My Week So Far

I'm going to tell on myself this morning.  Oh, it's not earthshaking news because I lead a fairly simple life.  And that suits me just fine because....I love the sweet, simple things in life.

What I did was almost ruin our dinner last night because I was busy hanging out the window gawking at the birds and trying to get a decent shot with the rain coming down.  Has that ever happened to you?

Do you ever get so engrossed in birdwatching or whateverwatching and forget everything else?  What is that Goldfinch looking at anyway?  I managed to save dinner from getting too burned, but it was close!

While I was at the window, I saw Bambi prancing across the field toward the pond for a drink.  Sorry my shots aren't very clear.  Part of the problem is that it was raining and the light was poor.  And zooming this far doesn't help under those conditions, either.

Even Mr. Bluebird looks all wet and ruffled up.

I took this photo the other day at the lookout over the Missouri River.  As you can see, it was raining that day, too.  The river is looking low compared to the last time I was at the lookout.  This shot and the zinnia was taken with the new camera I bought.  The others are with my other camera.  The weather hasn't been the best for testing the new camera, but I won't complain.  We need the rain.

Several of you have asked me what my new camera was.  Here she is....the lady in red!  I won't go into the details of the camera, I'll let you google that information if you're interested.  I will tell you that I love the size.  I can easily put it into a pocket.  And, I love the color!

What I don't particularly like is that you have to charge the battery while it is in the camera.  And, the battery is only good for about 200 photos.  Also, while charging, you have to take out the memory card which you need to buy separately as the internal memory only holds about 5 shots.

I have several days in which to decide if it's a keeper.  There is a lot I haven't done with it yet.  The weather has been a factor because most of my shooting with it will be outside.  So far, from the photos I've taken, I've liked some and didn't like others.  I realize that I can't expect to get high end photos from such a small camera, but it has taken some nice photos from the shots I've seen online.  It has gotten some really good reviews, which is what lead me to buy it in the first place.   I have to make a decision soon!

Until next time...

  3. My engrossment is when I'm studying, either in the Bible or some other books I'm engrossed with learning more about Jesus & walking with him, etc. More and more it's all I want to do, but the "requirements" of maintaining a home etc. creep in and must be attended to!!!!! My husband is the bird watcher, etc. I just enjoy the labor and joy of his hands around our lovely yard he maintains. :o)

  6. You are so precious! I'm guilty as well, of almost burning dinner... Only because I'm zoned in to something else. I have a big camera with a lg lens, but let me tell you, I prefer a smaller camera over the big one. It's great to be able to have it with you at all times. I think you are going to enjoy it. Love all the wildlife you shared. Sending blessings your way.

  7. That first photo is a stunner. I just stopped and stared for a minute. Gorgeous.
So glad you were able to rescue your dinner.
Thanks for sharing your new camera info. When I need to upgrade I'm looking for one that captures close ups of the birds and also captures bokeh shots. Don't know if that's possible with a point and shoot, but I don't think I'd do all the tinkering involved with the fancy cameras.
Your photos always look great to me.

  9. Well, now I know...I just would really like something small to take in stores...LOL And would also like one that was somewhat water proof or water resistant.

  11. Great photos. I have a little point and shoot that I like pretty well but I know you don't get the quality pictures you do with a camera of better quality. Your week looks good! xo Diana

  12. Great photos - even in the rain. I am often caught taking pix when I really should be watching the stove/the laundry/the whatever. But is is worth it.

If I might suggest a camera - Canon Super PowerShot - there are different ones to pick from - I have the 12 - it is wonderful. Fits in my pocket - zooms to 12X, which is good enough for quick shots, has a removable battery, making it easy to recharge (I bought two extra batteries and keep them charged so I don't miss any shots), you can use a cable to get the pix off the camera - or take out the card and use the card reader on my laptop (which is my choice).

It is a handy size - rides in my pocket almost all the time - has a big screen on the back for seeing what you are photographing - no peeking through a tiny viewfinder - though it does have one but I can't imagine why one would want to use it.

Hope you enjoy whichever camera you decide on - just makes pictures all the more fun to have a little pocket friend.

  13. Hi Cheryl, your photos are beautiful, even with the rain, yes, I have been guilty of getting preoccupied with one thing and forgetting another. `smile~
I really need to study my camera a little more closely and work on my skills. lol
I so enjoyed your Barn Charm post, especially the horses and pigeons.. It feels as though I have been gone for a very long time, and have a lot of catching up to do.
Thanks for always sharing God's beautiful creations.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  15. My last three cameras have all been Nikons, and I love them! I love the way their huge Japanese lenses gather in all the light in the dusk. I have the 550, I think that is what it is. But this one is so cute and such a pretty red! Even in spite of the light and the distance, I can see the bluebird very clearly! And a great picture of the river. I am off now to look at your camera specs and price!

  16. Hi Cheryl, Good Luck with a new camera... I would not like having to charge the battery that way. My Canon (you can get a small one) batteries come out. I have two --and keep them both charged. I can take tons of photos before changing it.. Then I just change it --so that I don't have to miss anything. You might want to check out one of the smaller Canons... Canons are usually a little cheaper than Nikons --but I think they are just as good.

Great pictures. I have almost burned dinner too before getting distracted by the birds and critters outside.... Such is life.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. I like the little red camera! I am about due for a new point and shoot. They take great shots and easy to carry around. I had a Nikon and a Canon. I think the Nikon took the best pictures.

  19. Oh, and, yes, I've messed up supper a few times while I followed my own pursuits. Sigh,

  20. How nice you actually got a shot of your deer. Mine remains a mystery caller.
What I am worst about is letting the water for the hummingbird nectar boil away. Something always distracts me.

  21. Yes, I have ruined more than one dinner from being sidetracked by something else. I continue to enjoy the photos. I like the small sized camera too. So I will be anxious to see you decide on this one.
    Blessings!

  22. It's sooo easy to lose track of time when you're watching birds and/or taking photos. ;)

The new camera sounds interesting even if it does have a few flaws. I'm going to check it out on line.

  23. LOL! I may or may not have lost track of time while cooking dinner (I'm taking the 5th). LOL!

I think there is a lot to be said for easy portability in that camera. And, the photos I've seen that you've taken with it are great. I'll be interested to hear your final decision. Red is perfect for you, Cheryl!! blessings ~ tanna

  24. Good Morning Cheryl! Well the Wi-Fi is a fun plus. My little Canon PowerShot has that feature. I wouldn't be crazy about the battery charging deal. I like JoAnn's suggestion up there in comments.. ;) And I am a Nikon gal too. I almost bought a Nikon point and squirt before I decided on the Canon PowerShot! It couldn't hurt to give it a try. On the other hand you know what you are comfortable with and what makes you happy. Good luck in your decision! It is beautiful today in our state of Missouri, we are out the door in a bit for a day of running around! Enjoy your Thursday Cheryl!

  25. Wonderful pictures! What was the goldfinch looking at? I wouldn't dare put food on the stove and start taking pictures; I completely lose track of time while I'm taking pictures.

  26. I've wanted one of those. Takes good pics. I'd keep it if it was me.

  27. I use a Nikon Coolpix S8100 for my blog. I love that it fits in my purse and I carry it with me all the time. I wanted to upgrade my camera, so I bought a Nikon Coolpix P520. Still working on how to use it. It is a tight squeeze to get it in my purse, camera bag and all!
