October Note Card Party

Once again it's time for Vee's Note Card Party.  We are to choose 4 photos that have appeared in a previous post that we think would look good on a notecard.  So without further ado, here are my four photos.  I think my theme is self-explanatory!

Barn Charm

It looks like this old barn is closer to the small lake than it really is.  This is a drive-by shot from the highway looking down a steep hill.

There are so many of these old beauties that need some TLC dotting the countryside, but they hold a lot of charm and bring back many memories of life on the farm for this farmer's daughter.  The memories will never fade and I hope the rustic and charming old barns won't completely fade away, either.

The Color of Autumn

"The special gift of frosty days comes now; time to lay down the household tasks and shut the door on routine. For every October, when I see the trees over the meadow, I think, "I shall not look upon her like again." And every October is different, strange with new beauty."   ~Gladys Taber

"How beautifully leaves grow old.  How full of light and color are their last days."   ~John Burroughs

"Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn."
  ~Elizabeth Lawrence

I'm enjoying fall and the colorful trees all around my town.
I feel like I want to just sit on the ground in the midst of the falling leaves and pull the beauty of the season around me much like a cozy quilt on a chilly night.  To keep me warm against the cold and gray winter that is surely coming soon.

The weather is wonderful after the welcome rain over the weekend and it's hard to stay inside.  So, today I'll do a little road tripping and get a few errands done.  Maybe I'll even snap a few more fall scenes.  Happy Monday to you!

Until next time...

It's raining...

Photo of soggy leaves taken in the rain today.

It's raining, it's pouring,
the old man is snoring...

I've been doing the happy dance.  Not because I'm over the virus, I'm not.  I am better, which is good news.  But the best news I want to share is that my happy dancing is a result of the rain we've been getting since this afternoon and it's still coming down even as I write this at 10:30 pm.  Yes, the old man hubby is snoring.  It's great sleeping weather.  But, I just have to stay awake awhile and listen to the...rarely heard this year...sounds of thunder and rain.

I hope Deanna, Pix and all of my Missouri friends are getting rain, too.  And, of course, whoever else needs it!

Until next time...

Comments closed.  know this is a busy weekend for many.
Just wanted to pop in and share the good news.

Flowers for you...

It occurred to me that while battling this nasty virus that a few flowers would be just the thing to help brighten my day.  Then, it also occurred to me that maybe someone else out there in the land of blog might need cheering up too.  So I put together this bouquet of some of my flowers for you!

Until next time...

Barn Charm

I found this barn last week while on a little drive through the countryside.  I couldn't decide which angle of the barn I liked best, so I'll just show all of them!

Tuesday is the day I usually post my barn photo for Barn Charm, but since I'm a bit under the weather with my first "bug" of this season, I decided to post early.  If I'm like my family, who have already had this bug, I'll more than likely get worse before I get better.  I hope to be able to see the other barns this week, but if not, you know why.

A little confusion in the garden...

The other day, I looked out a window on the side of the house
where most of the lilac bushes are and couldn't believe my eyes.
One of the lilacs is sporting a few blooms!  Don't they know that
this is fall, not spring?  This is the first time this has happened, and they are not of the repeat blooming variety.  Most of my lilacs are
from starts that I brought from our previous residence.  Anyone else have this happen before?

It seems a lot of my flowers have gotten their second wind, so to speak.  The zinnias have perked up and all of the Knockout Roses are blooming prettily.  The Salvia, Stella D'Oros and others are blooming, too.

The weather is supposed to really cool off by the weekend with night time temps in the 30's, so I know it is almost time to say goodbye to all the lovely flowers.  They made a valiant effort this year, in the unrelenting heat and drought, to provide spots of color and beauty.  As much as I love Fall, I look forward to Spring and to seeing new growth and beautiful new blooms once again.

Until next time...

Barn Charm

It's time once again for Barn Charm.  I found this barn on a drive
Sunday that I've driven past several times, but had almost forgotten.
I probably should have cropped this, but wanted to leave in the
small lake and the green (yes! we have green again) grass in the
foreground.

Here's a closer look.  I think we're looking at the back side of this
barn and it doesn't look like it's being used much today.

To see some great barns all around the country, just

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.  ~Albert Camus

It was a wonderful weekend and it's been very exciting to see beautiful fall colors emerging lately.  It was thought that the fall would not be very pretty since we've been so lacking in rain this year.  But, on a drive yesterday, we saw many beautiful and welcome spots of color.

The vines coloring the tree trucks red caught my eye and we pulled over on the side of the road so I could snap a quick pic.  There was quite a bit of traffic so we couldn't tarry long.  Others  were out enjoying the beautiful fall day, too.

Quickly scanning the area, I happened to spot this notice attached to a tree.  Warning!  No Trespassing!  Who? Me?    Hmm, I wonder if shooting photos is allowed?

Talking about crossing the line, so to speak.  I just happened to have run across some of my photos on P.interest.  I didn't put them there and, except for one person, wasn't asked permission to have them put there.  Has this  happened to you and what do you do about it?  I know that I could put watermarks on my photos, but I really don't like to do that.

Hope that you had a beautiful autumn weekend, too.
Enjoy your first day of October!
