Randoms on a Friday

If you think I like eggs, you'd be eggsactly right!  I love them fried, boiled, scrambled...and I often have one or two for breakfast.

Yesterday morning just happened to be a 2 egg day and it was fun to see that both eggs were double-yolked.  I love little surprises like that.

I have an appointment Monday with my ophthalmologist.  It's probably nothing other than age-related issues, but I have been having a couple of strange things going on with my eyes.

Hopefully, he won't tell me I'm spending too much time in front of the computer.  :)  I have been cutting way back on my online time this week to see if it would help.  Can't say that I can tell any difference.

Our weather has been absolutely gorgeous with temps in the 70's.  One would think spring has arrived.  I'm seeing flowers coming up and the jonquils are blooming.  It's going to be much cooler this weekend, so those pretty blooms won't last long.

Last weekend was nice and warm, so BG worked on cleaning the patio and I picked up some small limbs in the yard.  There is plenty more to do.

Our last weekend plans changed slightly since our son didn't get to come in after all, but BG and I met him for a meal and a nice visit Sunday afternoon at one of our favorite BBQ places along I-70.

I need to get busy and clean out the oven.  I'm fixing bruschetta for part of our meal tonight and I'll need the oven which is a mess from a little fire I had the other night.  Don't ask, it must have been a little senior moment when I left something in it and forgot to check before I turned the oven on.  :)

Happy Friday to you!

It's Friday!

These boots are made for walking.....

While we were waiting for our table at the Longhorn,
I amused myself by taking photos of the decor
by the entrance to
the restaurant.

Chaps, anyone?  I love
the western theme.

More than that, I love
the food there.

We had a gift certificate
from our son that he gave
us at Christmas.
He knows what we like,
thanks Brett!

The strawberry lemonade is
very good.  I've never tried
making it, have you?

Speaking of strawberries...
my chocolate-covered
strawberries are almost
gone from the batch made
for ♡ day.
I may have to make a few
more.  Aren't strawberries good for you?

I chose a delicious
ribeye steak with
mashed potatoes and
salad for my meal.  BG
got the same thing except he ordered french fries.
He loves his french fries!

Now I need to plan our meals for the weekend.

Our son is coming home for a visit and our daughter will be here to visit, too.
So I'm heading to the grocery store soon.  I did some house cleaning yesterday and still need to
finish dusting and a do a bit of laundry.

I haven't yet decided on what to fix for our meals this weekend.
I need some new ideas for it seems like I fix the same things
all the time.  What sounds good to you?

Happy Friday to you!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to you!

I love strawberries and I love chocolate, so what is better than combining the two?

When I was in the Big Town, I picked up a carton of those luscious red berries and some dipping chocolate...white is my favorite...and had a little fun fixing them for my favorite Valentine.

Hubby and I will be going out to dinner as usual for Valentine's Day.  That is what we both enjoy.

I stopped by my daughter's house last night after she and a friend made up a batch of goodies to take to her kids and teachers today.  The kids will love these.  Everything looked good and was good because I sampled a few things to make sure!

Enjoy your day...hope it is a sweet one!

Three Things I Love

The clouds were interesting yesterday as I headed down the highway to the Big Town.  By the time I found a good spot to pull over to get a picture, the clouds had gathered closer together, but they were still intriguing.  The clouds in the lower part looked like lines drawn in the sky.

I took a huge bag of books back to the upscale/resale shop.  BG asked me why I don't try to sell them, but I explained that I only paid 50 cents to a dollar for most of them and the money collected at this shop goes to charity.  I came home with three more books to add to my growing TBR pile.

Among the things needed in my house to help make it cozy are these three...books, plants and kitties.  What do you need to cozy up your home?

I had planned to look for a couple of new houseplants, but I decided it was too cold yesterday and cold air and plants don't mix.  Some of my plants have had to be tossed.  It might help if I could remember to water them.  Or if the cats would leave them alone.

Some plants like pothos, of which I have a few, are said to be poisonous to cats but even though I see the signs of the plant being chewed on none of my cats have had any ill effects so far.  I've tried a pot of grass that I buy at the pet shop for cats, but they won't touch it.

Just a few minutes ago, I heard a strange sound that sounded human-like and I looked toward the dining area where the sound came from and saw one of the cats with her tail fluffed out and looking intently toward the floor under the table.  I didn't get up to investigate, I'm guessing one of the other kitties was playing and made the sound.  They usually sleep all afternoon.

source unknown

It's getting late in the day, but I wanted to mention the birthday of one of my favorite authors and an original pioneer woman.

On this day, 150 years ago, Laura Ingalls Wilder was born.  She grew up to become a writer, teacher, journalist and farmer.  You probably know her best as the author of the Little House on the Prairie series.

I have always admired Laura and her family.  Laura and her husband moved to Mansfield, MO in 1894 where they remained for the rest of their lives.  I've visited her home in Mansfield where it remains much the same after her death in 1957.  Below are a couple of photos I took of the house.  If you are interested, I did a post about our trip to Mansfield to see Laura's home three years ago and have more photos here.

honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have;
to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage
when things go wrong."

I don't remember where I found the above photo.  They didn't allow us to take photos in the house.  This corner of her office looks exactly as I remember it.  Laura's desk was very small and she wrote her books there using a tablet.  A far cry from today's laptops, eh?

Happy Birthday, Laura.  I will sign off with one of my favorite quotes of Laura's.  Another is in my sidebar.  The quotes under the photos are also Laura's.

Happy Friday!

Yesterday was cool but sunny and I wanted to get out of the house, so I drove to the Big Town for some shopping and browsing.

While at Wally World, I spied the softest, most huggable looking teddy bears all lined up on the shelves.  They were quite large, too.   The way the pair above were sitting made me smile and I had to snap a picture with my iphone.  When I got home, I played around with my photo in PicMonkey and this is what I came up with.....

Wishing you smiles and love on this Friday!
