The Weekend

We had a perfectly beautiful weekend with sunny skies and nice temps.  It was a productive weekend as we got the garden planted except for this part that you can see above.  I'll plant my zinnias and sunflowers there.

The birds were busily singing away as they went about doing whatever birds do.  Or possibly they were trying to tell us to turn off the tiller because we were disturbing them.

Most of the flower pots are now planted.  I even took apart an old fire pit and spray painted the base and had BG drill some holes in the bottom for drainage and planted flowers in it.  I love repurposing things.  I'll show it later when the flowers have grown a bit more.  Several other pots are in need of a little spray paint to spruce them up, but it might be a few days before I get all that done.  My muscles are aching today and my right hand will barely make a fist from all the work I'm not accustomed to doing after a long, lazy winter!

I also have a nice sunburn going on after being outside most of the weekend, too.  Ouch!  I'll be sure to pick up some suntan lotion when I run to the store later today.  I have BG's truck today to get some mulch and a few other things we need.  I hate to waste a pretty afternoon when I could be napping shopping, but it's one of those jobs that needs to be done.

Our son came in Saturday evening and I fried up a batch of mushrooms that were given to us.  Yummy!  We have only found 2 around our place.  Do you like morel mushrooms?  They are a real treat for us that we all look forward to every spring.

It's time for me to hop in the truck and go shopping.  No, I'm not moving very fast today but I'll get it done.  I plan to just sit on the patio with some fast food for supper and relax when I get home!  What will you be doing today?  Hope it's a good one!

Until next time...
xoxo  Cheryl

  3. Don't push too hard, Cheryl! You weekend warriors scare me. Everything is looking so pretty, though, and it will be wonderful this summer when you're lying in your hammock with an iced tea and a good book. Right?!

  4. What a great garden plot you have Cheryl. Will you plant lots of vegetables in it? I hear the bluebirds are back here as well as the swallows. It was not warm enough to go sleeveless here on the weekend. Saturday was nice but Sunday was cold and wet. The fried mushrooms look delicious. I haven't had morels before but if they're fried they must be good! :) Yard work is hard work. Oh my. I'm sore all over too! Take care. Pam

  21. I thought those were mushrooms! I love them and I've had a few meals this spring, so delicious. I did find out last week, the 5 year old grand daughter can pull them off the serving platter very quickly! Almost faster than me!

    1. The robins are one of the first signs of spring and I know when I see several in the yard that spring is surely on it's way! Thanks for visiting, Stewart!

  23. Lovely to see tour garden, look forward to seeing the flower bed when the Zinnias and sunflowers are in bloom. and don't forget to show us the fire pit you spray painted. I'm still way behind in planting up my summer troughs and baskets. But as we 've been getting some frost over night maybe that's not such a bad thing. The frost nipped the tops on some of the tomato plants.

  24. We also did some yard work over the weekend, but not as much you you and BG. Besides cutting the front yard, while Grenville used the tractor on the back lot, I planted annuals in several pots around the back patio and front porch. I used to plant them along the front yard, but thankfully day lilies and other returning flowers have made that chore a thing of the past. As much as I enjoy planting, I dislike daily watering, so ones in pots are a bit easier to tend. We have a robin nest in our front tree and the young are growing so fast and great photo subjects for me.

  26. I'm with you on the shopping, I always have to force myself to go. Even though you are sore, it's great to get so much done isn't it? I know how you feel, my arms are so sore from the yard work I did over the weekend. Everything looks awesome!
