Are We There Yet?

If you have ever traveled with children then you most likely have heard them ask "are we there yet?"

And now I'm traveling down the long, cold road to spring.  Are we there yet?  I know, we're only nine days into January.  It's just that this has been such a cold month so far and I am so not a winter person.  I do enjoy a little snow, but the bitter cold and icy conditions are what I could cheerfully give up.

I didn't mind winters when I was a youngster and fondly remember the days when I went ice skating on the pond or sledding with my brothers.  Seems like we had more snow then than we do now.

The photo of the barn is one I found in my archives.  We haven't had that much snow yet.  We had a lot of fog and icy branches this morning and some black ice.  I need to fill the bird feeders but don't want to walk across the patio for fear of falling.

Ahh...much better!  I grabbed a flower pic from the archives and I'll look at this while I'm finishing up my to-do list for 2018.  Maybe I'll post it next time.  It's turning into a lengthy one and I'm quite sure that some things will not get done, but it's good to have a list and even better when something is crossed off and marked done.

I don't make resolutions but set goals and hope to achieve a few of them.  How about you?  Do you have a special goal in mind for this new year?  And how is the weather in your part of the world?

Happy Tuesday to you!
Cheryl

    1. Hi Tanya, I'm late in replying...had to run some errands today and then visited with my daughter and finally got home and here I am. Good thing I'm a night owl. :)
We haven't had too many big snows in recent years either. It seems like we had snow quite often when I was a youngster. Or maybe that's just the way it seemed then. Happy New Year to you!

  3. Cheryl, I love the barn picture but the flowers are so pretty to me after this cold we had. Today and yesterday was in the 30's which is good after freezing. :) I have never like winter...but when I was younger I could deal with it better. I am thankful for the sunshine God has sent to me...otherwise these cold days would be depressing. Take care and stay healthy. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Hi Susie, we had some sun on Saturday but it sure was cold. It did warm up into the 30s here today too, but it was windy and cloudy. The sun does make a big difference and makes us feel better, I think.

    1. Now let’s see if I can comment without being booted. 😊 We are more skittish in old age as we don’t bounce like we did as kids. Broken bones hurt. Hope that the bitter temps have broken for you. We have a reprieve this week, but back to the deep freeze over the weekend. My goal is to get John’s property sold. That’s it.

    2. Vee, I won't walk on ice because I've already busted up an ankle doing that very thing. I know only too well how broken bones hurt. That's why I'm so scared of the ice and worry about my family and friends that have to go to work in icy conditions. Glad you got a reprieve from the cold. Hope you get the property sold soon.

  5. Hi Lady, we didn't put out the bird feeders yesterday either... Didn't want to go out in that bitter cold and ICE...... I also have a fear of falling.....

We haven't had any snow yet --other than some flurries flying around in the air a few times.... I agree--that we used to get more snow than we do now.... Even in 2002-4---when we first moved to Fairfield Glade, we had some great snows... But the past 5-8 years, almost nothing here.... Bummer.

No resolutions for me either --but I do have some goals for 2018 .... One thing I need to continue to work on is getting rid of the STRESS.... I cannot fix things when it comes to death/illness/life changes --in dealing with our kids ---so I need to let that stress go!!!!!! I CANNOT FIX IT!!!!!! Getting rid of the stress should help my other physical problems (not sleeping, stomach problems, etc.)...... That's my GOAL for this coming year.

Have a great week and stay WARM....

    Hugs,
    Betsy

    1. Hi Betsy, I really do hope you can cut out some of that stress. I know it is easier said than done when it involves family. We want to fix things and when we can't it's hard. Take care!

  7. The weather has been 0 and below. Darkness prevails, along with howling wind. I have never been one to wish time away, but gosh! Today I was tying to think of any GOOD things about winter. Here they are. No bugs or spiders. And it makes us appreciate spring so much more. This is a beautiful barn. It will be some time before I see a real zinnia.

    1. Hi Ruth, it warmed up a bit here today, we got into the 30's but the wind made it seem cold and it would help if the sun would quit hiding behind the clouds. :) I know you have a lot more snow than we do and you capture winter beautifully with your camera.

  10. Hi Cheryl!

I'm so sorry that you guys are in the deep freeze!! We hit 38 degrees today and it felt like a heat wave! It's suppose to snow tomorrow, so it is short lived. I keep trying to remember that it really is just January, I want it to be June!

I have a few goals, not resolutions, I never keep them. I told my husband today (as we were taking down Christmas decorations... ;0) ) that I need to take a tablet into each room and write a list of projects that we need to do in it...he didn't respond. What does that tell you?! I still plan on doing it, as soon as he sees me trying to set up the ladder, he'll be all in!

Your photos were stunning, I especially loved the barn...even if there was snow on it!

    Stay warm dear friend!!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

Glad you like the photos. Take care!

  12. Yep. I'm with you, are we there yet??? I used to like the winters much better as a youngster, too. Before my bones ached with the cold. LOL! The zinnia gets my vote! ;) Stay warm. blessings ~ tanna

  14. As you know I am a Missourian, too. Each winter I ask myself the same question, WHY? Why do I live in Missouri where I freeze in the winter and bake with humidity in the summer. I enjoy neither. There ARE good reasons. :)

  15. Cheryl-I an with you and not a fan of this cold weather at all. We are in the 20s today and I feel like we are having a heat wave. Sadly, the the weekend we will be back in single digits. ugh!

I, too, loved ice skating and sledding as a kid. It ALMOST made up for being cold the whole time. xoDiana

  16. I remember the days in OH when I was growing up and the lake near us froze over nearly every year and we skated on it. We had lots of deep snows too...I don't think that happens too often at all anymore. I do like me some snow but not in such terribly cold conditions that you can't get out and enjoy it. Your zinnia is gorgeous...one of faves that reminds me of my mom. I stopped doing the resolutions too...I have so many things that need done in getting the house ready to sell...going to start one room at a time...purging, cleaning, touching up paint, etc., etc. I'm worn out just thinking about it but figure I need to set each room as a goal instead of the whole house!

  17. Hi,
My son Atticus just said this to me this morning "Mom, we never have nice winter's anymore." We don't. Last night we received an ice storm! Tonight the temps will drop to negative 20 with a wind chill of negative 40!
I remember having warm winter nights playing in the forts we made, back when Wisconsin got snow, not ice.

Thank you for the flower photo, I needed that.
    Hugs,
    Carla

  18. Since we live in NH now and this was by our choice, I can't complain too loudly about the cold. Lately the snowfall because this is New England and that's what it's supposed to do in winters here. That said, I don't go out and walk about because I too have a fear of falling especially where ice is concerned. We are now in a warming trend and the snow and ice are melting...slowly. I have a few goals this year, but don't call them resolutions any more (or less).

  19. I love the big red barn.... Winter's in Texas are so strange. I had on shorts yesterday and today....the wind is blowing and it is very cold. Tomorrow, it might be in the 60's. This particular Jan has been a bit dreary and I am ready to see some sunshine. Your flower picture is so pretty and cheery!!

  20. I often quote the sister of a friend who said, "The older I get, the narrower my window of acceptable temperatures." That is me! You too? I really dislike heat and humidity and I am always happy to see summer turn into autumn. But the bitter cold gets old fast. I just want it to be perfect! :)
