A white barn with a quilt block is this week's offering. The
block is a 9 Patch and was the pattern of the first quilt the
wife made when she first began quilting.
This photo was taken the second day of July and you can see how brown
the grass was then. We're on day 17 of 100 degrees or more temperatures
for this year. The tv weatherperson said tonight that in 1936 there were
44 days of 100 or more degrees for this area. Can you
imagine living through that with no air conditioning?
To see some really great barns around the country,
head on over to Tricia's Barn Charm.
Until next time...
we had 71 here last summer of 100 or over - but, yes, we're better equipped than most of the midwest for such insanity!
ReplyDeletei love this sweet barn and quilt block!
You are talking some serious heat. But that barn with the quilt is so beautiful! You have some really beautiful barns there. sandie

ReplyDeleteLove the barn, Cheryl! I've looked all over for a quilt pattern on a barn and have had no luck, so congrats on finding one.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to let you know that I've nominated your blog for the One Lovely Blog and the Very Inspiring Blogger Awards! You can see my post about it over at http://crankypuppy.blogspot.com/2012/07/blog-awards.html. I hope you'll accept!
That is a lot of heat! I love the quilt block on the barn. Nice capture!
ReplyDeleteWe finally got a little break from the heat - but still in the 90s. Love that barn and the quilt block is wonderful. I am still searching for one...another road trip, I think!
ReplyDeleteI like quilt barns very much! One of the last things Dh said to me last night was "I don't know how folks long ago made it without AC". Though we have high temps. we have had some relief with rain, I pray you will soon get some relief from the drought and temps.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day.
Blessings,
Sue
i did it as a kid for years. i still remember when friends would come over & would freak out because we had no air ... we had fans, windows, ceiling fans, when you got a breeze blowing it was all good. i never thought of it ... it was the normal way of things.
ReplyDeletegreat barn. love the roof line. (:
I feel your pain. We had over 70 days over 100 last year... and no rain. It was brutal. We've been blessed with some rain (though still behind the "norm") and cooler temps this summer. We still get those 100+ days, but only a few in a row. I'm wishing for you a cooling rain and gentle breezes. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteoh this is a great barn cheryl.
ReplyDeletei dream of standing in the center and looking up!!
Great barn, and great barn quilt!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!
Sorry to hear about the blistering heat that you are having.
Much of the country is experiencing record breaking heat this summer.... sheesh... won't we all be glad when Autumn gets here?!
Smiles :)
Kerin
I love your quilt block barns. The grass does look dry doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteWe have hardly mowed ours all summer, it is just not growing.
Another cared-for barn. Lovely...
ReplyDelete"I want to have a little house with sunshine on the floor,
A chimney with a rosy hearth, and lilacs by the door;
With windows looking East and West, And a crooked apple tree,
And room beside the garden fence for hollyhocks to be!"
~Nancy Bird Turner
such a pretty barn and i like that quilt pattern, so sorry you are suffering from all the heat. down here in FL we still have the drought, but our heat has stayed below 100 whichis our normal summer and we are more used to it. the weather is wild
ReplyDeletewow, 44 days, and they were such hard workers too! hope your heat wave doesn't last that long!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice barn find. I was trying not to complain too much during our three digit spell, by thinking of how folks made it without air conditioning. May you get relief soon.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I like the way they have a monochrome quilt on their white barn.
ReplyDeleteLovely barn and barn quilt. I always like seeing barns with quilts. We have a few here in Minnesota
ReplyDeleteNo, ma'am, I can not imagine the suffering back then with no a/c... I'm already sick of the heat, now, with a/c... we've had lil bits of rain here & there, but nothing substantial... it needs to rain for a week & I keep praying for it where it's needed.
ReplyDeleteFantastic barn & barn quilt... thanks for joining, Cheryl! =)
That's a huge barn. Great quilt design. We have the same temps here in eastern Iowa. Please send rain.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love barns with quilt patches! Nice catch!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I've seen one quite like that before! I like it!
ReplyDeleteAwww, you guys need some relief...some rain with a cooling high behind it.
ReplyDeleteThe barn quilts you show are wonderful. I'd like to try duplicating that one IF I could figure out the easy way.
Lovely, well-kept barn, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteLiving in a 100+ year old house, it's easy for me to imagine what it must have been like back in those days. We really have no right to complain. But we do anyway. Lol.
I also wonder about the pioneers here in the St. George, Utah area. Those long skirts and no air conditioning. I would have died, literally! Awesome barn!
ReplyDeleteI just love old barns. There used to be a round barn near where we lived in central Michigan when my kids were young. I called it the "Muffin" barn.
ReplyDeleteHugs, GraceinAZ (Pat)
I remember going to school in Florida and living quite all right without A/C. Pretty sure it helped that we didn't know better and were more acclimated to it.
ReplyDeleteI feel so badly for the homeless people, those who work outside and the animals. It is 101 right now.
Love this Barn! Hope and pray you get some relief soon.
ReplyDeleteThat barn is a beauty even without the quilt square, but I love what it adds!
ReplyDeleteIt's been so hot here too. Today the weatherman said it was supposed to be cooler and them said the high would be 89. It struck me funny that cooler was still almost 90.
Love it! Sorry to hear about the ongoing heat. We finally got relief - I hope you do as well....soon!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful barn...and no, cannot imagine liveing without AC...but think about what it was like every day.
ReplyDeleteI love these quilt barns!! I can't imagine living through that kind of heat without AC, but everyone did back then. We are so spoiled these days! It has been really hot, but we have not had much humidity this summer, so I am actually handling the weather better than I normally do. It's the high humidity that really gets to me, more than the intense heat.
ReplyDeleteI like - like quilt barns SO MUCH!
ReplyDeleteDon't get to see barns like this around here..thanks for sharing..
HUgs.. for cooler days ahead..I pray..
THANK God for air conditioning. Love the quilt barn. Haven't seen any around here. take care.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful barn Cheryl and you did great finding one with a quilt!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful barn. I love the quilt square. Growing up my parent's bedroom was the only room that had air conditioning and we would all sleep in there on the floor, without air mattresses! It would get so hot in our house in Queens, NY and there was hardly any breezes coming in the windows. Very thankful for our central A/C we have now!
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty barn! how is your kitten doing? wishing you some better weather. :)
ReplyDeleteBarn charm greats...I also think Hard Work Farm when I see a barn.
