A busy time of year

Hello everyone...I didn't intend to stay away so long, but the days flew by and before I knew it I was 2 weeks away from blogland instead of one.  The days were mostly very busy ones.  Outside work and shopping for flowers, mulch and various gardening items were done when we had nice days.  I just drooled over the beautiful  flowers available and wanted to buy everything, but kept to the flowers that I know will do well in my yard and that are easy to grow.  For me that means Stella D'Oros, Knockout Roses, Salvia, Petunias and Geraniums to name a few.

Then there was an unexpected doctor visit and a follow-up visit.  And a regularly scheduled visit to my primary doc for blood work.  The unexpected visit came after seeing arcing lights in my left eye and, fearing a detached retina, made a trip to the Eye Institute in CoMo at the University Hosp.  They determined that it wasn't a tear but a usually age-related thing that happens when the vitreous gel shrinks and pulls away from the eye wall causing flashes of light and floaters.  It is getting better now but I still have floaters which can be annoying.  Had photos taken and, contrary to what I'd been told, that wasn't bad at all.  I'll go back in 6 months for a check-up.

I wish I could report that the inside work is coming along, but we haven't started on the bathroom yet.  Hubby has agreed...after much persuading...to hire the work done, but it's hard to find someone who will do the job when you want them.

I'm still waiting on my new sofa, but I can show you the style I've ordered and fabric choice.  The sofa is a Flexsteel which has been a good brand for us and served us well.  I had a hard time deciding on fabrics because of my wall color, Durham Beige.  It has a hint of a pink undertone and it seems most beige or light tan fabrics lean more toward gold undertones.   That's the reason behind ordering this sofa because I simply couldn't find a color that suited me...yes, I'm picky with colors.  I was told by a helpful store employee that I should have picked out a sofa and then painted.  Ya think?  Anyway, the deed was done and I wasn't about to repaint again.   Below are photos of the sofa style and color choice.  It really is close to the wall color, but I intend to add color in my throw pillows and other accessories.
The wall color on the left is by Dutch Boy called Durham Beige.  I love it but it really doesn't photograph well.  It seems to always look grayish in my photos.  I chose the same fabric for the pillows.  I'll use other colors for extra pillows.  Now I must practice the art of patience while I await my new sofa.  It will be awhile yet before it arrives.  When it does come in and I've lived with it a while, I'll be looking for a new window treatment for the 9' long window.  It will be a little harder to decide on than the sofa, I'm afraid.  So, I'll worry about that later!

I have a lot of catching up to do on reading blogs.  I've peeked in on a few from time to time, but didn't comment due to not being able to comment on all of them.   I look forward to seeing what everyone has been up to.

Until next time...

  2. Nice to have you back. I'm very interested in your sofa story as we hope to be making an upgrade in the next year. We got laughing so hard about trying to get up out of our "bucket" the other day that I thought we'd fall on the floor. Times are tough at the Haven. Ha!

Glad that your worries were not too serious. I have floaters, too, sometimes. Annoying!

Here's hoping you find just the right contractor for the job. I don't think that there are too many who are busy, at least in our area. That may be the trouble...a lot of them have moved on to other pursuits.

  4. Hi Cheryl, I realized that I do not have your email address. I answer alot of questions via email --and when I was sending a Mother's Day greeting to all of my peeps, I realized that I don't have your email address. Please send it to betsyadams@mac.com. Thanks!!!

To answer your question about containers, George gets the 16 inch ones (he thinks that is about the size of them) at Walmart...

Glad you are back. I've missed you.. Sorry about your eye problems. Hope they continue to improve.

Your sofa is pretty... I love it... It matches your wall so much.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. Glad to see you back, Cheryl. It is a busy time of year with inside and outside jobs requiring our attention.
Those unexpected doctor's visits aren't fun. I'm glad you are improving now. I know about floaters and (sad to say) cataracts. Found out I had those in my late 40s. I thought those were only for old people. LOL. After being in denial for a few years, I just broke down and got progressive lenses. Oh the joys of aging.
Your new couch looks really nice and comfy.

I have the same eye thing, annoying but thankfully, it doesn't seem to affect my vision.
Show us your garden when it begins to bloom...as you know, I love flowers!

  7. Oh no, I too had those lightening bolts in my eye. It happened at night while I was driving. It can scare the wee wee out of you.
Don't you love it when what you have is referred to as "age related".

  8. By the way I love the couch. The color is close to what mine is. It is a good color for bringing other colors into the room.
Also, thanks for the flower suggestions; I need to get busy on planting and I think I will try some of these. If it would stop raining I could actually get out and do something. Right now I am up in Spokane Washington helping my daughter who had surgery last week. Maybe when I get home the sun will be shining; at least I hope so. It has been raining here all day.
    Enjoy the moments!

  10. Hi Cheryl,
I love the couch! It really is a busy time of year isn't it? I have a hard time getting it all done...well it's NEVER ALL done...but I try. I'm sorry to hear about your eye issues. That kind of stuff is never fun. I chuckled at your comment re: my Old Woman poem. Age is definitely a state of mind. My inspiration really was my 95 year old neighbor who gardens every day and is quite spunky.

  11. Cheryl, it's scary when we have a vision problem. Recently I saw a sort of halo when looking through the windshield in sunlight...made me think of cataracts. It went away so I haven't had them checked but need to this year.

I love the sofa. That is exactly the style and brand I am getting soon (I hope). We have a store fairly close that carries Flexsteel so will be going to them to shop.
