Good Fences

This is one of my drive-by shots so I didn't have time to get much of the fence as I was mostly interested in the beautiful gate.  The fence, gate, and landscaping are all pretty new.  I would love this sort of gate that you have to key in to enter if I still lived in the country.

I remember so well at our former home that we often had strangers driving up to our house asking for directions.  Fortunately, our German Shepherd, Baron, would greet the callers and most didn't try to get out of their vehicle.  :)  I wasn't worried being alone in the country with him by my side.

Baron loved to jump fences, but one almost did him in.  He went missing a couple of days and we searched for him and found him hung up in a neighbor's fence that ran through the woods.  His leg was torn up pretty bad, but with lots of Epsom salt soaks and TLC he healed up nicely and lived to a ripe old age.

Happy Thursday to you!

  1. If you have a big fancy gate, it can be an invitation to criminals. But a big barking dog is the answer! They will move on to other targets. What a scary story, it is so good you found him in time!

  4. i would love to have a 12 foot high fence with an electric gate all the way around the property... poor Baron, so glad you went looking for him... we have people knocking on our doors trying to sell security alarms, hubby goes out the garage door and twice he has said don't you hear our alarms? the dogs go beserk the minute a stranger walks on the property....

I love gates too, Cheryl, but a good dog is worth it's weight in gold for sure.

  13. That is a lovely gate. The fence though probably wouldn't keep people from walking through.
So happy that Baron's mishap had a happy ending. Strange that the neighbors wouldn't have found him and notified you.

    1. He was in a fence pretty far from anyone's house in the rural area we lived in. The strangest thing was that we never ever hear him bark. We thought surely we would have heard him although it was quite a distance sounds carry in the country, especially at night.

  15. Oh my goodness, poor Baron. So glad you kept looking. I came upon a doe once hung up on a barbed wire fence. Probably wasn't right but I cut the fence to free her. I left a note for the farmer but never heard back. Guess he wan't too mad.

  20. That's a lovely property. I suppose that the world is getting to the place where it is wise to be wary. A German Shepherd would do the trick!

    1. We did get another GS and he lived with us many years. It's hard to have a dog here because of the busy street, without keeping them in a pen, so we haven't had a dog for a while now. I miss them!

  25. A beautiful drive-by photo and a victorious story! Baron was one blessed boy. I enjoyed reading about him! Country dogs all have stories; Lucky the farm dog had an encounter with a coyote trap two years ago and with a skunk last year ---- and the Lord got him out of both messes. We're grateful every day.
