Just Call It A Gallimaufry

I ran across a new-to-me word recently and it pretty much describes my post for today.  The word is gallimaufry.  I do read a lot but I have to say this word is one I hadn't yet encountered.

Dictionary dot com says that it means a hodgepodge; jumble; confused medley.  2, a ragout or hash.

Sound interesting yet?  Ha!  Well, this is my way of saying that this post is likely to be all over the place today.  A gallimaufry.  Or, if you prefer, a hodgepodge of stuff to share.

I'm driving myself nuts trying to decide on a color for the bathroom.  It will probably be ready for painting after tomorrow.

Here's another shot of the condo that has the color I want.  I called the condo Friday and they are supposed to look it up when they have time.  Hopefully, they'll get to it soon!  Meanwhile, my paint sample collection is growing.  I've gotten close to the shade I'm looking for, but the color looks different depending on the light.  Just like the walls look different according to what time of day it is or the kind of light in the room.

Help me, Rhonda.  I'm about to put all the colors in a hat and draw one out and say this is it!

In spite of some very chilly nights, most days have been nice and we have a few geraniums still blooming as well as some of our Knockout Roses.  We put away most of the flower pots over the weekend.  That is about all BG and I accomplished.  Mr. Grumpy Face is feeling puny with a cold and even stayed home from work today.  I call him grumpy because he is when he doesn't feel good.  I am the same way, I'm sure!

Our daughter and her fella have been busy getting the hardwood floors done at The Project.  This is another before shot showing the sanded area and then with one coat of polyurethane.  Most of the floors have now had 4 coats with some sanding in between.  The last coat will be put on the bedroom floors this evening.  They are looking great!

Let's get out of the house for a minute and away from all that paint pondering and sick men and enjoy the nice fall day.  Most of our leaves have fallen or have turned brown.  The tree above in the back yard is always the last one to lose it's leaves.  The tree in the first photo and next photo is at the other house aka The Project, so there are a few pretty trees left but they won't last much longer.

Did I mention that the carpenter worked all weekend?  Oh yeah.  Fun times around here.  lol!  There will be lots of work to do after he's finished.  Dust is everywhere from the sanding of the sheetrock even though he kept the door closed.  So, if I disappear for awhile from blogland, you know that I'm busy cleaning and painting.  We're about ready to begin painting at the other house, too.

Take care everyone and have a great week!  I'm going to the kitchen now and make some homemade chicken noodle soup for Grumpy Face BG.

xo Cheryl

  1. I think the bug has taken over Missouri! My parents have it and my husband and I both had it. I hear people hacking and coughing all over the building I work in too. As far as flowers, my knock out roses are covered in flowers, clematis has a few flowers on it as well as my geraniums. We've had an Indian summer but looks like this week and next will be much more seasonal.

  2. Cheryl, Choosing colors can be so agonizing. I like the way the condo color looks . Hope you get the right one. We are getting a mild rain this evening and some tomorrow...so right here the leaves will be finished. But I see trees in town that still are full. My mums have really faded out. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  3. When looking at the paint chips, you also have to keep in mind that they will be appear darker when on a bigger space. I know this and yet I still mess that up. Good luck in finding just what you want there.

  4. I enjoyed your gallimaufry post, and learning this new word, Cheryl! I'm not good at picking our paint from paint chips. It never comes out the way I imagined, but since you know you like the condo color I hope you can find out what paint and color was used there.
We've been having warmer than usual weather and there are still many trees like yours with bright yellow leaves against a bright blue sky. It is so pretty to look up at! WE may get snow this week, however, and then all the leaves will fall.
I hope your hubby is feeling better and you don't get sick. Take care!

  5. Oh, yes, paint swatches can drive you nuts. There's way too many choices. And what's worse is that they all look different once you get it up on the wall. I'm a proponent of buying those little sample cans that are sold by some paint brands and painting a spot on the wall to check it out. When I sold my house in Arizona and I was preparing to have all the wood trim painted I did just that and totally changed my mind on the color of the front door. For several days my front door had strips of color in a rainbow of hues and I'm sure the neighbors wondered what was going on!

  8. Finding just the right color is daunting . . .
We'll probably not quite that bad . . . but difficult. I think finding the right grey is soooo difficult . . .
    Loved the fall pics . . .
And progress seems to be happening all over your world . . . exciting!

  9. Choosing the right paint shade, is so difficult, usually causes a dispute, well, sharp words from my husband, as I can never make up my mind and then ask him which shade he likes, which is answered by , 'it won't make any difference, you will change your mind umpteen times before you decide' so good luck. Enjoy your time outside, and enjoy the autumn colours.

  10. Lots of fun stuff going on! I collect those paint cards and use them in some of my art work. Our falling leaves have indeed fallen almost ccompletely now, leaving the bare-boned, beautiiful trees. Rain - at last - has perked up our pond and creek. There is much beauty in the ordinary, isn't there?

  11. Wow, you do have a lot happening there. I hope you find your paint color. The floor looks beautiful. My hubby is a little grumpy when he is sick too. I am glad you got outside to see the leaves and breathe in some fresh air. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day!

  12. That is a new word for me too. In all my reading I have never seen it.

Good luck with the paint colors; choose lighter. That is all the advice I can give.

Hope the sickness is gone from your house by now.

  13. Go look at Miss Mustard Seed's post & I think you will find the color you want! I have "Paladin Blue" by Ben Moore in my living room & really like it. If I had it to do over, I might go a shade softer. Good luck! :)

  17. Gallimaufry.....a new word for me too! Colors are so hard to choose from.....I've picked colors before and when painted on the wall, the color seems to change. I know that whatever color you choose, it will be perfect for your bathroom. The floors are beautiful....all the hard work on them is paying off. Hope your "grumpy" man feels better soon.....sometimes, a good day of rest will do the trick. Have a wonderful day

  18. Sending 'get well' wishes to your husband. Feeling crummy is no fun!

My goodness... you have certainly got a job ahead of you.. just picking out a color from your color samples.
The floors look so nice, and I'll bet it feels so good to be getting closer to getting such a big project finished.

    Have a sweet day.

  19. I'm with you...just draw a paint chip out of a hat and be done with it! I did the exact same thing when I painted my living room a while back...I wound up buying the little sample jars of paint and still couldn't figure it out! And you know my red house? Well, when were just getting started, we knew right away it way it was WAY too close to burgundy so before we got it right, the front of the house had about 3 coats on it...lol! I'm sure it will lok awesome whatever you choose! Have a great rest of the week :)

  21. I love words and I have never heard of gallimaufry! I don't like messing with paint colors so I paint all the walls Kilim Beige... :) Any leaves that were on the trees blew far away last night. Whew, that was some wind. That condo looks familiar!

  22. Looks like the blue you like has some green in it. I don't know if that will help or not.
Beautiful colors on those trees. It's been getting down into the freezing temps here at night, so our leaves should start changing real soon. Good luck with everything.

  23. Oh, I hope that your hubby get's feeling better soon. I do love the blue colors you are looking at. Blue is my favorite color but I don't really have much of it in my home; strange I know. I so love hard wood floors and wish i had it my home. I can't imagine having too projects going on at the same time. Your fall pictures are beautiful. Hugs!
