This and That

If you read Better Homes and Gardens, then you've seen this photo on the cover.  What do you think?

I'm thinking I couldn't live with that pattern!  I've been popping Sudafed for several days to help with a stuffed up head and a few bouts of dizziness.  If I had a kitchen like that one, it would make me dizzy for sure!

We went to Kansas City over the weekend to visit our son.  He does so much traveling and it's not fair for him to have to drive in all the time to see us.  We had a nice visit and it was good to get away for a couple of days.

I put the BH&G magazine in the suitcase in case I had a little time for looking through it.  It is one of the free subscriptions I get.  I love magazines, but I don't buy many any longer.  With blogs and Pinterest to look at, I don't need to.

One of my favorite things to do is eat out and we had some yummy food while in KC.  This plate wasn't mine, but I got a taste of the ribs and they were delicious.  BG always orders french fries.  I had shrimp, potato salad and roasted corn.  We all split a huge ice cream on a brownie dessert.  I was so eager to dig in that I forgot to take a pic of it.  I know...I'm not supposed to eat sugary things, but a girl has to have a treat once in awhile.  ☺

I had to stop in and browse around at Home Goods at Blue Springs on the way home.  I love that store and we don't have one in CoMo.

The horse can be had for a mere $699!  I didn't think of trying to see how heavy it was.  Where would you put it?  At least you wouldn't have to buy hay and oats for it.  lol!

I saw lots of lovely things that were tempting, but since I've been trying to weed out things I don't need or love, the only thing I purchased was a bottle of my favorite perfume from the TJMaxx side of the store.  It was marked way down to about half of what I usually have to pay, so I hope the scent is still the same.  I haven't checked it out yet.

This week has been one for resting and keeping my head still.  I'm hoping to go to the Big Town later today.  I have a coupon that needs to be used before it expires tonight.  What are you up to this week?  It's hard to believe it's the last day of January!

Happy Wednesday to you!
Cheryl

  1. My daughter and I love to rummage through Home Goods stores!! Never know what you will find, as that horse well exemplifies! LOL! Glad you enjoyed a visit with your son, always a good thing. ;) It is hard to believe that the year is 1/12 over already. Hope you have a wonderful week, Cheryl! blessings ~ tanna

    1. There is always a surprise at Home Goods, such as the horse and also the fake typewriter I also saw with some keys missing. I thought, huh? lol!

  2. I think if I had that horse it would end up with clothes hanging on it. You know, like a treadmill.

  3. Good Morning, Cheryl! We haven't been to KC in a bit but you sure can get good BBQ there! Nope, I couldn't live with that kitchen. You know there is a Home Goods in Jeff... I have been in it once but I don't need more stuff. I don't know what that horse is made of but it would be funny to stick it in a field! CH was in Columbia yesterday for a Dr.'s appt. Sorry you are having issues with dizziness. Hair cut, having my dryer repaired, and trying to see CH's Mom are on the list for this week.

    1. Hi Pix! Good to see you back in blogland! I don't get to Jeff very often...don't know why because I do like it there and I really love to eat at Oscar's. :) You're right about the horse standing in a field. If I had money to throw away, I'd buy it and put it in our big back yard. lol! Hope The Mama is doing well.

  4. I am thinking it is the saddle that is for sale, not the horse. the kitchen above would have me crazy in just an hour or two. i am minimalist in style. i think you are right about magazine sales being down because of internet and i had not thought about that. no need to buy the magazines when everything is free at the fingertips. i have never bought magazines but i sure do look around the net

    1. It's the horse and saddle both for sale. The saddle is a little small to command that big a price. :) I'm getting there in learning to like the minimalist style myself. I think getting older is part of it...not wanting so much to take care of.

  5. LOL- About the horse for sale. I saw something similar here and had to smile thinking about hauling that thing home. Hoping the Sudafed helps and you feel better soon.

That kitchen is way too busy for me. I want some 'calm' in my house and that much pattern would drive me nuts.

Hope you have a great day- xoDiana

    1. I'm still popping Sudafed. This winter has been doing a number on my head. I seem to be stuffed up most of the time. Hope you are doing well!

  6. I had to chuckle when I saw the horse!! I have a picture of it on my phone, I told my son I was buying it for my 2yr old grandsons birthday. He didn't think that was to funny since I bought his sister a 5ft giraffe last year for her 4th birthday. I do love a good Homegoods store!! The kitchen reminds me of the 70s and I don't want to re-live them.

    1. Isn't that pattern in the kitchen too much? I sure couldn't live with that. Thanks for visiting, Susie!

  7. That picture brings to mind one word--BUSY. Don't think I could hack it. We use to call horses like that "easy keepers."

    1. That's one I haven't heard, Patti. "Easy keepers" is right on. I love horses. My dad always referred to them as "hay burners".

  8. That pattern is way too busy and dizzying. But I do love the shiny blue cabinets. B.C. (before computer) I used to buy so many magazines. Now I don't anymore. How is it your got BH&G for free? Funny, it has been coming to me, but I have not subscribed to it. The minute I saw this horse, I KNEW where you were! I love Home Goods! I have never seen one with a T.J. Maxx side.

