Gotcha!

Caught him!  I've been waiting for him and wondering when he would make his appearance this snowy winter at the feeder.  Mr. Squirrel must have had quite a stash hoarded away this winter because he looks very healthy after this long, cold snowy spell we've had.  Maybe his cupboards are empty or just maybe the idea of corn appealed to him or maybe the snow was just too deep to scamper across, but he finally made it over from his nest high in the trees.

From the looks of the feeder, it didn't take him long to empty it up and start on the leftover crumbs on the snow below.  I look at these photos and think "cute".   My hubby looks at them and thinks "dinner".  Ever had chicken-fried squirrel?  It's pretty good, actually.  But I don't think this particular one has to worry about frying pans.  Not if I have anything to say about it!

  1. You are playing with that camera again Cheryl. Good for you! I love the brown/red squirrels. I don't know why, we just enjoy them more than the grays. To WATCH, not EAT!

  2. We have a lot of big, fat gray squirrels here. I don't ever think "food" when I watch them, though I'm sure they might make good eating...all the good things they eat...seeds, nuts, and such.

  3. Hi Cheryl!

What a cute picture! I can't even imagine eating something so cute! We have squirrels here and they are pretty destructive. They eat the gardens, destroy the power lines, and terrorize my dog, but, I still think they are cute... :0)

I'm loving your new camera and all the fun photos your sharing with us!

I saw a picture on the news this morning that someone sent in from Missouri - the snow was melting and they took a picture of it! I thought of you, hope your snow is melting!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  5. I loved the Squirrel pictures. When we lived in Spokane; I looked out and saw a squirrel in my yard surrounds by 4 Quial. I wish that I would have taken a picture at the time; it was sweet. Loved your thoughts!

  6. This little bugger is healthy looking. I think he has been enjoying a few nuts! Great pictures! We have squirrels all around and it is all I can do to keep my four grandsons from pulling out the BB guns. They hunt squirrels down at the farm and everytime they see one, all they think about is Squirrel Dumplins'
Have a wonderful and day and enjoy all of your Blessings.
    Hugs to you!

  7. Kimmie...I've been talking about the poem you got!

Rambler...yep, playing again! This camera is taking me away from work I should be doing! :D

Vee...I love squirrel if I don't think about what it actually is while eating it. It's a wonder I'm not a vegetarian, really. I love all animals.

Barb...you are right...the snow is melting here! :))) Doing a happy dance here!!

Ms Bon...thanks for stopping by and commenting!

LeAnn...it's good to see you! I bet that was a sight to see the squirrel surrounded by quail. I've noticed the birds don't seem to mind my squirrel, I guess they're used to them.

Shug...I've never had squirrel dumplings, must be good!

  8. He is seriously cute... and seriously well fed! Our squirrels are not nearly as "healthy" as yours. You got some great shots.

I love my squirrels but they eat the bird feed about as fast as I can put it out and then the birdies get nothing.

  9. Thanks so much for stopping by TNS and commenting. Always nice to meet a neighbor.
Some people find squirrels annoying, I think they are amazing atheltes and so cute. If I had any, I would put out feeders just for them.

  10. Deanna...I'm surprised my squirrel left this feeder alone as long as he did! It doesn't take him long to clean it out. I don't fill this one as often as the others he can't get into when he's visiting regularly.

Patti...thanks so much for coming by. We used to keep a squirrel feeder out, but we don't have access to ear corn anymore and I already spend enough on the birds!

  13. Awe..he's a cutie! We have a lot of squirrels in our yard. Sometimes we find babies that have fallen out of the trees and we take care of them or find a vet that will nurse them back to health.
But I have to say...My grandma use to cook up some pretty tasty squirrel mulligan before she passed away...I just can't seem to make it as good as she did!
    Beautiful photos!!!

Julie...thanks for coming by, I'll be visiting again I'm sure. I think chipmunks are cute, too. I always think "Alvin!". :D

Tina...That's sweet that you take care of the babies. I'd do that too if I saw one that was hurt. Thanks for your comment!
