Ten More Days!

Hello!  Anyone still there?  Or are you busy shopping, wrapping and baking?  Maybe you are finished with all of that and sipping on a mug of hot chocolate listening to nice music in front of a cozy fire.

This Christmas is approaching faster than any other Christmas in recent memory and I still have much to do.  But that's okay.  Really.  Everything that is important always manages to get done and I am not going to stress about anything.  Never mind that the cards are still to be sent, gifts still need to be bought and wrapped.  But, the trees are up and the house is as decorated as it's going to be.

I love Christmas!  It is a most special season as we celebrate our Savior's birth.

Ever since my kids were young, they have gotten a box of chocolate-covered cherries for one of their Christmas gifts.  It is a tradition that I continue today.  My daughter loves them, my son probably not so much but it wouldn't be Christmas if they didn't get them!  😊

Our daughter is mostly moved into her new home.  She is so excited and while there are still a few things to tweak, the main things are moved in and done.  Drapes, curtains and such are still to be chosen.  She's already rearranged the living room furniture.  The drapes/curtains will be pondered while she decides on the right colors.

I got out my sewing machine, which has been in storage for years, to make her a couple of panels for her bathroom window.  It is over the tub so she bought a fabric shower curtain that can be used for a liner, so I cut out the panels and stitched up the sides and made a pocket for the tension rod to go through.

I found out that sewing is like riding a bicycle.  You never forget!  I got out the instruction book in case I'd forgotten how to thread the machine, but didn't need it.

BG has been under the weather the past few days and now I feel like I'm catching what he has.  That might hinder my plans somewhat.  I want to go to the Amish country to get some Christmas candy and a couple of pies for Christmas.  It's a fun little side trip that I can make on my way to CoMo where I'll do my shopping.

I've decided to change my menu this year.  Me, who never wavers from tradition!  Will the earth stop turning?  Lol!  Instead of another turkey dinner...wasn't it just a few days ago that we had one of those?...I am planning to get a brisket and fixing a potato dish with a garden salad and rolls.  Maybe another dish or two as well and that will be plenty.

What is on your menu this Christmas?  Are you much further along in your preparations than I am?  Wishing you the very best this beautiful season!  Take care, stay warm and stay well!

Happy Thursday to you!
xo Cheryl

  2. you jogged a memory, mother's tradtion was all 4 of us, parents and my brother and I got a box of chocolate covered cherries. until the year she died. I had forgotten that. Daddy was a slow eater, like on a day type eating. we were all hogs and tried to eat his when we finished ours. I still love them and have not had one in a few years. also mother never had a Christmas dinner that was not Turkey, or a thanksgiving one either. Ham was Easter and New Years day, always. thanks for the memories. glad the project is occupied and that you were able to make the curtains.

  4. Yes, I agree, Christmas seems to come faster every year. Menu? The spiral ham arrived in the mail yesterday so looks as if that will be our main dish with some sides, all served buffet style. I like the sounds of going to Amish country for pies and such. A pleasant trip I am sure.

  6. Cheryl, Hope your hubby gets well soon and that you do not catch what he has. Traditions are funny how they get started some times. I love that you give the kids those cherries. Ted says his Mom always wanted those. It's going to be nice for your daughter in her new home. I loved the pictures. Blessings to all at your house. xoxo, Susie

  7. Had to laugh. One box of chocolate covered cherries always makes it into my home at Christmas along with Cadbury eggs at Easter. Sure hope your hubby is well soon and it doesn't spread. Be well and enjoy the holidays.

  9. I so agree that this Christmas has approached quicker than any I can remember! What is up with that anyway??? Do you think it means we are getting O-L-D-E-R??? Seriously, I cannot believe how fast this whole year has flown by! Your decorations look so beautiful and festive. We all have our own traditions, don't we? My older son does LOVE chocolate covered cherries and he gets a box every year too. One thing that I stared many years ago was getting the kids and grandkids a box of Little Debbie's Christmas Tree cakes...lol! They come in red velvet now too! :) I hope to wind things up this weekend as we will all be traveling to TN to Adam's place. I think ham and homemade mac & cheese is on the menu, for sure and probably some venison sometime over the weekend :) I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas! Hugs!♥

  10. It is so good to hear from you! I do hope you remain healthy in the holidays! I love the second picture of your kitty! Sleeping with his paws stretched out on the wrapping paper! This is a picture of Christmas peace! Believe it or not, I am making spaghetti for Christmas dinner! And we are NOT Italian! Our oldest granddaughter is a vegetarian, so this has no meat in it. And the little ones should love spaghetti.

  11. Switching up dinner sounds like a bit of a challenge. The curtains show you still have it. I have not sewed in years. Doubt I could again. SERIOUSLY. Your daughter must be thrilled to have HOME at long last.

  12. Okay- that does it after seeing those first couple of photos- I want to come back as someones big fat lazy house cat. lol I sure hope you don't get what your hubby has. That is all you will need.
A few years ago I dropped the turkey dinner, too...which I had done for about a hundred years. lol We went simpler and easier and never looked back. We now do a big mid morning brunch and people kind of nibble in the afternoon and early evening with sandwiches and such. It has worked out great and we always buy a huge ham so there are plenty of leftovers.
Happy pre-Christmas week to you . xo Diana
ps-Yep-you never forget how to sew!!!!

  13. Hi Cheryl~

Christmas is coming fast, and I'm not even close to being ready. I have been feeling terrible for the last month, and finally went to the Dr. when I was so sick I couldn't stand it anymore . . . pneumonia! So, Christmas is what it is this year. I was mostly done with gifts, and all the last minute details will just have to wait. My son and his wife will host Christmas Eve dinner, and on Christmas Day, we don't generally do anything big, so I feel like I am on easy street!

Sewing is something I love to do, but don't do very often. Kudos to you for getting out your machine!

    Have a wonderful week-end!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  16. The holidays seems to come earlier because merchandisers start pushing them earlier than when I was growing up. Back then, nothing started for Christmas until Thanksgiving festivities had ended compared to being on displayed at Halloween now. Glad most of your holiday projects are done or well underway and I agree that it is not something to stress over but too many folks do just that. Hope your Christmas meal turns out well. We will be celebrating the holidays in Lancaster, PA this year.

  18. How very exciting for all of you that your daughter is now in her new home. That sounds like a real labor of love.
I hope that you and BG are feeling well. No fun to be under the weather at this busy time of year.
I think I'm doing pretty well with the Christmas preparations. Currently taking a break from cookie baking. Still need to wrap gifts and put the finishing touches on the menu.
We gave up on turkey years ago for that very reason. Didn't we just do this? Now it's Honey Baked ham along with favorite side dishes.
Good plan to not stress with what doesn't get done. I'll join you on that.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

  19. I am far behind where I should be...and here I am catching up on blogs this morning! (What?!) I hope that you were spared the illness that your hubby had. No need to share, right? I am sure that your daughter is thrilled to be moved into her new home!

Christmas blessings to you and yours as you prepare and celebrate His coming!
