Happy Leap Day!

We have had some very nice spring-like weather the last few days.  I should add except for the wind yesterday.  I would have thought a storm was raging outside if I didn't know better.  It was a good day for cooking, reading and napping.

~I'm not sure why the wall looks lavender in this photo!~
Last week, I was busy cleaning the house and getting ready for the men who were coming to set up our new TV/Phone/Internet service.  I knew they would be all over the house as well as the
basement, and that called for extra cleaning such as moving the heavy entertainment center and computer desk to get to all the dust bunnies hiding behind them.

The basement had been mostly cleaned, but it still needed some touch up cleaning before they arrived.  When the telephone guy came, he had to check all the phone wires in the house upstairs and down.

Oh cwap!  That meant that he also had to go into the back part of the basement that is a storage area.  I'd completely overlooked the fact that the phone wires were in there, too!  So, I'm busy apologizing for the boxes he had to maneuver around to get to the wiring that he needed to see.  He very nicely assured me that he'd seen much, much worse.  Whew!  That made me feel a tad bit better.  Anyway, they came, they fixed, and all is well.

Some of my plants needed replacing so I got that job done last week, too.  I still have a couple of tall stacks of magazines to either throw away or go through and cut out what I want to keep.  That is one job that I can do a little at a time.

I adore salads.  I also adore the meatloaf and mashed potatoes I fixed for Sunday dinner.  Plus another batch of blueberry muffins that are
super yummy.  I posted the link to the recipe a couple of blog posts ago.

My dear aunt's salad dressing is a favorite of ours and I keep a jar of it made up in the fridge to put on tossed salad.   Above is the recipe that she wrote down and gave to me many years ago.  You can see by the stains on the card how old and well used this recipe is!

Last week was a busy one and I didn't do a very good job at keeping up with everyone in blog land.  When I did peek at my blog list on my sidebar one day, I was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Tina, EG Camera Girl, and her husband due to a car wreck.  She will be missed.

We get an extra day this month as today is Leap Day.  I don't know about you, but I could use some extra days and hours.  They are moving by too fast.  I know that I talk about that a lot, but it's true.  Everyone seems to be talking about it.  Back to Leap Day...anyone out there have a birthday today?  Do you do anything special for this once-every-4-years day?

The patio was cleaned up last week, too.  I'm ready for spring and getting my flower pots on the patio planted and I long to just see some green after a long, brown winter.  We worked some at The Project over the weekend and I noticed some tulips and jonquils coming up in the yard there.  The bluebirds have begun nesting, too.  I love seeing these sweet signs of spring!
Enjoy your extra day this month!

  1. That looks like a great salad dressing recipe! The wind yesterday... crazy. We stayed in too and watched a movie, I wanted to walk but it was more wind than I wanted to deal with. Very sad about EG Camera Girl and her Husband. Enjoy your Monday!

  2. Hi Cheryl, Just trying to get a few 'catch up' visits in! I hear you about chasing dust bunnies- I have not gotten much done this past few weeks at all- So ready for a good Spring cleaning. Sorry to hear about EG Canmera Girl. By any chance was that the couple that was killed in WI last week? Hope you had a great month! xo Diana

  3. I meant Camera Girl- need to proofread better!

  4. Omigosh! I had not heard that. How very sad. Both? Oh my. Horrible news.

I had been saving a very large drawing pad for my grands by tucking it behind the jelly cupboard. I pulled it out for the boys to use Saturday and out came some dust bunnies, too. Humiliating!

  5. Dust bunnies certainly do find a life . . . don't they . . .
We have one area in our basement that belongs to my hubs . . .
I think he has saved every stick, screw, nail in history . . .
    I threaten . . . he doesn't listen . . .
    Happy Leap Year Day!

  6. Happy Leap Day to you! Chasing dust dunnies is not fun, but I guess it must be done. It was sad to hear about the loss of our blogging sister Tina. She will be missed. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!

  7. I woke up energized the nice weather and extra day! I sure will miss our sweet Tina too. Sweet hugs, Diane

  8. i'm certain installers and repairmen see all sorts of dreadful things much worse than your basement area. :)

  9. that dressing is something i will try. i have my mothers old cards she made for me in 1962. they are stained to. YES YES YES time is on super fast forward and getting faster by the day. to day is the day that is not..

