This covered bridge is in Madison County, Iowa. It is the longest
of the 6 remaining covered bridges in Madison Co., and was
featured in the movie "The Bridges of Madison County."
My son was traveling through Iowa recently and captured these
images on his phone and shared them with me.
Here's a look inside the bridge.
The Imes Bridge is the oldest of the remaining bridges.
I haven't thought to ask, but I think the color in the photo is due to the reflection of the sun and the time of day. Thank you, Brett, for sending me these images to share! I have a few more shots that he sent me of a barn and also the home where a famous movie star, who starred primarily in Western films, was born. Can you name that star? I'll share those photos and the answer to this question another day.
Until next time...
i love covered bridges. that movie was so great. two awesome actors. need to see it again soon. i would love to see this one in person. what great views. thank you for sharing them. (:
ReplyDeleteThough I was not a fan of the book and haven't seen the movie, I am a fan of the bridge! Hmmm, movie actor born in Iowa...John Wayne? Gary Cooper? Hmmm, I'm curious!
ReplyDeleteI don't know the star, but that was one of my favorite books EVER! And, I enjoyed the movie, too. Such beautiful old bridges!! blessings ~ tanna

i am a big Western fan but don't know the trivia about them. can't wait to see who it is. these are very odd looking, nothing like the few i have seen, and since i did not see bridge of madison county this is my first viewing.
ReplyDeleteYou know what this reminds me of - The Bridges of Madison County. So beautiful. I'd love to see it. I don't know if I have seen one or not. Love, sandie
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl!
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the strange people who haven't seen, "Bridges of Madison County", but I love covered bridges!!
What beautiful pictures!!
Hugs,
Barb
I just took photos of a covered bridge in Indiana, but have not posted them yet. I LOVE those bridges, especially on the inside. Just a beautiful testament to the past. Bridges of Madison County was one of my moms favorite movies.
ReplyDeleteQuite a few years ago we toured the Bridges of Madison County. It was so much fun. I'm going to have to try to find those pictures back! We also tried to tour Jessica's house, but it was already closed for the day. It was cool to see, though. I think I read somewhere that a few of the bridges used in the movie were destroyed by vandals. That makes me sad!
ReplyDeleteThat is sure one long covered bridge. I love seeing them but this is the first long one I have seen.
ReplyDeletethere aren't many left and these are beautiful!!
ReplyDeletecould be john wayne??
the bridges of madison county, an awesome film!!
I have not seen a covered bridge quite like that first one ever...it is really neat!
ReplyDeleteI love covered bridges and I loved the movie. I really want to visit them.
ReplyDeleteI think covered bridges are so interesting. This one is especially cool!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, wonderful! I love covered bridges, and my favorite movie is Bridges of Madison County.
ReplyDeleteI loved this book! A friend of mine gave it to me about fifteen years ago. I've never seen the movie. These are beautiful photos. Covered bridges are just so neat looking. :)
ReplyDeleteI once did a research project on the covered bridges....so, I know the answer is John Wayne. Hasn't this bridge been moved to a different location with no actual road? That movie is one of my all-time favorites!
ReplyDeleteWe've had a lot of fun searching out covered bridges when we travel. I'll have to keep these in Iowa in mind. I've not seen "The Bridges of Madison County" but perhaps I'll have to look for it.
ReplyDeleteWhat great views of those old covered bridges! And how nice that your son takes photos for you too... it is wonderful when they are supportive of our habits!
ReplyDelete6 remaining covered bridges in that county alone? WoW! There's only 4 remaining in all of Missouri! =0
ReplyDeleteThat is a very interesting shape for a covered bridge. Great shots.
