A Little Getaway

It's probably not too hard to guess where this road leads to.

Yes, it is just a few miles from Branson.  BG mentioned after the 4th that it would be a good time for him to take off a few days.  I had the laundry all caught up, so I packed the suitcase and we were on our way.

Our son was still on vacation so he joined us for a few days.

The weather was nice and hot, but we had some beautiful skies after a fast moving storm blew in Friday evening just as we were getting ready to leave the condo to go to dinner.

The rain cooled the temps down and the humidity wasn't as high, so we enjoyed a game of miniature golf after dinner that evening.  I, of course, came in last...as usual.  ☺  The men are such competitors and I don't stand a chance.  And I even got a hole-in-one!  Brett scored 3 holes-in-one and still lost to the Big Guy.  BG never lets us hear the end of it, either!  lol
The food was delicious everywhere we ate.  I fixed breakfast a few times at the condo and we had snacks, but the main meals are eaten out.  That's part of the fun of vacation, right?  'Tis for me.

I wish I'd zoomed in a bit closer on this tree just outside our deck at the condo.  We can't figure out what it is.  It appears to have large clusters of what looks like nuts of some kind.  Anyone know what this is?

Pretty skies were overhead as we traveled home.  The weather is very hot right now.  Our daughter watered the flowers and kept the cats fed while we were gone.  The flowers are still looking good so far.  It will be a battle to keep them that way with this relentless heat and humidity.

The Japanese beetles are still around devouring our peaches.  And the raccoons are feasting on them as well.  The deer may miss out this year.  Some years I feel like we plant just to feed the wildlife.

I have picked one ripe tomato.  And the cucumbers are full of flowers getting ready to turn into fruit.  But the green pepper plants look pitiful.  There won't be many of those this year.

Our little vacation was nice but ended all too quickly.  The days just rush by and there's so much to see and do that there is never enough time.   Now it's back home and back to work.

I want to do some changing up in my house, but first I need to get some of the purging done.  There is a long to-do list that I've made and I'll be happy when I can draw a line through those items that are done.  What are you up to this summer?

Happy Wednesday to you!
xo Cheryl

  1. Yay for the getaway! Always good for some refreshing and meals that you don't have to prepare! What fun that your son could oin you for a few of those days, too. I think that I am up to the same sorts of things that you are...there's always a pile by the door waiting to get to the trunk of the car...not the best look. 🙃 Enjoy these summer days...🍉

    2. Not having to cook and clean the kitchen is the best part!

  2. Looks and sounds like you had a nice time.
Branson is on my bucket list, though it will be a while before we make it out there.
It's nice to have projects around the house to look forward to, when the heat makes it miserable to be outside.
I've been painting up a storm around here, and trying to get a fresh coat of paint on the walls in every room, and do some redecorating too.
It will be nice to have everything freshened up and give it all a face lift :)

Have a nice rest of your week.

    1. Painting is something I'd like to do but I'm not sure I'm up to the task. What color did you choose?

    1. We cut way back on the planting this year. I'm hoping the tomatoes survive, they are so good fresh out of the garden.

  4. Yea, down time, eating out and no clean up. Perfect. It has finally turned to summer here and high 90s every day. Sigh. Looking for inside chores.

    1. It's been too hot to sit outside for long here and I can't wait to get back inside to the a/c after watering the flowers.

  5. Sounds like a great time...so nice that your son was able to go along! Still wanting to get to Branson one day. It sounds like many of us are purging here and there. I have a box in the back of my car to take to the Goodwill that I've been toting around since before I rid of my Jeep...now it's in my new car, LOL! My excuse is that I have other stuff to add to it and haven't gotten it all together yet! The weather here is horribly hot and muggy...and I'm ready for fall!

  6. Hello Friend,
I just love your family. How fun to have your son come along. I enjoy mini golf too, but always come in last as well. ;-) Can you beat your daughter?
    Have a great week,

  7. I'm glad you were able to get away. I love miniature golf! But I am not good at it either. Wish I knew what this tree is. I guess you were not allowed to actually pick the things on it! I may have tried! Feeding wildlife is not a bad thing. But they should leave a bunch for you!

  9. I read every comment so far...I really wonder what the tree is, too. Sounds like a nice little break in your routine. I would like to go somewhere for a night or two, but not sure Roger wants to.

  10. A getaway is always fun as is not having to cook and yes that is one of the best parts, or else why do it! Did you see any shows on your Branson getaway ?

  11. Hello, your Branson getaway sounds like fun. Eating dinners out is a must for vacations. Sorry, I can not help with the tree id. The deer, raccoons and birds eat whatever we try to grow here. Right now they are enjoying a feast of blueberries. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend.

  12. I always love your getaways to Branson. It looks so fun. I am happy our son could join you. Yes, I think eating out is one of the best parts of a vacation. I just love food.
Sorry, that the animals and birds are getting some of your goodies.
My peppers aren't looking very good either. What's up with that? I loved all the photos and am happy you had a good time.
I'm trying the purging thing too. Our mission is completed in September. I may have a daughter's family moving in with us in August to save for a home. I need to find time to figure out how to fit them all in.
Sending loving thoughts your way and hugs too!