    1. Ginny, we get 2 free subscriptions to magazines when we purchase our season tickets to SDC in Branson. I usually choose BG&G for one of them. I used to spend way too much time reading magazines...now it is the computer that I spend too much time on!

  9. If you went to Home Goods in Blue Springs you were not far from where I live. Small world! I shop in that particular shopping center all the time. It sounds like you had a nice visit in KC. It looks like you went to one of our barbecue restaurants. We have so many different ones here but one of our favorites is Jack Stack.

Trips are fun but also tiring. I do hope you are feeling better! Take care Cheryl!

    1. Hi Bonnie, we haven't been to Jack Stack yet...will have to try it out. Gates is one of our favorites. I'm still battling a stuffy head and the minute I feel a little better, I'll get out and then have to sit still again like I am today. It's sure an annoying little bug that I've battled all winter. Sudafed does help some, thank goodness.

  12. The perfume should be fine. I get mine from TJ MAXX all the time. Sounds like you had a lovely time. Hope you feel better soon. I like that horse.

    1. Thanks, Terre. I think the perfume is fine. I've gotten some perfume on sale before that was a little off in the aroma, so I was hoping this one would be good. It was sure good to find it at the price I did!

  13. A change of scenery is good for the soul. I do agree that this kitchen is a little mind boggling! And the cow---good gracious, where would you put it?

Curious, what perfume do you wear? Just wondering. I'm amazed that so many women don't wear perfume. I do, and play with different fragrances. My daughters are also huge fans of their personal scents. Fun topic.

  14. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, Cheryl, and hope the stuffiness goes away soon. Browsing is one of my favorite pastimes but not sure if we have a Home Goods store near by. That horse may be a bargain mark-down in a few weeks. Those ribs looked good!

    1. I remember when you could buy a real horse for less than this one! I love browsing in Home Goods, even though I don't need a thing. The ribs were delish!

  15. Happy February! Wow, 2018 is already on the move. I feel like I just wrote down my goals.
I will have to stop in at Home Goods, I have not in awhile. I like it too and always want many of the fun items I see. :-)

  16. Sorry you have a head cold- I hate nose stuffiness the worst and have been known to wear those breathable strips at night and sometimes during the day! Sudafed doesn't work, unless I get the "real" Sudafed, which they don't even have any more I don't think because of all the druggies out there, but even that makes my hair stand on end. I hope you feel better soon.

  17. Hi Cheryl!

I could not live with that pattern either!! Yikes!!! I guess I'm just a plain Jane...and that's okay!

It is nice to get away, especially during these dreary months. It hasn't been cold here, in fact we have had record highs! But, it looks gray and blah. I love to just get out of town for a day or two, sure can help put some zip in my step.

Those ribs look delicious! I love BBQ of any kind.

Head colds are no fun, I've been battling one since before Christmas! I was taking Sudafed, and my Dr. flipped out! He told me that it was hard on your heart, and on your blood pressure. But, sometimes it's the only thing that helps clear my head. I hope you start feeling better really soon.

We don't have a, Home Goods here, but it looks like a fun store! Who would buy a horse like that? I guess it might be fun for kids. I do love TJMaxx, I usually find something I need there, it's my go to store for weddings and birthdays.

    Have a great week-end!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

  18. I agree with Vee...hideous! I just don't get decor like that...nothing about it says "comfortable, cozy or peaceful"! Like you, I can find many rooms and decorating ideas that I like on Pinterest. I find decor ideas in most magazines to be way too far out for my taste. I hope your head cold goes away...nothing I dislike more...I had a bad a cold a couple of weeks ago and was just miserable. I hope to get started clearing out/organizing my craft/project room tomorrow. Wish me luck! :D

  19. Like you, that would make me crazy to look at all that pattern!

My Sis and BIL have both had colds.....bummer. So far, we have escaped the illness that seems to be surrounding us.

Hope you feel better very soon.

  20. I love HomeGoods (it's one of my favorite stores), but I don't love that horse. Haha! At our local store last summer, there was a ginormous pig that was a grill. I suppose you'd have to have just the right place to use such a thing. Yikes!

Stay healthy, Cheryl! I hope your days with vertigo are soon past!

  21. I agree that the Better Homes and Garden photo would make me dizzy if I had that room in my home. I'm sorry you are battling the dizziness and stuffiness again. Hope you get to feeling much better soon. I will have you in my prayers.
I am happy you could take a couple of days and see your son. The food look yummy and yes even when you can't have sugar: I think it is oK to indulge once in a while.
What would you do with a horse like that?? Yes indeed you wouldn't have to feed it. I always enjoy the stores that you shop in. I am a country girl at heart.
Hope that this first weekend of February is going well for you and you are doing better.
Sending warm thoughts, prayers and hugs your way!

  22. Hi Cheryl,
I have been away from blog land for quite a long time and am trying to get back into it. I’ve missed hearing about the goings on of other folk. The pattern would have made me dizzy, the horse was probably hollow 😋, and the food looks scrumptious! i hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying 2018!
