The Weekend ~ The Weather ~ The Wussy

The weather...we had close to 4 inches of snow by Monday morning.  Nothing like what has fallen on the northeast.  I honestly don't know how they are coping with those amounts.  I feel sorry for the farm animals and wildlife trying to survive in those conditions, too.

The weekend...we were talking to our son on Saturday and he asked us if we wanted to come for a visit and to eat some of that excellent Kansas City BBQ.  Well, we thought about that for a couple of minutes and decided to throw a few things in a bag for an overnight and off we went.  He bought us a yummy dinner for Valentine's Day and then we ate the BBQ the next day before leaving for home.  We visited him in KC last month and we ate at Gate's BBQ and I've been in love ever since!  My meal came on a plate, but BG's and son's were in a box pictured above.   We had a great time in spite of my hobbling around.

Call me a wussy... for I've been grunting and groaning for too long.  In addition to having had tendonitis in my left ankle, which is much better now, and a sore knee which is somewhat better, I had to have some surgery on my big toe Friday afternoon.  And a little work was done on the next toe.  Both were taped together, but I pulled a sock on and slipped on some sandals and hobbled on along!  If you see any dirt on my foot, I'm here to tell ya that they were super clean before all this work was done, but I was not to get it wet for 3 days which will be up tomorrow.  The pain has been bad enough that I make sure I'm taking my Advil every 4 hours.  The doc gave me a prescription for a strong pain pill, but I don't like to take narcotics.  The weekend trip was good to take my mind off of it.  Monday was a lazy day and with the snow, I didn't think I'd better go out walking in sandals.  So I stayed in and napped a lot and it was so nice!

It's a very late entry, but I'm linking to Amy's Barn Collective

Happy Tuesday to you!

  1. That barbecue looks scrumptious. YUMMY! It was bad enough you had to deal with the pain in your knee and ankle. Sorry to hear about your toe surgery, too. I once broke my big toe so I know how much it can hurt. Definitely do not attempt to go outside in the snow with it like that. Certainly hope it heals soon. I do not like using painkillers either, so I know how you feel. Please take care of yourself. Loved seeing the kitty cat in the background of your photo.

  2. Poor you. I would have thought it would have been better resting the tows for a few days without putting on sandels and walking on your feet! I think when you napped a lot your body was telling you this was good for you.Hope all improved very soon.

  6. That bandaged toe looks painful!! I don't take a narcotic when prescribed either, but I do fill the prescription, just in case. Glad to hear you were able to hobble out to enjoy a BBQ, and that is a gorgeous barn photo.

  9. Cheryl, Gates Bar.B.Q. is worth hobbling on your poor toe, right? Still, seeing your toes wrapped up makes me a bit weak in the knees. Glad you headed to KC and had a good time. We almost went there Friday night with CH's brother and wife but CH had to have a redo on a root canal Wed and he wasn't wanting to travel to Sedalia to stay with them and head to KC. We have about three inches of snow. Now for the cold blast and more wintry mix stuff Friday! I see a lucky kitty living a life of leisure... :)

  15. Love the barn, looks like one from around here. Ouch, I hope the pain is subsiding for you. On our way to Texas we tried stopping in Kansas City for dinner at a BBQ place the one we found was Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que but it was closing in 30 minutes and there were 38 people in line (hubby counted them) LOL. So we kept on moving on down the road. I'll have to keep your place in mind the next time we head south.

  18. Oh no! Why did you need the toe surgery? Ouch!! I love the picture of your foot with the cat in the background! He is just relaxing and feeling fine while you are in pain. We have been stuck in here for days and more snow tomorrow. We likely won't get out until the end of the week. Can you say Cabin Fever?

  20. Bless your heart.... That looks painful... I know what you mean about taking narcotics. BUT-I had so much pain in my knee that I had to take them. AND--they about killed me... Hate those things.

That BBQ sounds good --and I'm sure you loved just being with your son... How special for Valentine's Day!!!!

We had a horrible ICE Storm yesterday --but luckily, we didn't lose our electricity nor any trees in our yard. It's still scary and dangerous to have that much ice around.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  26. Bless your heart. Feet problems of any kind are such a struggle and can be so painful...not to mention how much they restrict us. Hopefully you are resting it this week. The barn and snow sure go together to make a beautiful sight.
