A Snowy Drive, Faux Plants and Jeans

We're already a week into February.  I have barely started on all the purging that I planned to do this winter and spring will be here before I know it, so I need to get busy!  But, cabin fever has set in.

When the weather is not bad and I'm feeling good, I like to get out of the house and go somewhere.  Sunday, we decided to head down the interstate and meet our son for dinner.

The weather was only calling for a few flurries so we thought we would be okay.  A few miles down the interstate, the snow picked up and we saw the first car off the highway.  The roads were getting worse and we saw 2 more vehicles off the road with one upside down.  If folks would just slow down, this might not happen.  We were only going 50 mph or at times even slower depending on the amount of snow.  The visibility was the worst part, especially when the big trucks whizzed by us.

Our son called and said he had seen 5 vehicles off the highway and we should turn around at the next exit and go back home.  We decided that since we were close to our meeting place that we would just keep going as the weather was supposed to clear off that afternoon.  Brett had already gone through the city where the highways were the most snow covered.

We soon ran out of the worst of the snow and the highway was much better before we got to our destination.  After we visited with our son over our food and got on the road to head back, the sun was shining and the highway was mostly clear all the way back home.  It turned out to be an enjoyable day after all.

After tasting the delicious ribs that BG had ordered when we were in KC, I had to have a plate of my own.  Wow, I had no idea I would get this many!  And they were yummy.  I choose broccoli and a salad for my 2 sides.  The men picked combo platters for their meal.  We all had food left over to take home.

I went to the Big Town the other day and stopped in at Marshall's.  Faux plants were seen everywhere in the housewares dept.  I have gotten a couple of them in the past.  One is very like the 3rd one from the left on the top row and I have it on a lamp table.  I love a bit of greenery in my house.

Faux plants are nice to have when you have kitties in the house as they won't get sick chewing on them!  I have to keep most of my real plants up high so they can't get to them.  What do you think of faux plants?

After stopping in at Marshall's, I headed to Kohl's to look for some new jeans.  I wear them a lot unless the weather is warm and then I usually wear capris.  At home, I wear comfy clothes such as sweat pants/shirts or t-shirts.

I have seen the jeans with holes in them many times, but it's still a shock when you see them hanging on the racks and look at the prices.  Gads.  I can remember when no one would be seen wearing these!

I saw some jeans that looked "normal" but upon closer inspection, they had tiny threadbare spots in them.  Nope, not for me!  I finally found a couple of pair that were nice.  What do you think of this current trend of holes in jeans?  Yay or Nay?

This sunset was snapped outside my front door yesterday.  It was a chilly day but the weatherman was wrong again and we didn't get the snow that was predicted.

Not sure what I'll get into today.  That procrastinating little elf sitting on my shoulder is whispering in my ear and telling me that I should get out of the house since the temps are supposed to reach into the 40's.  We shall see.

Happy Thursday to you!
Cheryl

  1. Getting to see your son and enjoy those ribs... well, it would ALMOST make it worth while to drive in the snow. Ha! Okay, it DID make it worth the while. I don't know why folks insist on driving like bats out of h*&% when road conditions are poor. Glad you had a safe journey! And, oh, my, those ribs! Hope you get into something fun today! blessings ~ tanna

    1. One of my biggest pet peeves are stupid drivers. People driving too fast or passing on hills. The latter I see all too often on my highway from home to the Big Town.

  2. I am glad you continued on your way and could see your son. We just cancelled our trip to IN this weekend (leaving tomorrow) because of the weather warnings already out- 6"-12" of blowing snow from north of Milwaukee all the way into IN. We will try next weekend instead. Darn it!

    Those ribs look fantastic! YUM!!!!

Not a fan of the holes in jeans on 'adults'...lol They are okay on the teens and younger generation but when you get to my age I would rather be conservative and classic rather than trendy. I have seen gals in their 60s wearing these and (in my own humble opinion) I think they look kind of silly---but to each their own and I am not judging.

Have a great upcoming weekend- xo Diana

    1. I'm sorry you've had to cancel your plans but that sounds like to much snow to be heading into! I prefer classic styles, too, Diana, and I just don't think the holey jean look that swell and definitely not on older women.

    2. should be "too" much snow. The brain knows the difference but my fingers get ahead of themselves too often. :)

  3. I guess the only good thing about holey jeans is that it makes the really poor look fashionable.
My heart won't let me eat ribs but that picture had me drooling on my keyboard. Wow, they looked good.

    1. Patti, the ribs were so good! Sorry you can't eat them. I often think about all the jeans I've thrown away that had holes in them. Ha! They'd be right in style now!

  4. Those torn jeans are not what I would like to wear. I had a teenager come on the bus the other day, her jeans had so many holes in them, she may as well have worn shorts and it was bitterly cold

    1. I never thought of that, Ruth. They would be cold in winter!

    1. Thanks, Sandra. Yes we were glad we motored on. The sun came out and the snow pretty much dissipated. It had only snowed enough to stick to the highway and made visibility poor with the traffic blowing it around.

  6. Hi Cheryl~

Snow! Well, here in my neck of the woods we hardly know what that looks like this winter...kind of scary for us. I agree, people just need to slow down! It seems like there is always a fatality when we get a storm and the roads get slick, all attributed to speed.

Dinner looks good - ribs remind me of summer, summer reminds me of sun, sun reminds me of warmth, warmth reminds me of . . . need I go on . . . :0) I'm glad you had a chance to get out and do something fun!

I will never understand jeans with holes in them, and they are so much more expensive than regular jeans. What bother's me even more, is women my age wearing them...I just don't understand that fad. I guess I am just "old school", and that' okay with me.

