Thank you to all my sweet blogging friends for the birthday comments last week! I had a very nice birthday and the weekend was great, too, in spite of the weather which was rather chilly and cloudy. More rain came in yesterday.
My hubby and I hopped into the car Saturday for a day trip. I had planned on a different drive, but because the light wasn't cooperating for any photo ops that I might encounter, we just drove to our nearest big city which is Columbia. We ended up taking a slightly different route than we usually take. As we were motoring along and talking, my eyes were always on the alert, of course. Suddenly, I saw a very, very large bird atop a tree and we screeched to a halt, after a quick check in the rear view mirror. Could it be? I quickly zoomed in and saw that it was indeed a Bald Eagle!! I was so excited that I could barely hold the camera still and it's not a very sharp photo since the zoom was extended as far as it would go and the light was poor. Good shot, bad shot, it didn't matter...seeing this Bald Eagle made a great start to my day and I was glad that we had changed our plans after all!
One of our first stops was for lunch at the 63 Diner, a favorite of ours. Elvis serenaded us, along with other artists from the 50's and 60's. I always have to have an old-fashioned cherry coke with my meal.
Next stop was at my favorite antique mall, Artichoke Annie's. I think we must have spent 2 hours there! We also stopped in for some browsing at The Veranda which is just down the Interstate from Annie's.
I love roosters and chickens and quilts. So when I spied this little cross-stitched number with all 3, I just couldn't resist taking it home. It looks better in person than it does in this photo!
I also love vintage linens and was happy to find this tablecloth in colors that I love. It was in great condition without any tears or glaring stains that many seem to have. It also came home with me along with a few old red and white crocheted pot holders of which I have a small collection.
Before we headed home, we stopped in at Lowe's and browsed around. We were surprised that they didn't have more items out in the garden center yet. I know it's a bit early for many plants, but other gardening/yard items were a bit scarce, I thought. Inside, I did find a new floor lamp that I wanted. The photo above is not in my house, it's the front of the box. I hope it works out for the spot I have in mind for it, I haven't put it together yet. That's on the agenda today.
Also on my agenda today is catching up with blog reading. I miss blogging when I'm away for a few days and it takes a while to catch up, but I'll get there! Did you have a good weekend? And do you have anything special on your agenda for today?
Have a wonderful day!
Until next time...
I am so glad you had such a wonderful day!!! The bald eagle is outstanding, and you have really captured the sharp curved beak and the fierce look. My mother had a tablecloth very similar to this and I had forgotten about it till now. I would LOVE to walk around the artichoke mall!!!

ReplyDeleteLove that cross stitch.
Cheryl, since day trips throughout Missouri is my favorite thing to do, I really enjoyed reading about your day! The eagle sighting is spectacular! I'm going to keep my eyes open from now on! Artichoke Annies is MY favorite antique mall! We try to get up there on a regular basis. I have just never seen such an awesome antique mall anywhere else! We often stop and the Veranda and Midway when there's time. Glad you had a nice birthday. Have a nice week! Twyla
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I know how excited you were to see that eagle perched and posing just for you. It's a great picture! Elvis posed very nicely, too. What great finds at the shops! Love all of them. Hope that the lamp goes together tickety-boo!
ReplyDeletethat little cross-stitch is sweet - meant just for you.
ReplyDeleteand the eagle would have put me on cloud 9 all day!
I could feel your excitement on seeing that eagle. So majestic!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage table cloths too. You found a beauty! We were at Lowes the other day too and if you weren't looking for seed packets or pansies, you were out of luck!
Have a great week.
Ohhh, Happy late Birthday. Today is mine.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to see if my daughter will travel with me to Columia and try the diner and the antique place.

ReplyDeletePS-Thank you for recommending Artichoke Annie's. I will have to visit there next time we are up that way.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a very fun day trip! Getting a shot of that eagle would have made my day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday if I didn't wish you one last week.
I've never been able to photograph a bald eagle even with a zoom.

Lucky you! An eagle, 63 Diner (haven't been there in quite a while), and Artichoke Annie's. Sounds like a perfect celebration to me! Happy happy Birthday!! Love the pics in the previous post also - looking fabulous - then and now! -Tammy
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures, those ones of the birds, wow I sure wish we had more varieties around my house, I have finch and hummers, that seems to be about all, except for a couple times a year tons of parrots, then their gone...age does just slip upon you, sometimes I will pass a mirror and think, who the heck is that, am I even in there,,,,lol
ReplyDeleteWow, Elvis is loved everywhere.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job getting that picture of that bald eagle. Everytime I tell my Hubs to stop... whatever I was going to take a picture of leaves.
Hi Cheryl...I get the same way. I'm afraid the animal or bird will be gone before I get a good shot. I would probably faint if I saw a bald eagle.
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed your birthday, Cheryl, but I am so glad you had such a wonderful day. Love your finds. That tablecloth looks like it is in amazing condition and the spotting of a bald eagle is always very exciting.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
Hi Cheryl, Looks like you did have a very happy Birthday weekend. Love that cross-stitched number... Awesome. AND--what a colorful tablecloth... It would look really nice with red napkins or red dishes... NEAT!!!
ReplyDeleteI need to check the lamps at Lowe's --since that is one I'd love to have. The last couple of lamps we bought shine up to the ceiling instead of down on what you are reading (which I would rather have).
Congrats on a wonderful birthday.
Hugs,
Betsy
I loved this outing. I think we have a lot in common. I love to eat in the 60's diners. We had one in Spokane when we lived there. I also love antique shops. You found some great buys. The Bald Eagle sot was great. They are a rarity. We used to see them on poles when we took our boat down the Spokane River.
ReplyDeleteJust a great adventure I would say.
Blessings!
An eagle, just for your birthday, SWEET!! I would have wet my pants!! Weekends and weekdays are all the same around here, everyday is a fun day!!
ReplyDeleteAny day we see an eagle is a good day! Love the cross-stitch and the tablecloth is pretty.
ReplyDeleteIt has been so long since I blogged I don't think I will ever catch up.
LOVE that tablecloth. And the eagle is superb.
ReplyDeleteYou know when I went to Alaska and saw all the eagles there - I went wow here and wow there - I love them and think they are fantastic birds - in Alaska they are scavenger birds and not thought of that highly. Can you believe that? sandie
ReplyDeleteYou saw a bald eagle and got a photo, too? Well, that was a wonderful birthday present!
ReplyDeleteI adore your new crosstitch!
Susannah
I'd love to see a bald eagle in the wild one day! Your photo came out really well.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a fun weekend--i'd also love to shop around in those antique malls! Your picked up lovely things....and a serenade by Elvis, no less! Love it!
Cheryl, I could feel your excitement over spotting and capturing the Bald Eagle.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your Birthday- better late then never :)
Chery;
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy B'Day!
I love the photos you shared of yourself.
Does it seem to you that after 40 time begins to fly? It did for me.
Your day out looked like lots of fun and I do love the retro tablecloth you purchased-I have a few myself.
What a treat to spot the Eagle.
Nice shot you got of it!
