Old Scrooge

Do you know one?  An old Scrooge?  You know...Bah! Humbug!  I confess to feeling a bit like the ole guy today.  Just about everything I touched today turned into a disaster.  I'll just tell about a few.

First of all, I started watering my plants.  Reaching up high atop my Hoosier cabinet in the kitchen where I have plants and Christmas decor, I grabbed a plant and didn't realize that a smaller plant that I'm starting in a vase of water was caught on the larger one.  It came spilling over the top onto some things I'd rather not have wet.

Next, after the cleanup and getting the rest of the plants watered, I decided to turn on the self-cleaning feature on my oven.  I checked the oven and decided (wrongly) that it didn't need any pre-cleaning, as it didn't look too bad to me.  Well, about 10 minutes after it started heating up, I happened to still be in the kitchen and looked at the oven and saw flames all over the oven.  I've done this before and this was the first time I ever saw flames!  So, off goes the oven and it's still awaiting cleaning.  I was too aggravated by then to tackle the job.

And besides all the mishaps, my computer didn't have internet connection all day.  After calling my internet provider, it was determined that I had a bad modem, so a trip to WalMart in the next town was called for.  Then it was on to the setting up of this modem where the real fun began.  After talking to 3 people, who I could barely understand, I'll just say that I finally have internet connection.  But my good temper hasn't quite been restored yet!

I hope to get my oven cleaned tomorrow, and the Christmas cards done.  It's still bitterly cold here and we have a little snow on the ground which makes it look a lot like Christmas!  Cheer up, Scrooge....talking to myself here.  Tomorrow is another day!  Hope it's a good one wherever you are.

Until next time...

  5. Oh my!!! What a day. I've never heard of the self-cleaning over having flames. That would have really terrified me.

  6. Remember Hee Haw & the "Gloom-Dispair" song? I think we need to sing it sometimes! I've been feeling a bit Scrooge-ish myself the past few days! The weather here has been cold & snowy, but only 2-3 inches. We didn't get the blizzard that was up north. I'm going to put my shopping shoes on tomorrow morning as I hear there is a wintry mix coming by Thursday...& I have much shopping to be done!!! Enjoy the festivities!

  7. Cheryl I got a little of that "Scrooge" thing going on too! I was planning on heading to Columbia for a little shopping today but now I am hearing threats and whispers of ICE! I'm going anyway! At least the temps are going up a little and yesterday I saw a peak of sunshine right before the sun decided to set!!!

  8. Hi Rambler...maybe I'll see you in Columbia, I'm going too! It sounds like the ice will stay south of Columbia. Be careful!

  9. Hi Cheryl!

Wow, it sounds like we should be in the same - padded cell!! I sympathize with the modem story, it is such a hassle to deal with problems like that. The oven story was just too funny...I'm sure you can look back on that and grin...:0) Again, been there done that!! I hope the week only improved for you sweet friend! And, you are right, tomorrow is another day...and it will be a good one!!

Snow!! We have had rain! But, we are looking forward to a "White" Christmas!

    Warm hugs,
    Barb

  10. Sorry about your bad day. I think if I had all of your moments of today happen to me; I would probably be in tears. Some times I think that we have a bad day to remind us how precious the good days are. I always say enjoy the moments.
Tomorrow will be a great day!
    Blessings to you! LeAnn

  11. I'm with ya! My week has gone somewhat like your description. It (my spirit) is better now - hope yours is too! I love your header - that kitty in the tree is precious. We've seen that a few times here over the years! :D Merry Christmas to you and yours! -Tammy

  12. Oh dear, you did have a not so great day.

An appliance doc told me years ago that the quickest way to burn out your oven element is to use the self clean feature. So, I don't. Of course, that means I have a dirty oven at all times ;)

Hope the rest of your week faired better than this day!
