It's been so much fun backyard bird watching this winter. I put this little collection of my photos from the past week in this collage. In no particular order, there are 4 different woodpeckers...a Red-Headed Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker and a Downy Woodpecker (male and female). Four different kinds of sparrows are in this group...a White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, White-crowned Sparrow and a sparrow I haven't been able to identify. He's on the bottom row, second from the right, and is probably a Song Sparrow, but the solid dark head is odd. I showed an American Tree Sparrow yesterday. Also included, Cardinals (male and female), House Finch, Blue Jay, Mourning Dove, Gold Finch, White-breasted Nuthatch and a Starling. I'm sure these birds will make an appearance again from time to time in my posts but one, or a few, at a time.
The photo on the left above was taken over the weekend. The next photo taken this morning shows the snow is melting. Yay! Now I need to think about what I'm going to show for tomorrow's Friday Favorite. Isn't this week going by fast? Have a happy day!

I was reading this post out loud to my hubby, telling him how lucky you are to have such a wide variety of birds come to your yard, and his reply was, "No wonder the cat on the right is so fat."....lol I hadn't even noticed the cat. That's the hunter in my hubby coming out. :) Thanks for sharing your wonderful variety of birds. I love them!

ReplyDeleteYou have so many beautiful birds. I was trying to decide which ones we don't have here...the junco and nuthatch...we don't see here. We have a lot of bluebirds though along with the others you have pictured. We've seen robins and cedar waxwings this week, too! We love our birds!

ReplyDeleteGreat birds there! We've been feeding them all winter, but the snow is not receding yet, like yours since we just got another 10" a couple of days ago. I just heard birds chirping outside for the first time this morning.

I have noticed more birds around here too. I'll have to remember to have camera in hand when I'm sitting on the patio these fine days. The quail have been visiting frequently. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI had no idea there were so many different types of sparrows. I guess I have just lumped them into one big category as I find them the less desirable birds.
Your post just inspired me to go out and fill up my feeder.

What a collection of birds and they are all so beautiful....I know they are so glad you are such a good caregiver to provide them food in all this nasty weather we have had.....Love the feeder dish on top of the flower pot...Great idea...

Love all of your beautiful birds! I do believe today might actually melt all of the snow, except maybe the big piles in parking lots and along the side of the road. Rain tomorrow, just in time for the weekend. That's ok, I'll take the warmer temperatures that are coming with it.

This is my first year having bird feeders (not sure why we never did this before) and have had a grand time snapping photos and identifying the birdies. Love the collage idea!