Yesterday when I was in town with my sister, she bought my mother a cute little faux plant, it was so cute. Mom said that she just needed some "green" in her room! It must be spring fever!

Your sunsets are so beautiful, I am always in ahh at the colors in a sunset!!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. I'm old school myself, Barb. I just like a classic style and there's sure nothing classic about jeans that look old!

  7. What an adventure you had! I would for sure have hyperventilated! But you made the right decision to keep going on. I LOVE the fake plants, IF they look real! So many don't, like the ones in Wal Mart. WOW, they have these plants in Michael's! Only even more, plus the flowering cactus. I must admit I got FIVE of them!!!! They all look so real! I have spread them out through the house. We have a cat too, and so many plants are poisonous to them. I don't like the holy jeans! But it may make me feel younger to wear them. I wear the regular jeans, but with a bit of spandex in them. They look just like regular jeans, and I can push them way up to get my knee shots. I wear jeans all the time! I also have them in khaki and black. We should post our plants.

  8. Oh my...my hubby would have turned around in a heartbeat! Now, I am a little more adventuresome than he is and I would have done like you and kept on going to your destination...and look what you would have missed! Those RIBS!!! And it's a big NO THANK YOU on the holy jeans! Oh, before I forget, that is a stunning sunset!

    1. Thanks, Debby. We have had some gorgeous sunsets this winter, but I've not captured many. By the time I go grab my camera, the sky has changed.

  9. Hi Cheryl, What an adventure you had! When I looked out it was only flurries, but when I went with the kids it was really coming down. It was melting when we were getting ready to come home. I don't like the holey jeans the price is ridiculous.I thought about your husband when it was really cold and lost power for over 1 1/2 hours. The ribs look yummy but I have to watch the spices as some of them don't like me. I am progressing still use my quad cane. I think it is more of a security blanket at times. I really enjoyed catching up with you. Hugs and Prayers from your NW Missouri Friend Shirley.

  10. Happy Thursday Cheryl! Nay on those thread bare jeans, but the youngsters do not seem to agree with me. It is hard to find a nice pair of jeans without any tears. I hope the weather gurus are wrong again for this weekend’s predictions! Bring on Spring!

  11. Oh Cheryl, I was so afraid when I was reading about your trip. I really hate bad weather like that. I guess I drove in it way too much when I worked. I was "always" glad when I pulled in my driveway at night...lol Those ribs looked delicious!! So glad you enjoyed them. So nice to have some leftovers! Faux plants are very pretty! I have live ones, but don't have a cat anymore. But...I totally understand!! The pants with the holes and worn look are terrible! My goodness how things change over time..(And not always for the better!)

    Stay well.

    Blessings,
    Gert

    1. I've had to drive in some bad weather over the years when I worked in the Big Town. And like you, glad to get home safe and sound. There's no place like home...especially after a nerve-wracking drive!

  12. I found a pair of $74 jeans at Kohl’s. They were marked down, marked down again, and then I had a coupon. I ended up paying $7.84 for them. Did I mention they had the knee intentionally ripped.

I took them home and patched them. My son still laughs saying his mom Is the only person who buys ripped jeans and mends them.

    1. This made me smile! With your sewing talent, I'll bet they look great even patched. Better than holey, right?!

  13. First of all, I am glad you made it safely in the snow.
I was just ranting the other day about jeans. Nay to jeans that I can wear out and tear up on my own. I am so over skinny jeans as well. Where does a 57 year old go to purchase just a straight leg (not form fitting) pair of jeans. I did actually find a pair of Lee Riders at Walmart. I look old fashioned I am sure, but I hate skinny jeans. I don't know how they can be considered comfortable. I think you hit my nerve again:) Ha!!
The sunset photo is so pretty. I think the worst of the cold weather is over for us. Yea! That puts me in a better mood.

    1. I found a straight leg jean, Lee brand, at Kohl's. I don't like the skinny jeans, either. Call me old-fashioned, too, but I just don't think they are that flattering to most women. I mean, how many have perfect figures? Don't like the skinny look on men, either! I know many disagree with me, and that's okay. We all have different tastes!

  14. I do not like to drive in bad weather . . . too many crazy drivers out there. I'd have been a nervous wreck. Thank the Lord you had safe travels. (And ribs too!)

I love faux plants! I am awful with plants, inside or outside, so faux is the way to go for me! I will absolutely not pay good money for holey jeans. It is so hard to find the right jeans!

  15. I am so glad you made it safe to meet your son, Cheryl, driving in snow or ice really scares me, I know you were relieved when the sun came out for your ride home, my those ribs looked so delicious.I do not like the jeans with all those holes in them, and like you, never wore them when I was younger. I too like to wear sweats around the house. The view is beautiful.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Blessings,

  16. i avoid the snow and ice when I can. glad you safely made it to visit with your son. dinner looked good. i agree with you holey jeans are not age appropriate for some of us.

  17. Wow, I am happy you made it safely to see your son. We have traveled in this kind of snow before and it is a bit scary. You meal looks so delicious. I'm wondering if we should have something similar for Valentines dinner.
I liked the plants and may look into getting a couple of them for some spots in my home.
The holes in the pants aren't for me. I always smile when I see my granddaughters and sometimes children wear them. I think I could just make my own a lot cheaper.
our sunset photos is lovely; I may borrow it for a graphic. You do take great photos.
Loved this one and sending warm thoughts and hugs your way!

  18. Yikes, I hear you about winter driving. I am thankful you all are safe. We are to have snow this weekend and we have plans out of town. White Knuckle driving we call it.
I like the plants. It amazes me how real they look.
