Of October leaves....

"O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away."
~Robert Frost, October

Since I haven't really been anywhere to take photos this fall season yet, I will share two from last year.  The top pic is a larger version of the one above in my four seasons header.  The other is from the same park.

Our leaves are changing rapidly now and I hope to get to take at least one day to drive somewhere to enjoy the colors in the next week when they will probably be at their peak.  I don't know that the fall colors will be at their best this year here in my neck of the woods since the daytime temperature has mostly stayed very warm for this time of year.

Edited to add:  These photos were taken at Rothwell Park in Moberly, Mo.

Until next time...

  1. Stunning Fall pictures Cheryl! I don't know about the colors this year. I am seeing some pretty color here and there but not much. Went to book club in Russellville yesterday and along the way were lots of naked Oaks and very little color. Lots of sumac. All our leaves are brown and dropping so fast I don't think there will be any left to have color. Strange fall but great weather to extend some lovely outside time before winter chases us all inside :) We are headed to the Lake today for CH's eye appt. We will see what is happening there. The park you photographed is beautiful, can you share where it is?

  2. Great photo, beautiful poetry. I'm begging the leaves not to fall as they're so pretty. They're not listening...

  3. Hi Cheryl!

    I was so happy when I read your comment today on my blog - I love hearing from you!

    Beautiful fall pictures! I love Autumn...and Robert Frost!

    I would love to have that big mushroom in my backyard...I love mushrooms! Even when they went out of style...back in the 70's sometime...I still loved them! And now, they are popular again?!

    I'm so happy for you to be a stay at home kind of gal! What a wonderful time you will have, but it does take some getting used to. It was hard for me at first, and I sometimes feel guilty when I do fun things and hubby works...:0( But, you will find so many things to fill your time, in fact, you won't have enough time! But, it will be a blessing for your family.

    The hot air balloons were gorgeous - have you ever been in one? I would love to take that ride, even though I don't like heights, it would just be fun to say I did it!

    Hugs,
    Barb
