A Tree, Kitties, and Me

The days are going by much too fast for me, but then they seem to do that the older I get.  I'm slowly getting everything ready for Christmas.  Are you ready?

The trees were finished yesterday and there are a few things that will be tweaked as the days go by.  Things added and maybe a few eliminated too.  I'm finding that less is more this year.

I didn't put out my entire Santa and Snowmen collections, just a few were put on top of the entertainment center.  I need to find a new tree skirt to complete the tree.  The one I had last year was no where to be found.

I love Christmas music and have been enjoying listening to a few favorite CD's.  My sugar-free hot chocolate supply is about gone so that needs to be put on my shopping list.

My daughter has been busy decorating her house and has had a little audience as she works in the kitchen.  See the trio at the door?  They are part of a group of 5 kittens that were moved by their mother to her house in the spring.  The one in the background is Orphan, so named because her mother more or less abandoned her and she took up with the 5 kittens.

Uncle CT is still around helping take care of them although the kittens are nearly grown by now.  That is Uncle CT in the middle.  Lil Stormy is in front and Orphan is in the back.

I knew this would happen.  Kim fell in love with them all, but Lil Stormy wormed his way into her heart and was the first one she could pet after many weeks, maybe months, of coaxing.  I told her that Lil Stormy would be wanting to come into the house and she said no, not gonna happen.

Well, guess what?  How can you say no to that sweet little face?  I couldn't either.  We are both soft touches when it comes to our fur babies.  He comes in to visit when she's home in the evenings and weekends, but goes outside the rest of the time.

As for me, I am still coughing some but otherwise am doing better.  I had to go to the eye clinic Monday for another shot in my eye for macular degeneration.

That isn't much fun but the worst part is getting my eyes dilated and it's hard to see for quite awhile.  I managed to drive to the mall and stopped in at Barnes and Noble and the Cafe Court to wait until I could see better.  The selfie was just me goofing around.  I'd thought to take a pic of my sad looking eye, but it didn't turn out.

You might as well laugh at yourself and have fun when you can.  I  made the gal that took the eye x-rays laugh.  She told me to put my chin on the bar and I said, "which one?"  She then proceeded to talk about the joys of getting older and having everything start to sag, although I'm sure she was much younger than I am.  I didn't tell her that it only gets better, haha!

Then the doctor came in with the same old joke he tells me every time I see him.  Something about telling my husband that I needed to give up vacuuming, that it wasn't good for my health.  The man needs a new joke book for Christmas!

What are you asking Santa for Christmas?  Anything special?  We have told our children that we need to downsize and don't need a thing.  Really, we don't.  I realize more everyday that I need to stop accumulating stuff.  I love dishes for instance, but I have more than enough now.  Now books are maybe the one thing that I can't stop bringing home.  But I do donate many that I've read and won't read again.

I'll hope to visit soon!  Being under the weather for so long put me way behind on things.  I still need to finish my shopping and wrapping.  Maybe a trip to the Amish country will be made to purchase some of their delicious candies and breads.   All those yummy things that I'm not supposed to eat!

Happy Wednesday to you!
xo Cheryl

    1. Hi Margaret, thanks for visiting. It will be nice for you to have your family visiting for the holidays! I used to be organized too, but lately not so much. I think I've gotten lazy.

    1. You're welcome, Sandra! I love furry friends and this group of kitties have the sweetest faces. It's hard not to take them all in the house! The shot isn't so bad if they put enough numbing drops in. One time they didn't and it was a big ouch!

  3. Laughing at your daughter being won over by the cat. You name them they are yours and they really know how to work us.
Next time you see your doctor tell him "Can you write a prescription prohibiting vacuuming for me to show my husband?" Just be sure to say it first and maybe he will get the hint he needs to work on his material:))

    1. Great idea, Patti! I'm gonna ask him that next time. As often as I've been there, the joke is getting old! lol!

  4. Oh man, is that tree in your front yard or is from your Branson pics? Well, whoever put all of those lights on there so very precisely surely deserves an award...it's awesome! The kitties are just adorable and bless your girl for taking them all in. I have never gotten a shot in my eye (nor do I want one) but can certainly agree with you about that awful dilation process. One time a doc OD'd me on them and my vision we messed up for about 8-10 hours! I had to snicker when I read that you went into the Barnes & Noble 'til your eyes got back to normal...I can pretty much guess you weren't doing much reading! Take care and enjoy your holiday preparations!

