Before I get to my news, I want to say that I think that this has been the fastest summer ever. Do you agree? Time gets away, days pass, and before I know it...a week is gone. Soon it will be time to turn the calendar again. School has started for many. It has in my community. Slow down time! As much as I love fall, I'm just not ready to let summer go quite yet. I have flowers to enjoy. Maybe not quite as many as in the beginning of the season. Some have given up fighting for their lives in the heat of summer. I also have more patio sitting to do and stars to watch on a summer's night and I want to wear my sandals and capris a while longer.
The days have passed by so fast that I really haven't noticed that we didn't get very far from home this summer. We did take a day off last week and traveled not too far to see something very exciting. To me, at least. I'll share that story in another post.
But now, for my big news....we finally have a bathroom that is mostly finished at The Project!
Here is the Before and After....
Everything was taken out and a subfloor put down with new flooring on top. The new stool, as you can see, was put in on the other side to make a wee bit more room as this is a very small bathroom. A new tub and shower surround was put in, also a new vanity, and some of the walls were replaced with new drywall and the rest skim coated and sanded down prior to painting. The window was replaced earlier. All that remains to be done, besides decorating and hanging a shower curtain, etc, is a little trim work and caulking. If we decide to put up some crown molding, that will be done later.
Through the window in the bathroom, you can see the door that goes into the spare room off the deck. The deck should be finished this week, weather permitting. It is raining as I write this.
The new roof is finished over the deck and spare room. A wall which was partially removed in the kitchen to get the tub into the bathroom has been replaced and is ready for painting.
We have a lots of things yet to do. Those little things that take time, but we are getting there! The wiring that needs to be done will be the biggest challenge for BG. He'll also redo the closet in the spare room now that the new roof is on and there should be no more leaks.
The rest of the rooms need painting and the hardwood floors are going to get sanded and we'll then make a decision as to whether we need to put in some carpet.
It's exciting to see some results of all that planning, work and time spent looking for things we bought for the house last year! I think I spend 3/4 of my life looking for stuff. Neither one of us can remember where we put things. lol! Does that happen to you?
And just to make life even more interesting...guess what we found? I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
In the end, I had to smile. They are just so darn cute.
Yes, the neighborhood momma has done it again. Brought us some kittens. Eight kittens. That's right. Eight little cutie pies. Two are calicos, two are diluted calicos, two are black with white paws and a little white on their noses. The other two are a gray and a gray and white.
Momma is really proud of herself. She was caught and we rounded up all the kittens, which were hidden back in some vines. We took them to The Project and put them in an empty bedroom with all the amenities a cat would need. The kittens will be tamed and when they are old enough to be weaned, we will take momma kitty to get fixed. No more surprises! I just hope we can find homes for all the kittens.
I hope you are enjoying these last days of summer. Many are taking blog breaks this month and I have certainly slowed down on blogging myself. Hope to get back to visiting more regularly soon!
Happy Tuesday to you!
xo Cheryl
Yes I feel the same, we've had a really hot few months and now here we are summer nearly over, but I cling to summer as long as I can. Once all the kiddies have gone back to school, and everywhere is quieter, it's time foe Mr France & I to think about our short trip away to the coast.. We too have a Cat who has kittens around our barn somewhere, but she's a ferrel cat, good to keep the mice away and any other nasties we don't want. Don't know who the Daddy is as she 3 kittens, 1 ginger -1 all white - and a black & white one, must be throw backs from the previous mums. They usually all disappear once the mum isn't feeding them any more. So good luck for finding homes for yours.
ReplyDeleteYou new bathroom looks lovely and I am sure you areglad the work is done. The kittens are so cute
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom looks much improved. My goodness, you certainly have a few projects still ahead of you! Oh, the kittens are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThe new bathroom is very nice! I love Fall too, but not ready to let summer go because Fall is so short and then there is winter. Have to say though that I won't be sad to see this summer go!
ReplyDeleteHello Cheryl, your bathroom makeover looks fabulous! I wish time would slow down, I am not ready for fall or winter. The kittens are adorable, you are so kind to take them in. I hope they all find good happy homes. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI agree, summer is moving along very fast. I do look forward to the cooler days of fall. The new bathroom looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a wonderful difference. I am trying to remember when that color of blue was popular for bathrooms. Nope can't. Love the new arrangement also.
ReplyDeleteI noticed the school buses this week also. Mercy that went fast.
So glad you are getting mama cat fixed or this could go on for years. They sure are cute though.
no wonder your summer went so fast, you have been a really busy bee... love the new look of the bathroom and moving the toilet to the other side was genius. i don't know why people think they need a big bathroom. ours are both this size and they are fine. one for me and one for bob. it really only has two uses, it is not meant to be 'living space'. hope all goes well with the rest of your 'project'
ReplyDeleteMy blogging has slowed down ALL summer long. Way too busy!! Yes....girl, this has been the fastest Summer ever. I am amazed at how quick the days have passed. Great job on the bathroom! Looks totally different from the original. It's a great thing to be able to do all the work and to not have to spend so much on hiring folks to help. Enjoy the day....enjoy all your blessings...
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your new bathroom!!!!!! I have that same blue tub and toilet, gotta love the 1960s! Blessings my friend!!!