  10. Hi Cheryl~

I'm so happy that spring is almost here! We have had a few days of low 50's . . . I'll take it! I need some house plants! On almost every blog I've looked at lately, I see these beautiful green houseplants that just look so beautiful, your's are no exception. M

My husband and I are trying to eat better - more green salads, no sugar, boring, boring, boring. We east lots of green salad; I can't wait to try your aunt's salad dressing, it looks really good!

I do have a nephew who was born on leap day! I'm not sure how old he is. In real life, he is in his thirties, in leap year life . . . I think he is 8 . . . :0)

So sorry about your blogging buddy, it's always hard when you lose someone in the blogging world. I'm sure she will be missed my many.

The birds have returned to Idaho, and I just love hearing all the chirping in the pine trees . . . ahhhhhh spring!

    Have a great lean day!

  11. Your Sunday dinner sounds wonderful. I cannot wait to get back to eating salads again. We don't eat them in the winter. I miss my cold smoothies too. We had a strong wind here last night and I thought it was going to blow the roof off.

  12. I feel that way when the termite guy makes his annual inspection and flashes his light behind everything that normally never gets moved. This year I did my own flashlight search before he came and Swiffered the stew out of the house.
That recipe looks simple and tasty. I will try it.
So sorry you lost a blog buddy. I wasn't a follower but a lot of my followers were.

  13. I always breathe a sigh of relief when those service people leave. It's a bit humiliating to have them crawling around in the corners often used to stash messes :). I'm sure they do see all kinds of things in their line of work.
That salad looks tasty and the dressing sounds good too. I can hardly wait for "real" tomatoes.
I was not acquainted with the blogger that you mentioned, but can imagine how shocking the news was. So sad to learn that she and her husband were taken so suddenly.

  14. I am very ready for spring, but I know I must be patient for a while longer.

  15. Love your plants, so pretty! My need to be repotted also. I have a friend I hope will do it in the near future. So sorry to hear about camera girl such a tragedy. I know what you mean about dust bunnies. My computer guy will have to crawl under the desk every so often, and I'm always apologizing, and he says, this is clean compared many others I run into... But I'm still embarrassd. Enjoy March!!

  16. Those area of the house where we have our electronics certainly do draw the dust bunnies! I always dread cleaning in those areas. I have so much cleaning to do it makes me exhausted just thinking about it!

  17. So good to visit you a minute...boy, I am with you on time flying by. It just seems to be gone, but at least that meant winter didn't seem so long this year. Of course it is not over, either. But won't be long. On Saturday I actually sat on the porch and read a little while. I never thought I would live to see the day where I wouldn't mind living where there is no winter, but I am almost to that point.

  18. We just started our spring cleaning. It was like a spring day here today, so lovely. Love seeing all the wildlife. :)

  19. Yes, I was shocked by the loss of Tina and her, Sally of Blue Monday fame has passed away due to heart trouble. She was sick a long time.

  20. I adore meatloaf and mashed potatoes too. And in one of your posts I wanted to jump through the screen for those blueberry muffins!

I'm so sorry about the loss of your blog friend, Cheryl. May she and her husband rest in peace.

    hugs to you,

  21. I didn't pay much attention to Leap day- I don't know why. But I am really paying attention to the change in weather...can't wait for spring to officially get here, and I am loving these pretty days.

  22. I liked the thought of a spring starting to come in. It was warm here for a few days and then tonight we started with a sleet snow. Hopefully not a big storm. I need to feel warm. Since we are on a mission I am not sure if we will have much of a garden; except maybe a small patio one. I would like to plant some families. The dressing recipe looked yummy; thanks for that one.
I am happy you got the TV/ phone / internet going. What would we do without all of that. Sorry to hear about friends getting in an accident. I really love my blogging friends like you so this can be sad for sure. Have a great week and I hope you have a restful day to read and do what you want. You do work hard a lot. Blessings and hugs!

  23. I admire all your energy. You've been busy, busy!
