definitely an early bird.
To my way of thinking, mornings are the most peaceful, and beautiful time of the day.

Every day is a bit different, but I like to have a neat and tidy home, so there is always some cleaning to do.
I also like to wash all the bedding each Monday, and plan out the weeks menus.
Doing something creative each day as well.

May your week be a pleasant one.

    K.

  11. I am up early now that we have chickens. I open their cage and watch them play while I have a cup of coffee. It's always a nice feeling to see the sun come up, it puts me in a good mood. My chores are like yours, then I shower and watch some cooking show I've taped if I have time. It's a good life. Thanks for sharing a day in your life. New Follower.
    Hugs,
    Jody

  12. I am NOT a morning person! I am up early or more like up late and never get to sleep. I am up but I don't hit my stride till after lunch. My morning routine starts around 5 or 6 with commenting on blogs, checking fb, Instagram, looking at Tinykittens kitten cam, and checking my mail. Bowl of bran at 8 and back to reading blogs and puter stuff till 10am. Get cleaned up and start the day.. pick up the house, hit the high spots while CH goes to the golf course. I used to walk under the shade of the oaks but I have not been good about that in about a year. CH does all the outside garden work. Love your pictures this morning.. love those kitties! Mr. Bluebird isn't bad either.. :) GOOD MORNING Cheryl!

  13. I guess you could call me an early bird AND a night owl. You will rarely find me going to bed before 11 PM, which is my normal time. But no matter what, I am up at 5, sometimes a bit before...whether it is a work day, or the weekend....I just can't help it. Believe me, I have tried to sleep in. If I can manage to roll back over and get a few more winks in an sleep 'til 5:30 or 6, then I have accomplished something! I never have required much sleep as long as I can remember. My morning routine of course differs if it is a workday or not but it always starts very early, always includes an early breakfast including my one and only cup of coffee for the day, and when my hubby is working, a trip outside with the "boys" so they can do their business :)

  14. i have moments where i love the morning & other where i just am so groggy. it has started happening since i have gotten into my later 30's. when i was younger i would wake up & be rolling to go. i don't do coffee much ... but love it for fun. i don't have a real morning routine unless i have to go some where or do something. have a great week, Cheryl ... you rock with those cool blooms. i am loving the beauty!! thanks, for sharing. 15. You're making me think...there have been times when I am a morning person; I've slipped lately. Since I am the last up, I make the bed since I like it fresh and nice for getting back into, hopefully not until ten or eleven; however, I have slipped and may return for a nap after lunch. Then my chores look a lot like yours right down to showering and dressing late morning.

  17. NO I'm not a morning person. There are jokes about me circulating about me not being a morning person. however, I'm not that bad. Truthfully, I have four good hours a day. 10a.m to 2 p.m. If only I could find a job that fit those hours.

  18. Oh, yes. I am definitely a morning person. Bedtime here on the farm means an hour of tv from 9 to 10 (I watch "The Middle" on the Hallmark Channel.) Lights out at 10. The rooster starts around 5 a.m., and I firmly believe in schedules for almost everything so I can get all the work done.

  19. I am most certainly a morning person. I get up,shower, have my breakfast and then its off to have my devotions and get some exercise. After that the day is mine to use as I wish.Much of it is spent at the computer or with my camera. By 10pm,I am ready to head off to bed. What an exciting life! Or not.

  21. Oh no..I am a night owl and mornings that I have to set the alarrm, really suck. I like to get up about 10 or maybe 11, have breakfast, deal with the mail and any phone messages, read blogs and plan the rest of my day:)

  22. Your cone flowers are stunning!! Gorgeous! And I love the plants in that cheerful pretty blue pot. I am definitely a night owl!! Have been all my life! I just feel bad in the morning to the point where I can get sick. I think people like me are born this way. God makes people all different kinds. I sleep past noon because I CAN, and am up till at least 2 A.M. I love reading about your day!! What a great idea, I may do the same! The cats get on our counters, too. and I don't have the energy to commit to making them not.

  24. This was a really fun one. Well, I like you am not a morning person. However, I do try to get up somewhat early. My husband works at home so he is up very early. I get up and usually fix him something to eat. I always make my bed and do any dishes first off. If that is done; I am happy. I like to read scriptures and other books so I usually do that in the morning. I throw in a load of laundry and then I go through my emails and etc. I try to be done by around noon.
I must tell you that your pictures are so lovely. The flowers are beautiful and your kitten is so adorable.
    Blessings for this one!

  26. i'm a morning person once i crawl out of bed lol...i love the quiet of the mornings before everyone else is up. when school starts back up, i set my alarm an hour and a half earlier than the rest of the house so i can have my coffee in the quiet, visit some blogs, read emails...then jump into the routine of getting everyone up and out to school/work!

  27. I'll be expecting that slice of bread!!
I am not a morning person. My morning routine is tea and breakfast, devotions with my hubby, then whatever I have planned for the day from there. And I definitely have to have the bed made!!

  28. Like my Portulacas and Puslanes, who are wide awake by 8:30 am, I tend to get up around 7am, after only 5 or 6 hours of sleep, although I'd welcome more! After 45 years of being a strictly tea sipping gal, I now only crave coffee, a strong brew, to boot, first thing in the morning, usually accompanied by a homemade muffin or slice of lemon loaf, which I nibble on while checking my email, visits from fellow bloggers, or catching up on the news around the world, as well as Facebook posts from friends and family. I tend to post well after 2am, most times, since the better part of my day is taken up by cooking, cleaning, gardening and swimming/reading by the pool, in the summer. Dinner is late here, in the Med, around 8:30, when the breeze picks up and the sun has set, so by the time we're finished with that, it's already 10 pm, or so, at which time, I may start to edit pics I've taken during the day, and hopefully be inspired to write something!

Enjoyed reading about your routine. I'll have a small slice of that zucchini bread, as not to delete all the potential effects of those laps!;))

P.S. Both your cone flowers and your kitty are TOO cute!

  29. I'm not a morning person--in fact, I worked nights for many years and enjoyed it! I like to stay up late and get extra energy at night, but since I now watch my toddler granddaughter during the day I have become worn out and fall asleep after dinner on the couch--lol!

  30. Hi Cheryl~

I've always been a night owl, therefore, mornings were always my least favorite thing! I had to get up at 6:00 a.m. when I was working and getting children off to school, but it was not my favorite time of day! My husband, for years, was up at 4:00 a.m., and out the door by 4:30 - I'm not sure how he ever survived it!

I sure wish I had a schedule! I used to until my husband retired, that really threw a wrench into my schedule...in a good way! I still like to get up, putter around, eat breakfast, clean-up, watch a little TV, vacuum, a little of this, and a little of that. Before I know it, my day is gone, and it's time for bed again. Life certainly just keeps keeping on!

Zucchini bread sounds delightful! I've only gotten a few small Zucchini out of my garden, and we have loved every one of them! Maybe I will beg for one from my neighbor, who has a lovely Zucchini plant in his garden!

Your park pictures are gorgeous - what a fun bridge, who would have thought that it was a train car! Your daughter is very beautiful - I can tell she looks like her mama!

    Have a great day!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  32. It was fun reading not only your post, Cheryl, but all the replies. I am a morning person as well and find I can get the most stiff done earlier in the day. My routine did include going to the local Y nearly 4-5X a week, but started to cut down now as more yard and outside stuff to do in summer. Bedtime is usually by 11 pm with a book in hand.