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom looks great, Cheryl...what a great transformation! Like you, I cannot believe how fast the summer is going! We are also in the midst of home improvements...going a bit slow, as to be expected but little by little outside things ar getting done. Think our new floors will probably have to wait until next spring...I'm good with that as long as we can get the new front porch finished so we can use it this fall.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday :)
The bathroom re-do looks great! I agree with putting the toilet on the other side. Those kittens are adorable. Yes it seems summer has slowed blogging down I know it has for me, too much going on.
ReplyDeleteLovely bathroom --- love the look you used, simple and clean and not blue! Kittens. What a blessing.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! This summer has just flown by!! I can't remember a summer that has gone by so quickly.
ReplyDeleteNice job on the bathroom remodel! It must feel so good to see good progress, and know that soon you'll have everything checked off your list.
Cute kittens. Hope you find nice forever homes for each of them.
Have a sweet day.
~K.
Hi Cheryl, We are on the way to the Tetons/Yellowstone for a week.... We are now in Wyoming --and how gorgeous!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 'do-over'... Looks SO GOOD...
Yes--summer has flown by... Schools seem to start earlier and earlier.
Hugs,
Betsy
Oh Cheryl, where did summer go? Love the redo, looks wonderful. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a fast summer, can’t believe how fast it’s gone sometimes. Your bathroom looks great. We have a whole list of things to get done and we are about to start our projects but it will be done a little bit here and a little bit there. Also we have a list of seven items to be tended to by the plumber. One thing after the other started giving us problems, and the last was a slow drip in the basement. Thank goodness it wasn’t any heavier as we have had a flood down there but not for many years. And yes I forget where I put things, classic only today. I was looking all over the place for my reading glasses, only to realize when I passed a mirror, that they had slip down toward the back of my head. Ah well! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by. How good of you to take care of the momma cat and her kittens. My old boss used to do that where I worked. There were a lot of strays that she would take care of and any that could be caught safely she would pay to get them fixed.
ReplyDeletethe bathroom looks great! really nicely done! and glad mama got caught with her 'gifts'. :)
ReplyDeleteahhh, really nice bath...no wonder you are so proud.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I have never seen a summer fly by as fast as this one did. I see bloggers are pulling out their fall decos...not me...not for awhile longer yet. Not nearly ready to let go of summer.
Wow, lots of fun and excitement in your life lately! Your bathroom remodel is gorgeous. Both are bathrooms are small - about the size or yours, too. Your new tile is similar to the tile in our main bath.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that mama cat will be fixed and that homes will try to be found for the new kitties. They are so adorable!
Yes it has been a fast summer...I want a do over! Those kittens are so cute! Good for you taking charge of the situation to make sure there are no more cuties:)
ReplyDeleteForgot to say that your bathroom at the project looks great! Isn't it great to have a room all done! Perhaps a stained glass piece on the bottom part of that window...I have also seen etched glass but I like the idea of some color! Love the floor too:)
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, It has been a very fast summer and busy with me. I spent the summer with my ten year old grandson while brother worked. School is in session and I am trying to catch up with my friends. I have enjoyed reading your blog tonight. We had 1 1/2" inches yesterday in a downpour. We did manage to get a couple of horseshows in finally. Hopefully no more rain for awhile. Those kittens are cute. There was one that showed up at the kids house so they have been feeding it. It will be an outdoor cat. Your project is progressing . I am glad that you used 6x6 under your deck. Take care Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting a room finished...it really looks good. All I can say is oh, my--8 babies!!! That is a lot. I am ready for a good, long fall, but am so afraid it is going to be short and sweet.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...where is this summer going? I can not believe how fast time is flying by! I like fall but....I want summer to last longer. STOP...or at least SLOW DOWN! Lol Good job with the bathroom makeover! It is really pretty! You guys did a great job!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
Hi Cheryl~
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'm not done with summer yet either. It seems like the flowers get more beautiful as the days get cooler, and I'm definitely not ready to give up my sandals and capris! This time of year in Idaho can be very smokey, and this year is one of those. We have so many fires burning out west, that it makes it difficult to go outside - really bad air quality!
Your project is coming along beautifully!! What a difference all your work made in the bathroom, it looks so nice!
I wish I could find 8 cute kittens and a mommy cat!! I love cats, and I especially love gray cats - they are so adorable! They were lucky to find you!
Hugs,
Barb
This has been a quick summer although at times I wished for fall so much that I think I willed it to speed by a bit faster for me. I love your new bathroom, and the toilet definitely looks like it would work better where you moved it. Love the colors, also.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!
Happy news. . . one more TO DO crossed of the project list!
ReplyDeleteHappy baby kitten days . . . Looks like some calico in the mix!
Project looking good! Well done. Well, Cheryl, I didn't know whether to groan or chuckle. That Mama Cat sure knows the right folks!
ReplyDeleteThis summer has gone by so fast and i can't even remember all the things we have done.
ReplyDeleteI think your project looks awesome. It is fun to watch your progress on this one.
Oh my baby kittens again. The picture of them are so cute and I think they should be easy to give away when ready. Yes, I think Mama Cat needs a rest for sure.
Loved all the pictures! Blessings and hugs~
