I Think The Rodent Was Wrong!

We just shoveled our way out from under the last snow storm which began last Thursday and now we are facing another big storm due to arrive sometime tonight and into tomorrow.  That is our snow shovel in the driveway above.  We got around 12 inches last week and we might get 8 inches more with the next storm.  Now I know those of you who live in the northern states and out east are probably already yawning, but this was our first significant snowfall this year and it was a Big Deal to us!

It was snowing so heavily that you can barely see the pond I was shooting out my dirty kitchen window that morning and was amazed to see that the finches were busily eating at the feeder during the blizzard.  Take note of the amount of seed in the feeder.

We had a break in the snow in late afternoon and the sun came out very briefly.  Check out the seed in the finch feeder now.  The finches didn't let a little blizzard stop them from eating, but they were a bit messy judging by all the seed on the snow below.

Stormy wasn't concerned about the snow storm at all.  While I was pacing the floor and worrying about my loved ones until they were safely home, she decided to take a nap at one of her favorite spots when I'm in the kitchen.  A lot of cups of hot chocolate and coffee and bowls of soup were fixed in this kitchen those snowy days.

It did warm up above the freezing mark over the weekend and a bit of the snow melted, but we still have plenty left.  The sun looked so good and I thought that Saturday would be a good day to get out.  I was getting cabin fever.  So my husband and I hopped in the car and went to one of my favorite flea market/antique malls.  We spent a couple of hours or so looking aroundWe weren't alone, there were a number of others browsing and I decided they must have had cabin fever, too.  I didn't find what I was looking for, so we came home with only a few books that I couldn't resist and 4 Paula Deen magazines that were only a quarter each.  How was your weekend?

Until next time...

  1. Wow, that's a lot of snow! We still haven't had even sleet this year...not even much rain!

  2. You all really have taken a whipping this year. We just get the left over crumbs from your storms here in N. Arkansas. We get all the nasty and none of the pretty. Enjoy and glad you can get out occasionally.

  3. The weather, these past few years is so strange, isn't it? The flea market and antique shopping sounds like a perfect treatment for cabin fever. :)

  4. Now I'm wishing I would have left the 'homestead' for a little while over the weekend. Sheesh, cabin fever has set in big time! Your kitty has a grand life, I can tell. Take care out there! -Tammy

  7. Your title made me giggle this morning and I would say you are right about that rodent. Wow, that is a lot of snow!
Your trip to the antique mall sounds like just the ticket for cabin fever.
I hope the next storm is kinder to you.

  8. Your snow was so pretty, Cheryl. Down here in Springfield we got mostly ice! Kept us in Thurs. and Fri., but did quite a bit of melting over the weekend. I don't know what to expect from the storm coming through tonight, but we are prepared. Have a nice day! Twyla

  9. Yep it's coming Cheryl! I think this one and the last one are going to make a dent in the drought and the ponds may just fill up a bit. We got 6 inches of snow and sleet and we will see what comes. They are saying rain later today and then 2 to 4 inches of snow. We had to go to Sedalia for the weekend and they got a ton of snow but I don't think it was as bad as your pictures!

  11. I agree, the stoopid rodent got it wrong!

My finches seem to have abandoned me for the winter. My feeder (identical to yours, by the way) stays full. Maybe I need to check and make sure it isn't clogged or something.

    Hope your cabinets are full!

  12. I wondered about you and if you were getting the huge amount of snow. We had mostly ice. i can't seem to get rid of it in my driveway (faces north).

The rodent WAS wrong. I hate to tell you that they are saying that more snow heading your way.

  13. Great photos Cheryl. I hope the next coming storm isn't so bad. It's going to affect us here in the northeast by Thursday I think. There are always lots of birds at the feeders before and during a storm. That's one way I can tell when one is coming other than the weather forecasters. :) Stay safe!

  14. You share your snow with us, for sure!

    And your kitty, and birdies.

Love seeing a slice of life, of my blogger friends.

  15. That rodent doesn't know anything! You are going to have a pretty spring and summer with all that snow feeding the ponds, lakes and rivers. I guess you have to look at it at how much everything will look from all that moisture later. I do know that cabin fever can be the worst!

  16. My goodness, that much snow would bring us to a stand still down here... We got some ice, but it was gone the next day. So sorry, Cheryl! Prayerfully, the coming snow storm will disappear or miss ya'll all together.

  18. That's a HUGE snow but I'm glad you got out for a little while! It helps keep cabin fever away! I was at the Park this weekend...it was warm here...in the 80s! That seems weird doesn't it? Even for me! Sweet hugs!

  19. Hi Cheryl, Thanks for putting the email gadget on your sidebar for me... I appreciate it.

Wow---you all really got slammed, didn't you? And -more is coming???? Mercy Me!!!! It would be a big deal to us also!!!!! Be careful if you have to go out and about.

I worry about your hubby and those who have to work OUT in that weather...

  20. Your title and photo cracked me up! Very funny! I'm so sorry you are getting so much snow, but glad you're safe! And glad you and hubby did get out of the house. :)
I visited a couple of thrift stores this weekend and our son had a bunch of friends over. Nothing too crazy. :)

  21. Amazing pictures, the difference between the pond in the snow and clouds, you can't even see it. Then when the sun came out and there it is! Your cat is really pretty! I hope you get a break soon form the non-stop snow!!

  22. You guys got hit hard down there. We just escaped that last round of snow, however, the new batch is said to be headed straight for my backyard. We will see.
Give that kitty a scratch right down to her tail for me.

  23. I remember getting cabin fever - I guess now we could say we are having rain fever. Hey that is a lot of snow. Why do you have your shovel sticking up like that?

  24. Yours will melt faster and it'll be good for replenishing the water tables. That snow is going to make refilling that bird feeder very exciting. Take care!

  26. Wow, that was quite the storm and today there was more I guess. I talked with my daughter who lives in peculiar, Missouri. She was happy about all of the snow because of drought conditions in that area. There was suppose to be another big storm today. I was a little concerned about her roof; hoping the heavy snow would not be a problem. Her husband is in Nebraska and she is home alone with her 5 children.
We have had three snow storms this past week so I am looking forward to spring.
I enjoyed reading about your day and your trip out. Stay safe!
    Blessings!
