Super Bowl Commercials

Did you watch the Super Bowl?  I didn't watch much of it, but heard about a couple of the commercials that were favorites and checked them out on Youtube.  If you haven't seen them, they are definitely worth watching.  The first one is narrated by the incomparable Paul Harvey.  It's titled "So God Made a Farmer".  Since I grew up on a farm...you may have noticed that by my blog name :)...this commercial was really was special to me even though my dad nor my hubby ever drove a R.am truck.  Be sure to click at the bottom right corner for the Full Screen.

The other commercial I really liked was the commercial with the Clydesdale.  I was told that part of this commercial was filmed at the Clydesdale ranch in my area I must say that it caused me to tear up a bit at the end.

I really didn't have a favorite team until I realized Michael Oher was playing for the Ravens.  You may remember him from the movie  "Blindside".   I'm sure he would prefer to be thought of as a football player and not in connection to a movie.  However, I'm happy his team won!  I haven't been a huge football fan since Joe Montana was playing for the 49er's and then the KC Chiefs before retiring.  I'll have to share a photo of Joe and yours truly standing together.  Yes, I was thisclose to the superstar quarterback!  I'll leave this story for another post...if I can find the photo!

Until next time...

  2. I posted about our family having a Super Bowl Commercial Party! Most of us didn't watch a bit of the game, but when we heard the music meaning they were going to commercials, we all got quiet and watched and laughed and cried! There's no better commercials than on Super Bowl Sunday! We also loved the Dodge truck God Made Farmers commercial. We loved Paul Harvey...with the rest of the story!

  3. Well, first thing this morning I recieved a phone call from my sister asking if I had seen parts of the Clydesdale commercial on one of the morning shows. My sis ter was crying asnd asking me - "Why did we have to give up our farm so many years ago and my horse.?...I loved that horse." And now I just see the You Tube video about the Love of a Farmer and my eyes are full of tears. My ancestors and father...as well as your family and millions of others work so hard ...TO BE A FARMER. Everything that Paul Harvey spoke of is true ...true tight down to the bottom of the worn out boots. I am so proud to be a farmer's daughter. I am so proud to be able to tell my children all about our dairy, horse and crop farm. You see, my Dad died at 41 years of age. I was 18 with 2younger sisters and one 10 year old brother. Mom sold the farm. It was too big for her to run by herself. That's when the cows and horses were sold and our lives changed. But I am still a "daughter of a farmer" and so are you. It is something to marvel at and to be proud that God gave us our time on a farm with a farm Dad.

Thank you for writing this. I so loved it.

  5. Aren't those Clydesdales amazing? I saw them up close once in stalls and they are HUGE. I had to reach up to touch their noses.
I missed the Paul Harvey one but my computer is too slow to play videos. However, I did tape the show and will check it out.
I am impressed that you got to rub elbows with Joe Montana.

  6. I am not a sports fan but I started watching this one, after the lights came back on, and thoroughly enjoyed it!!! Like you I was for the Raven's just because of that young man's story (although I've never seen the movie). The Paul Harvey commercial was so moving.

  7. I teared up on both of these ;) Not often I can watch an ad more than once - on purpose - but I love these two (and we are a FORD fam)! I did not know about the Blind Side guy being in the game. That would have made it more interesting to me! We will be watching for your superstar picture :) Have a great week! -Tammy

  12. Oh those were both great commercials. I have wept both times on the Clydesdale one. John and I visited the Clydesdales in Merrimack, New Hampshire while on our honeymoon. What a magnificent place and we were there all alone. How odd.

Anyway, I think the first appeals to our need to get back to basics in this country. I'm glad that someone, somewhere has noticed. The second reminds me of the theme from War Horse.

  13. I have to admit I didn't watch the game at all. Thanks for sharing these commercials, I will admit again that I got teary eyed watching both of them :) Now I wish I had watched it I would have seen Michael Oher play and see these two commercials. I grew up a city girl but always longed for the country life, and since moving out to the country I've come to really respect and appreciate farmers and their hard work and dedication to the life they live.

  18. You picked two of my favorites. Both made me cry. The little boy in the farmer one looked so much like my grandson, who lives on a farm. The Clydesdale... wow. We are lucky to be able to claime them as our own around here. My other favorite was the Taco Bell one. I want to be like those people when I get old!

  21. My daughter and son-in-law had a Superbowl party, and while I spent most of the time on the floor playing with my grandsons, I did enjoy both commercials you mentioned! I saw the Buswiser Clydesdale horses on a trip to Virginia years ago - they are such magnificent horses! The God made Farmers commercial brought a tear to my eyes. My ancestors were miners, not farmers, but they grew their own food and lived as equally rugged lives. No they never had a RAM truck, or any truck or car for that matter. Times may be bad, but not as bad as they were back then!

PS: Everyone here in Colorado were heartbroken the Broncos were not in the bowl! Maybe next year! :)

  23. I was going to do about this exact post! These were my two favorite commercials...and if Michael had not been on one team, not sure I would have even watched.

  24. PS...I was a farmer's daughter...and no RAM truck at our home either....but at the orchard I worked at there was one...and I got to drive it sometimes!

  29. Thanks for sharing the videos; cute.
We did really watch the game. However 4 of the players on the Raven's team are members of our church. I loved the movie Blindside. I guess we should have recorded it.
    Blessings and hugs!

  31. We didn't watch the game, but I watched these 2 the next day online and agree they were the best. Others were tasteless and in questionable taste in my opinion.
