A Double Rainbow and Plans

"Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue..."

It thundered a time or two last night and then the rain began.  Only to last a few minutes...sigh.  Earlier, in Kansas City, my son happened to be driving through a nice shower and snapped this photo of a double rainbow.  Doesn't his iphone take wonderful shots, even from inside the car and through the windshield?  I love that Old Glory is proudly waving in front of the rainbow!

We haven't gotten very far from home all summer, unless you count the Lake of the Ozarks and a few day trips.  It's just been too hot to even think about a big vacation.  Well, I must admit I've thought about it, but haven't been motivated to plan anything.  That time is looming on the horizon...as in a few weeks.  We are planning a 2 week trip somewhere.  We're tentatively planning on a repeat trip out west following much the same route as we did a few years ago.  It was a fabulous trip and we got to see a lot of beautiful places such as the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Hoover Dam, to name a few, and we'd love to see these wonderful places again.  I love the scenery out west!

But, there's a lot of other places that I haven't been that are also calling my name.  Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands are on my bucket list.  So are the Smoky Mountains.  And, of course, there's Branson...where I have been many times but dearly love...and just relaxing in the condo and taking in a few shows and Silver Dollar City sounds good.  Maybe taking a little jaunt down to Eureka Springs in Arkansas.  I doubt we would want to stay there a full 2 weeks, though.

Do you know that in 41 years of marriage, this will only be my second vacation that has lasted 2 weeks?  Well, third if you consider we took 2 weeks last summer with a week or so break in between trips.  We went to Branson for a week, then later drove through part of Arkansas and into Tennessee.  My hubby was recovering from his heart attack and we didn't want to get very far from good medical facilities.

HELP!!  Hubby says any of these destinations would be fine with him, I get to choose!!  Do you know how tough it is for me to choose when I have 2 or more choices??  Okay, I have to ask.  If you were/are planning a vacation, where would you go?  If you were given the choices that I've named, which would you choose?  Don't worry.  I won't let your answers sway my decision.  I think I already know what it will be, but there's just the tiniest bit of indecision going on.

Until next time...

  1. If you were going to be there the weekend of the 19th of this month, I would say come to Pigeon Forge in the Smoky Mountains - I am going to be there on the afternoon of the 19th and leave morning of the 23rd. That would be GREAT fun! But, any of those places is a great place - we went to Grand Canyon last year in January and nearly froze - not a good time to go! I have not been to Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands - that's on my bucket list too. Loved Branson, and will probably go back next year. Decisions...I usually make them and hubby goes along. Wherever you go it will be fun! Enjoy!

  2. Oh, Cheryl, we have the same indecision issue!! LOL! And, we have NEVER had two weeks in a row. I can't imagine that... yet. All of the places you have mentioned are on our "possibles" and then there is Lake Tahoe and Santa Fe and we love D.C.... the list goes on and on... I feel your pain, sister! I look forward to seeing where you choose. blessings ~ tanna

  3. What a fantastic photo!!!!!!! All ways. Your son is on-the-ball, noticing and with camera at the ready!

Haven't been reading here long enough, to know that your husband had a heart attack last year. So happy that all was well and is well.

I don't live in your neck of the woods, so have no "vaca" suggestions.

    Gentle hugs,
    "Auntie"

  10. What a beautiful picture with the flag waving. Gives me the chills kind of.

You have such a sweet son to send you all these great pictures. It shows he must be thinking of you as he goes about his day. Good job raising a kind hearted kid, Mom!

  11. I have never seen a double rainbow before.

And a two week vacation and you get to pick where! Almost too much pressure.

I know you will pick the best place for you.

    I'm excited for you too.

    Love, sandie

  12. IF you decide to head back out to Grand Canyon take some time to stop in NM - in Albuquerque ride the tram up the Sandia Crest. Then you must drive to Santa Fe, about 60 miles north, to see all the delightful sights of this 2nd oldest city in the U.S. You will not be disappointed.

I've been to Eureka Springs...cute...don't need to return. I guess I'd choose Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands.

  20. I love the picture. I haven'thad any two week trips. The longest was a cruise several year ago and then a 10 day trip through Nauvoo, Illinois and Missouri areas. Our trips are always associated with all our children. This year we probably won't get away except maybe for 3 or 4 days. We lived in Spokane Washington and we loved going over to Coeur d'Alene Idaho there is a beautiful lake. Also, I love the Seattle area. A few of my friends love the Oregon coast. There are alot of places in Utah that are fun. Just thought I broaden your choices.
Mainly, just enjoy the moments of being together.

  23. Vacations here have gone by the wayside for the past decade. You are so blessed to be getting the opportunity to take one. I loved Eureka Springs in Arkansas. I'd go back again in a heartbeat. Good Luck with your decision. Whatever you do ENJOY this time away.

  24. We saw the double rainbows here but it was raining so I didn't get a picture.

I can never make decisions, but would tend to go where there was more green views!

I can beat your record. In 51 years of marriage we have never taken a vacation, period! I am not complaining; just stating a fact. WE like short excursions, but come evening I want to be home.

  25. I love the photo...would you believe I have never been on a two week vacation...been married 36 years. For years, any time we got time off and had money, we went home to Tennessee. But even that a week was the max.

If I had two weeks and could go anywhere, I am sure it would be either Alaska or west...or north and west. I would love to go up through Minnesota and then over....through the Dakotas and over into montana, possibly Utah and Washington...but you know, I just don't have fun just hurrying to get somewhere...I want to travel the backroads....so might just settle on a shorter destination and use my time to travel the backroads.