    1. Hi Debby, the tree is in the yard of the DAR home in a nearby river town. The house itself is amazing, they have trees in every room and the ballroom on the third floor has several. They give tours every Christmas. You're right, I didn't read much. lol! B&N has a coffee shop and I spent some time there.

    1. Thank you, Terre! My eye stung a little yesterday, but it felt fine today. I just hope it helps, I have to have 2 more. My vision in that eye isn't as good as I'd like.

  6. I still need to get the groceries, but that's about it. My family is small so the celebrations are more low key. Hope you feel 100% before Christmas arrives.

    1. Thank you Ruth. It's just the 4 of us now and so our holidays are more low key than in past years when I'd have 15 or so relatives here. They're all gone now. But I'm blessed to have my little family to celebrate with.

  7. Hi Cheryl~

Oh, I just love those little fur baby faces, how could you not?!

I'm glad you are feeling better, but I am cringing at those shots! My mother used to get them, I always had to turn my head when she got the shot, for some reason it just made me queasy...I'm not usually that way. But, they were very beneficial for her, so they are worth it.

I feel the same way about Christmas. Less is more for us. My kids always go in on a gift, and we always love and appreciate it, but really don't need anything. My husband and I don't even give gifts to each other anymore, and it's fine with us. We really do just enjoy spending a fun, quiet Christmas day. We usually kind of splurge on something yummy for dinner and just relax...it works for us. I still have a little shopping to do, but nothing too serious. My daughter is coming over next week to make some candy, (she's really good at it), and I will make some cookies and a fruitcake tomorrow, done and done!

    Loved your photo...you are adorable!!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. Thank you, Barb. About Christmas, hubby and I don't exchange gifts anymore either. He never was much of a shopper. Lol! So I took the pressure off him and told him not to get me anything and I would't buy for him! If we want or need something, we'll get it and consider that our Christmas. I went shopping today and am worn out. That is hard work! Especially this time of year with the long lines. I've only got a couple more things to get. Hope to get the wrapping of what I have done tomorrow. Have fun making the candy and cookies!

  8. I like your Christmas header. Is this beautiful tree in YOUR yard? So, we are all cat lovers! It is so good to see you, I have not seen you in a long time. How often will you need the shots, and how long does your eye stay dilated? You can drive afterwards?

    1. Thanks, Ginny! The tree is in the yard of the DAR home in a nearby town. It's a beautiful red, white and blue. My camera just didn't do it justice. It's much prettier than it appears on the camera. I'll need to get 2 more shots in this series. My eyes stay dilated a few hours. I do drive, but not very far and then I'll just wait around until I can see better before driving home. I usually get a bite to eat in the Cafe Court and then go to Barnes and Noble and sit in their coffee shop. I look at books, but have a hard time reading anything.

  9. Such a warm fuzzy post, Cheryl, loved the trees, the kitties, and the selfie. I tried to take a selfie with my daughter while shopping the other day, and just haven't posted, I have tried everything I know to touch it up, to no avail. LOL
I will pray for continued healing! Thank you for visiting and for your sweet comment.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  12. I am glad that you are feeling some better. Those coughs can hang on quite a while, can't they? Yes, you might as well laugh. Those treatments for macular degeneration do not sounds like a picnic (!!!), but if you can recuperate at the mall, then I suppose you made out fairly well.

Oh my goodness. Those kitties at the back door melt my heart. Such sweet furry faces!

I think your plan for a "less is more" Christmas sounds just about right!

  13. OOO, just THINKING of a shot in the eye makes me want to run away....
glad you are feeling better. Tho I am not a cat person, these are all so pretty.
I didn't get all my decorations out this year...and what I don;t use this Christmas will to to grands that might want them and to a thrift shop somewhere. Like you, I am trying to get rid of things that have worn out their welcome.

  14. Hello, Glad you are feeling better... George has macular degeneration also --and has to have the shots in his eyes... BUT--he doesn't complain since his eyesight is NO worse... So scary thinking about losing your eyesight.

Hope you and the family have an awesome Christmas...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  15. It's beginning to look like Christmas at your home; I loved your lights. The fur babies are adorable. I can see why your daughter couldn't resist the one that is like Stormy. Very beautiful cats for sure. I would have them in my house except I am allergic to them.
I hate that you have to have the shots in your eye; you are so brave. I pray that they will help you. I have this problem in my genetics.
I am happy you are feeling better but I would still take it easy.
Sending Merry Christmas thoughts and hugs your way!
