Hair talk...

Do you or don't you?  Use hairspray, that is.  My hair is super fine and if I don't put on a little hairspray, it won't hold  a style.  I don't really like the stuff and especially now that they've seemed to change the formula in my brand to a more sticky, gooey concoction.   Once it's dried, there is no way my hair will move even if the wind is blowing 50 mph!  :D  I wish it didn't have that "sprayed" look or stiffness, but it's that or limp hair.

The photo on the left is a little more styled with a mist of hairspray to hold in place.  Hair on the right is in need of a style and spray.  (Why my wall in the photo on the left looks dark, I don't know.  It is the same wall as on the right.  The lighting was different I guess on the two different days these were taken.)

These are the necessary products that keep my hair in place.  My daughter says the two in front are less likely to be sticky and heavy, the two in back leave clumps of what we call glue in the hair.

Maybe I just need a new hairstyle!  A friend of mine wears her hair super short and doesn't have to do much with it.   I wish I could wear that style!   Or some gals wear their hair long pulled back in a low ponytail and it looks good.  That doesn't look good on me either.  So I guess my question today is...do you wear hairspray and do you have a good one that holds a style with out appearing too glued together?   Do you have fine hair like me or do you have that lovely hair that holds a style?  If you are, ahem, older like I am...do you find that your hair is less manageable than it used to be?  Or do we even care what our hair looks like as we once did?

I know...a lot of questions.  But I'm really curious about hair today.  Especially since summer and the accompanying humidity is right around the corner and that affects the hair, too.   Hope you'll let me know how you manage your "do".

Until next time...

  1. I don't find my hair as manageable as it used to be even though it is of the thick, coarse variety. It's why I'm often sporting a perm even though my hair has a lot of body naturally. I try not to use hairspray for the reasons mentioned here. I do have mousse and I like using a product called "chi." Not much help I'm afraid. Ahhh for the days when it used to be easier. Your hair looks great and it doesn't look at all limp. It looks as if it has a lot of body.

  3. As I've aged and as my hair has gotten grayer and sparcer it is harder to manage. If I just leave it and don't blow dry it with a round brush and if I don't use the curling iron here and there....there is no style. I use a texturizing pomade that brightens and helps with the style after I've blown and curled. I also use Biolage finishing spritz the firm hold. It will still blow in the wind but will go right back if I use my fingers to put it in place or one of my round brushes. I keep it fairly short...particularly at the neck line. It's tough to continue working on it all the time though.
    Have a great weekend.

  4. My hair is coarse and super straight so I do perm it for control. I only use hair spray on windy days and then I get the 50 mile per hour look. Sigh.

  5. I've gone to a style that is just long enough to pull back into a low pony tail, even though I don't have a "pretty neckline" as my hair stylist once told me.

I wear very little hair spray but rather control the fly aways with products such as Aveda's Confixor and Smooth Infusion. The hair spray I like is Aveda's Brilliant. It is in a pump bottle and adds shine. The Aveda products are a bit pricey, but they seem to last a very long time.

So now ya know more than you ever wanted to know!!!!!

  6. Now that I wear my hair THIS short, I don't worry about any of the hair styling products anymore... I don't even use fancy shampoos and conditioners anymore... Whatever is on sale or one I have a coupon for is what I use..... When you get my age, you don't have to worry about your hair anymore... ha

  7. I do, but I wish I didn't.
My hair is baby fine and I wasn't blessed with a great quantity of it. I pull out every trick in the book just to get some volume ... mousse, blow dryer, curling iron and plenty of hairspray. I'm constantly trying new products. I hate that feeling of being glued together, but the finer hairsprays don't seem to hold as well.

  8. Not fond of hairspray for all the reasons you state and more. Perhaps a styling aid I use one called mud.

  9. But I love the way your hair looks in the photo on the right!!!
Maybe I'm just into the more tousled look. As my hubby says sometimes when we see a woman who's hair is a little on the "wild side": "Guess that's the desired effect?"

  10. I don't like to spend time fiddling with my hair. Sometimes I use a little spray. Presently I am using DOVE that you pictured. My beautician has a really good one, but I will finish this can before I invest in more.

I use very little hairspray bu when I do it's sprayed at my crown I like a little pick up there so i am no s flat headed - yes my curl is not on top - it's straight there - crazy -- we all seem to have a bit of issuse with our hair ..but I like this (Dove Aerosol Hair Spray Precision Volume 7) maybe their line might be an answer.. let us know what you find that works..

  12. My hair is a curly mess and I straighten it so I need lots of product. I've never found the perfect hairspray for my hair. I need a firm grip with a gentle hold. Try and find that one for me. :)

  13. Yes, I do hairspray. With the humid season approaching, it's a must for me! If I tease it, or "back comb" it, I spray each section with a little FreezeIt (fairly cheap at Target) first. Once things are the way I like them, I do a healthy once-over with Kenra 25 (spendier, only at salons). Seems to do the trick!
