Rainy days...

I love day-tripping with my hubby, even if it is raining.  We headed down I-70 Saturday to Blue Springs, which is near KC, to get new tires put on our car.

Our son told us where we could get tires at a savings of $240, if we got them before the end of the sale, so we didn't mind driving several miles to save that much money.

Brett met us at the tire shop and while we were waiting for the tires to be put on, he drove us to Plowboys BBQ for lunch.  I chose a 2 meat sandwich of pulled chicken and sausage with cheesy potatoes as my side.  It was very good!

After lunch, I told the guys that I'd like to take a little stroll around the Brass Armadillo, so off we went just a couple of miles away to check it out.

Do you ever wonder how names are chosen for businesses?  I do.  And I have learned that this antique mall is one of a chain of 6 malls across the country.

This wasn't my first visit to this antique mall, but when you step inside it is quite large and jam packed with booths filled with everything imaginable.  We got through about half of the mall before the tire shop called to tell us that the car was ready to go.

I enjoyed the day in spite of the rain, which wasn't all that heavy.  It's just the spray from the traffic on the interstate that makes the driving a little more nerve-wracking, but we made it back home safe and sound.

We found Miss Stormy sleeping on the basement steps with her favorite mouse.  After the drive home, we were ready for a nap, too.

Fast forward to today, we had more rain last night and some expected later today.  The pond is full now after being so very low and that is good.  I've noticed the grass is getting more green each day.  Spring is on the way!

Happy Wednesday to you!
Cheryl

    1. I agree that it was worth it...to see our son, have lunch, shop and get tires all worth it. It's always worth a trip to see our boy...okay, he's a grown man, but he'll always be our boy. :) Hope you get some rain soon!

  2. I love your first picture. I have actually never been to Missouri other than the airport at KC and then into Kansas. I went there about 7 years ago for the first time ever. The road to the small town in Kansas that I went to looks just like the one you were on. I really love seeing other places and I would really love to go back to that area in the summer when all is green. I think I went in February then. Maybe once my husband retires. Good deals on tires, BBQ, and a stroll through an antique mall sounds delightful to me.

    1. I hope you get to visit here again, it's a beautiful state. Of course, I'm prejudiced. :) MO isn't as flat as KS, it's just flat in some areas, we have lots of rolling hills and way down south are the Ozark Mtns.

  4. It seems funny to see pictures from my stomping grounds on your blog! My husband and I go to Brass Armadillo about once a month as they tend to have items come and go. I'm glad you had a nice trip, got a deal on tires and also got to see your son! Sounds like a good day despite the rain!

    1. It was a very good day! Wish I lived closer to the Brass Armadillo...I love that place! So much to see there. When we go to KC, we don't always have time to stop in.

  5. I would go NUTS in that mall! Everything looks so good. I want the table, the topiary, all the tiered shelves. Maybe they got this name because a brass armadillo is one of the first things they sold?

  6. Cheryl, Thanks for taking us along. Sounds like you enjoyed the day out. That mall place sure did look interesting. Good you could have lunch with your son. Oh that cat...it played so hard it had to nap. Don't you wish you could nap like a cat. I sure wish I could. LOL Blessings to you, and thank goodness spring is near. xoxo, Susie

    1. I agree, Gert, that if the rain isn't freezing then I can handle it. Well, as long as it isn't storming, that is!

    1. I love listening to a little bit of rain/thunder when I'm trying to sleep. I don't mind driving in the rain if it's not coming down too hard and I'd prefer not to be on the freeways. :)

    2. Hi Cheryl~

I love rainy days, from my cozy living-room...;0) But, I'd drive in the rain to save money...and go to an antique mall. Your lunch looked yummy too, what a fun way to spend the day. I think anytime you can spend time with your hubby and son is a great day!! Stormy had the right idea to take a nap...adorable.

  9. A $240 savings, time with Brett, good food AND an excursion through an antique mall. I'd call that a good day! Very good! The rain continues here as well. Last night the storms had winds so high I could hardly sleep. I'm getting ready for all this to pass! Ha! I'm with Stormy... a nap may be in order today. ;) blessings ~ tanna

  10. Sounds like a wonderful day and bargain tires too! I am amazed at the price of tires. We recently bought two for the farm truck and I thought the bill was for a complete set!

I can never pass up barbecue; Max isn't a fan but I make up for it. I have baby back ribs I think I will thaw today!

  11. You always have such fun day trips for various reasons. I like it when you can get a bargin. The food you had looked yummy. I especially loved the antique place. I do love antiques and I want to go looking when spring is really here.
We have had warmer weather and now we have been hit with snow. It is suppose to rain for the next three days. We are grateful because we need the mositure. I love the sweet photo of your Stormy and the mouse. Our animals are just so adorable and do some unique things.
    Sending hugs your way!

  12. We have been having lots of rain here too. I do love me some rainy and cloudy days...with a few sunshiny days thrown in here and there! Seriously, dreary, cloudy days are so much easier on these peepers of mine. Your rainy day sounds like a lot of fun and the food looked SO good! My hubby and I love browsing antique shops too and sometimes we aren't even able to make it all the way through. Have a blessed weekend!

  15. Hello,
You find the best places to have lunch and dinner. :-)
We are bracing for another snow storm.. 6 to 11 inches they say.

  16. Despite the weather, this looked like such a fun outing -- seeing your son, eating out and then shopping -- and not having to do the driving, all sound like the ingredients of a great day trip, Cheryl.

  19. Hi Cheryl. Leave it to Missouri - the snow today was quite a surprise! I’ve never been to the Brass Armadillo but hope to go there in a couple of months. Our son has a list of antique shops we need to check out in the KC MO and KC KS way. Your day out sounded like an awful lot of fun!
