Of work and winning and stormy weather

This past weekend was a busy one at the farm.  We all gathered for another weekend of painting, window washing and other fun (?) stuff.  One of the cousins who does carpentry stopped by to look at the siding and gave an estimate on a small repair...he told us that we were wasting our time painting before the sale!  Hmmm.

Since we haven't gotten to go to Branson this month, I'll have to be content to grab a few minutes to enjoy the views at the farm whenever I take a break from working.  It is really quiet and peaceful.  Once in a while when we're working, my brother-in-law likes to kid around with "you know this is a lot more fun than being in Branson".  I don't think so!

Thanks to all of you who commented on my last post about the mysterious happenings at my house.  I'm glad to know that we're not the only ones experiencing such.   Here's another photo of the abandoned house that I used in my last post.  Doesn't it look like it was a great house at one time!  Too bad that it wasn't kept up and still livable.  Frankly, I think this is what my house will look like soon, if we don't get time to give it some attention!  :)

My son was home over the weekend.  He spent most of his time Saturday in Columbia at Faurot Field where the game between the Missouri Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners was played.  The Tigers won 36-27!  Yay, Tigers!  It was the University of Missouri's homecoming, too.  My son said it was one of the best games he'd ever seen.   There was over 71,000 in attendance at the game so he was very late getting home.   We got home early enough Saturday night to see part of the game on television.

We've been under a severe thunderstorm warning this night.  Also, we're under a tornado watch until 6 am.  It was very warm out today and windy.  The kind of warm weather that you just know will probably brew up a storm.  I don't sleep easily when the weather might turn nasty.   I'm hoping the trees won't lose all their leaves yet...I want to take a drive soon to see if I can capture some fall color before it's gone.

Until next time...

  1. Cheryl it is 3:30am and I am up and wide awake. That was quite a line of storms. Not as scary as it could of been but no fun. I heard all kinds of things hitting the roof. We will see in the morning. The farm looks beautiful, peaceful. The old house looks familiar to me.....
going to try to go back to sleep, but the gusts keep coming back up.

  2. Cheryl, I happen to love storms. I slept with my bedroom door that leads outside open and listened to the wind blow. I don't believe we got a drop of rain though!

Your son was brave to go anywhere near Columbia this weekend. It does sound like it was a good game, though. Jim and his brother watched it on tv.

The drive we took was along Highway 94 to Augusta. The trees were just beautiful in places. Unfortunately, last night's weather might have taken care of them - but you never know. They certainly were nowhere as brilliant as in previous years.

Heading for another trip to the ear Dr. this morning. So have to go!

  4. I love that old house! I think it is neat! I'd like to drag my metal detector through it.
That storm was wicked! I like listening to rain but OMG! Those drops were beating on my windows and the wind was wild! First line woke me up at 11:20. It stopped as fast as it started! I went out and found Fat Cat hiding under my Trailblazer. Even Dudley came out to help look for her. I flipped on the TV because it was SO quiet, my thought was TORNADO! The second I pretty much slept thru. My hubby got up and checked it out though.

  5. Trust you came safely through the storm last night. We have some blustery weather out west too, but nothing so severe.

That old house is incredible! I'd love to do some exploring, imagining who might have lived there, what their lives were like. The bones of the house are truly remarkable.

My grandparents were farmers and lived in a house very similar and I have fond memories of visiting there.

    Have a blessed day!

  6. I'll bet that house could tell a lot of stories if only it could talk. It looks like it would have been really pretty in it's day.
I hope the storms in your area weren't too bad.

  7. It is amazing today; all the blogs I am following have brought back feelings of nostalgia. Even my blog was memories. I looked at the picture of the old home and just thought about other homes just like that and I always wonder about what went on in that home; what were the people like and etc. I love old homes. We once owned a farm home that had been renovated and it was one of my favorite homes; it had such personality.
I have been enjoying the fall leaves; but it has turned called so winter is coming and that brings it's own set of feelings.
Blessings and prayers for the storms to be mild in your area.

  8. Hi Cheryl!

I love the pictures of the farm, it's so beautiful, very serene and thought provoking. The old house is beautiful, like LeAnn, I would love to know the every day happenings that went on in that house, the happy times and I'm sure the very sad times. . . if only walls could talk.

You will be in my prayers - I pray that you will be safe and sound dear friend.

    Hugs,
    Barb

  9. Hi There, After being gone for about a week, it's taken me a long time to try to catch up on blog comments... Big Job!!!! ha

Love that abandoned house.. OH---someone ought to buy that house and fix it up... I'll bet it was a really neat house at one time.

I know you will be pleased when you finish fixing up the farm... Too bad though that it cannot stay in the family... The property is amazing. I'd choose being there over being in Branson ANYTIME. I don't like crowds...

Hope you didn't get any severe weather. We had high winds and rain --but nothing severe here thank goodness.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Just stopped in from Pioneer Woman's blog. Love this old house. I was a farmer's daughter, in Oregon, where I live. Loving it. Have been to Missouri 2x and beautiful country. Went to Carthage to see the Precious Moments chapel both times. Great photos.

  12. Spy camera are usually turning into increasingly widely used pertaining to small business safety, but alot more essentially regarding property safety. Associated with all the items in which deal with household safety, wireless camera will be generally disregarded. Many hidden digital cameras and also Spy Gadget decent intended for dwelling safety expense significantly less when compared with $300.Double zero.
