A CATastrophe

~I didn't do it~

I left off my last post with a promise to tell what happened with the cat and the tv.

One evening as we were eating a late dinner, we heard an enormous crash coming from the living room.  We got up and hurried in to see what had happened.  Our tv was on the floor face down and a kitty with the tail fluffed out was sitting there looking guilty.  So we at first thought.  As it turned out, it was a flying insect that the cat was watching and trying to nab.  So that explained how the tv got to be knocked off the entertainment center and onto the floor.

Upon sitting the television upright we saw the big cracks but plugged it in to see if it was still working and turned it on to find nothing but lines appearing on the screen.

So, it was 2 big purchases that needed to be made recently as I've also had to replace my dying old laptop.

The new television is a little larger than our other one and this time it got mounted on the wall.  Our son did that chore for us while he was here Father's Day weekend.

Now I have a new dilemma and that is how to hide the 3 cords that hang down the wall.  Of course, they would have to be hanging from 3 different spots and not where I could put all three in something to hide them or drill one hole in the wall behind the tv.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.  The only thing I can think of is several picture frames.

The laptop was bought at the computer repair center.  It is one year old and had been restored by the tech geeks.  I've taken it back twice now and may have to take it in again.  The screen fades to light with wide stripes appearing.  When I move the screen/lid it will go back to normal.  They couldn't find a cause for all of this but said they would order a new monitor if it kept happening.

This computer has Windows 10 and that is a bit of a challenge.  Also, they transferred all my files over to this computer and I'm having trouble with the pictures.  Seems when I click on a folder, I don't see any photos.  I'm sure there's a fix, but I haven't found it yet.

Weather-wise it's been very hot but after a little rain this morning it's supposed to be cooler this weekend.  I bought a few new flowers to replace those that have died while I was at the Big Town to pick up the laptop yesterday.  Home Depot and Lowes still have lots of beautiful flowers left.

Have a nice weekend.

Happy Friday to you!
xo Cheryl

  1. Oh no! I know that my sister and brother-in-law got all cords to go into one solid tube structure and it goes from the midpoint of the tv straight down. It can be painted the color of the wall so "goes away." I have done no flower buying. The weather is so foul that no one is bothering. The garden centers are going to lose their shirts this year. Your flowers are gorgeous. Have fun figuring out your new laptop! 🤓

  3. Oh, your cat did cause some trouble. They are always so playful and I can picture the whole things. A new bigger TV is always fun. Cords can be a struggle. I think pictures are a good idea. Your flowers are lovely.
I am sure you are a bit stressed over the laptop problems. At least I would be for sure; especially when it comes to photos.
Blessings for you and hugs too~

  4. Oh my gosh! It is a miracle that your kitty was not hurt or killed!! So on the bright side, kitty is alive and you have a brand new T.V. One that no one can knock over. I hope you can get your computer totally straightened out, they can be so frustrating! Your flowers are beautiful! Those cords are a problem! The only thing I can think of is something like a wide flower box, or a wide basket with a plant in it.

  5. Now that is one way to get a new TV,but as much as I would like a bigger one,I don't want to throw mine on the floorer have anyone else do it. I could see a longer narrow picture to cover the cords.

  6. If you come up with a solution for the cords, I would like to see it. Just out of curiosity. I have a tangle of cords on the floor to laptop, chromebook, printer...etc...and I just don't worry about it. If I thought there was a solution, I would do something about it...but I cannot think of one.

  7. Check out Walmart or hardware stores for cord cover. They make a flat one that can even be painted. Several choices. Good luck.

  8. Is there a clause in your insurance that covers Catastrophes? Probably not. Not sure how to hide the cords but there has to be a way. Never see hanging cords in the adds. Let us know what you find. Enjoy the new TV and good luck on the computer.

  10. Hi Cheryl~

Oh no...poor kitty...they just don't realize how pricey a TV is... :0) My TV has been on the blitz, I think it's just worn out. I hate those months where everything needs fixing or replacing! I know that there are many clever ways to hide cords, try Pinterest or just Google it. Please let us know what you do, I would love to mount my TV on the wall one day!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  11. I wish I had an answer about the cords hanging behind your TV. I have that problem with the wall mounted TV in my little guest house. My kids have them and I've never thought to ask how they hide the cords but I will.

As far as your computer, I can only say that I had problem after problem with every laptop I owned. Much money was spent on repairs and then I bit the bullet (and my wallet) and bought a Mac. Seems they are pretty much problem free. It has been a smooth ride. They offer a lot of extras and might be difficult for most to navigate but I'm happy with what I've learned so far.

    Good luck!

  15. The things we put up with from our pets. The little boogers. One of my Springer Spaniels was quite the disaster.
The new TV style has everyone in perplexed with those issues. I wish the designers would put some time on that one and have a monthly design tip in magazines for how to deal with the TV.

  16. Check out Amazon for wall cord covers: https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=cord+cover+for+wall&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=182166943591&hvpos=1t1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5101537218274553640&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9013689&hvtargid=kwd-5219612915&ref=pd_sl_ec7xzdxj_e_p20

If this link doesn't work, just search for cord covers for walls...... But--Ginny's idea of a big long container with some kind of plant in it might work... Just make sure it's HEAVY... ha

Sorry about your accident ---but kitties are just too curious!!!!! It's just their nature... Glad the TV didn't land on the cat...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. Paint them to match the wall. Well, that was all I could come up with.

  18. Shame on you, Kitty! In the old days, a kitty could not muster the strength to knock a TV off the cabinet...but if it had fallen on them, well, you know the possibilities. I'm sorry about the mishap too. I am with Vee...check into those tube-like thingies and maybe paint them to match...also set décor items close to them to hide any trace. I have Windows 10 and although it is a bit different, it is pretty user friendly, unlike Windows 8...I hated it. Hope you get it all set back up...these things can be so frustrating!
